5 tips for toxic people who want to change.

Are you toxic? Do you ruin your teammates gaming experience and your own because of your anger? Do you want to change your ways, become a productive member of the league community, but most importantly stop getting banned?!?!

If you answered yes to these questions, I have 5 surefire ways that can help you kick that toxic habit to the curb once and for all!

Toxicity can come from many things; troll teammates , maybe a bad day in your real life, maybe you just lost a promo series, whatever the reason may be, it almost always leaves you with the same result... Losses. Chat restrictions. Suspensions.

So without further ado, here are 5 tips to help toxic people from all divisions, change their ways! (Ok, 6.. but the last 2 pretty much go together! )

  1. Turn Off ALL CHAT !-** This one for some reason took me a long time to figure out. If you are playing ranked and you just want to focus on winning and ranking up , just turn it off! Honestly, there is nothing that your enemy could say, that you need to hear. It's all just distractions, and things to tilt you or throw you off your game. I'm pretty sure at least 50% of the reports you get punished from are due to the enemy team, and if they don't hear you talking, (and you aren't intentionally feeding) they're probably not going to report you.

  2. Talk trash... out loud!-** A friend helped me with this one. I used to have a problem with toxicity myself, and he would laugh at me when I got chat restricted. He'd say "bro, how do you always get in trouble.. I've had the same account since season 3 and I've never been chat restricted before O_o." So I played with him while using skype or curse chat or whatever the voice thing was... and this guy gets MAD! lol like really mad... he was swearing up a storm and getting really pissed (I even heard him punch his desk). I'm like Wtf? when I rage I'm not even that upset in real life, and it finally made sense! It doesn't matter how toxic you are in real life, cause nobody can tell XD .. I'm sorry this seemed like a long story, but the point is.. just yell , swear, get mad out loud, its a normal human thing when you're competitive, but leave it out of the chat!

  3. Calm down!-** If you are getting worked up, and you sense some rage coming ... go to your base, put on a nice chill song, close your eyes.. and take a long deep breath. Yeah it might make you a little behind, but trust me calming yourself down and afking for 30 seconds is going to be MUCH better than trying to play while still upset. Just keep in mind that it's only one game , even Faker loses games from time to time and it never stopped him from getting to challenger. Also maybe tell yourself that after this match you'll go eat or workout, something that gives you a break from the game (if you feel that you need it)

  4. MUTE- ** Don't be afraid to mute people! It's true, some people just want to ruin your day. Are they bad people? No not necessarily, but sometimes they are in a 'zone' where there is nothing you can say or do to them to change their mind... Soooo, mute them! Honestly it's pretty easy to tell when someone is not going to be a productive team member, therefore you really shouldn't feel bad about doing it. Oh, and from my experience; most of the toxic , annoying, rude people I've come across all want one thing... a reaction out of you. They fuel off you getting mad and they need you to respond to their comments... in fact a lot of the time if you just mute and ignore them , they'll start playing right and actually try to win!!

5a. Just don't talk at all- ** This is typically a last resort, final straw kind of thing, but if you really can't control yourself and the other strategies are not working .. just don't talk at all! Awesomely enough, it is entirely possible to communicate in this game by just pings, and you really don't have to say anything. You can press enter in game to get your chat box, then click the top of the chat box and drag it to the bottom corner of your screen so you can't see it anymore. I've had people tell me " I've tried that, but then I just drag it back out and continue being toxic." lol if that is the case then I think you need to decide if you really enjoy this game as much as you think you do.. cause it sounds to me like you want to be toxic more than you want to play the game!

5b. /mute all-** Also used as a last resort, there is the beautiful /mute all command. The command that will turn this chatty game into a silent one. I saved these choices for last because there is definitely an advantage having a communicating team that gets along as opposed to a completely silent one. I also think that it's better to try to enjoy the game how it is, instead of resorting to muting everyone and trying to keep your own mouth shut lol... but hey it's way better than getting banned so do whatever you gotta do!

There you have it! I realize that it was kind of long, but if you're serious about changing your ways, it should help dramatically... this is coming from someone who was in the same boat you were my friend.. toxicity can be changed!!

TLDR: (Too Long, Didn't Read)

  1. Turn off ALL CHAT.
  2. Talk trash in real life, out loud.. just not in chat.
  3. Calm down. Go to base, turn on a chill song, and take a long deep breath.
  4. Mute the people who are ruining your vibe. 5a. Just don't talk at all. 5b. type /mute all in chat and enjoy the silence.

Thanks for reading! If this helps at least one person, it was worth taking the time to write this. :^)

what if I want to be toxic just because I find it fun to rile people up? the game doesnt make me angry or anything and I have a good time playing with my premades/duos. But when I solo queue I just want to be able to make fun of people. this advice isn't very helpful

I know some people need it explained in steps like that, but the honest solution is to "grow the fuck up."

Simple truth, TILTING makes you lose games you could have otherwise won if you hadnt let your emotions become the focus of your time. Distracting others by trying to turn the chat into a salt mine helps no one and just ruins your gold per min, and overall contribution.

Going keyboard warrior, and getting toxic just lose you games that can still be won in a lot of cases. The number of times Iv been in games with some idiot crying about how the game is over that we ended up winning is in the several dozens every season, up to 1/4 of my matches some weeks.

#Tilting and raging do not win you games, grow up and stop doing it if you want to win a higher % of games, simple.

i dont rly know why but turning on any sort of music seems to slow my reaction speed, is it just me?

Wish I could AFK without punishment when enemies are farming us like minions but team trolls refuse to FF or anything similar.

Hi friend i think you missed out on an important thing : your tips (wich are really good) dont suite 90% of the siuations because when you have a troll guy that comes mid lane and feeds muting them or ignoring or hiding your chat or calming your self wont deny you from seeing him in yourr game and that's why poeple ragequit and im 100% sure people won't ragequit because of death or a player being toxic, they ragequit if there is a random guy that trolls in the game and thus you need to add this tip to your list : find friends to queue with them so its not solo queue with punks thnx for reading

ok. i want to stop ruining the expirience for my teammates with my anger, but i also want them to stop ruining my expirience with their feeding and making me lose the game. so why cant we have a comprimise? they dont feed i dont flame.

The real question is, do they want to change?

I've met toxicity over many years, even have some as friends I queue up with. Yet what I see is that they don't have any incentive to change. There probably are some that do, but from my experience they're quite rare.

As a reformed toxic player with a perma'd account under my belt, and my new account being clean I can 110% confirm what this dude is saying.

Kàyle8/12/2017, 6:58:19 PM1 votes

I reformed by /mute all, and changed the music to chillstep.

I used to be pretty toxic, to the point where I'd throw my mouse and smash my keyboard. After a few broken mice and keyboards and a ~20 game ranked losing streak, something just clicked which made me say "I don't care about this game anymore", so I uninstalled, took a nice 3 month break, well it was summer and I went for an overseas exchange, but still. One day, I felt like playing again, but it was because I was bored and wanted to have fun, not to grind ranked. I reinstalled and played ranked, lost like 3 in row, but somehow I just didn't care, even when teammates fed. Strange but true, I never tilt anymore. Must have been that nice long break.
