A change to make Yasuo less frustrating to play against?

xScarfy··16 votes·1,910 views

I think everybody has noticed now, that a lot of players just hate playing against Yasuo. I have to admit that I am one of them...his kit feels just overloaded to me. He got defensive power through his passive shield and windwall, offensive power through his short cds, his easy acess to 100% crit and the armor pen after his ult, situational good mobilty (near creeps) through his e and also hard cc through his Q3 and ult. I don't say he is OP, as he does requires some skill, but i I think he just offers too much powerwise, for himself and his team. So the change I thought of is to give his windwall a healthbar! So the projectiles hitting it would dmg it and after enough dmg destroy it! (I would suggest making the healthbar similar to a champion healthbar, not like the one Zyras plants or the Zz'Rot portals have, as 5 simple aa shouldn't be able to destroy it) It could scale with AD or AP or MS or just the level or idk...but I think it would be a fair change, as Yasuo could still dance around his windwall in a 1v1, since a single champ wouldnt be able to destroy the windwall before dying to Yasuo, but he shouldn't be able to block whole wombo combos. He got so much, than why does he also need the power to completly deny a mf-syndra-ult-combo or something like this? And of course he should be rewarded for placing a good windwall, but I think "only" blocking half of a wombo combo is still a fair reward. So what do you think? Could this be a fair change?

I think it'd be better if it worked more like Braum's wall in that it works in 1 direction. Kind of stupid he can just toss the windwall completely backwards and "Ooops, well I didn't want to hit that Arrow/Wave anyway." He shouldn't be given a free wall and if you want him to be skilled, then aim that wall correctly.

OurLestrade1 votes

This, so much. The amount of times a Yasuo's dicked around going back and forth through a wall so people can't hit him, or just stood IN IT and become invincible against ADCs for a few seconds is just wrong.

Spicy Rice2 votes

That moment where if he stands in the wall, he literally can't do shit

xScarfy3 votes

I have heard this suggestion a lot from other people...not sure about it, but it would definitly help to seperate the good from the bad Yasuo players.

Keevalroy1 votes

Or how about something other than a magical fart wall that stops practically everything? Why not something that actually makes sense and hits his core theme as a samurai and allow him to stop ONE projectile with his W by turning the wall into a sword drawing deflection like this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h9jrRTzlIY

He already does this on his own while walking, why not have something significantly less frustrating put into his kit that still matches his animations? It would also reinforce his gameplay pattern as a champion that relies on careful planning and timing, or so his fans say.

Edit: Added a bit for clarification.

It's not Yasuo. It's the current meta. Especially phantom dancer having 12% damage reduction. I can make you rage just as bad if not more with Yi. Phantom Dancer needs to be changed.

LatetotheRace3 votes

I second this. It gives far too much for just one item.

xScarfy2 votes

Yi was on my hate-list long before Yasuo :p But you're right, the current meta favoring Yasuo and his increasing popularity might be the problem here

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yi has a much more powerful lategame Yas. Assuming Yi is jgling, he only ganks post 6, while yas is strong early, slightly dips in power midgame, then becomes a hypercarry lategame.

Malignant Vemira1 votes

No, I can prove you wrong on that as well. Yi can EASLY gank at level 2-6 atm. Too many nerfs on other champs made Yasuo and Yi strong.

Troll for Trump2 votes

He can't gank at lvl 2-6 unless the opponent is both really low and overextended, at which point any jungler can gank. It's better to farm to 6 than to gank lvl 2-6 because:

the brush should be warded, you have no cc, and you're gapcloser is situational and shortranged.

He's easily counterganked

He needs to get core before a certain time period(20 min ish), doing this could put him significantly behind

It depends on laner and matchup, but Yi can be 1v2d(Darius,Illaoi, Garen, for example).

Basically same reason as WW. Ganking is high risk/investment with little payofg, and shouldn't be done unless necessary

Malignant Vemira1 votes

You are extremely miss informed. But I'm not going to argue. I don't have a 70% Yi win rate. Nope, I know shit about Yi. Mid Yi Top Yi Jungle Yi ADC Yi, not me...

Troll for Trump1 votes

Wait, you don't play yi and you call ME misinformed? Man, why are you talking like you're a master yi main?

Lol, 70%wr would be Hella hard. I almost got it before with Darius though :p

Troll for Trump1 votes

Really hard to tell that was sarcastic.

Yi still can't gank 1-5. Unless the opponent is really stupid. Doesn't work.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Red buff.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yeah, but it's still a bad gank.

I mean. Whoop de doo, he's walking at you so he can proc red. The opponent needs to be pretty overextended or bad to get caught like that.

Way better to farm for lv 6

xScarfy1 votes

He doesn't need to walk up to you, he got his Q as a gapcloser

Troll for Trump1 votes

He basically walks up to you. Q is pretty short ranged. Basically he walks up to the opponent. If the opponent has any mobility at all you won't catch him.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Or his laner engages first.

Teslium1 votes

For the first time after the removal of dodge, phantom dancer is bought on champions that are not ad carries. It is perfectly fine, and just because you lose to him, does not mean the item is to blame.

Malignant Vemira1 votes

I don't lose to Yasuo. Keep Assuming though.

Ackelope1 votes

Why post that video? You did decently well I suppose, but in the end, you did lose to Yasuo, because his team won the game... If you're referring to laning phase alone, I'm so proud that you managed to beat a semi-competent Yasuo with one of his counters.

If there's anything that someone did in that video, it was how well the ADC TF did.

Maybe your message was intended to be sarcastic or something, but if it is, that's the one of the weirder places I've seen sarcasm used in my life.

Malignant Vemira1 votes

That's just an example of Yasuo not being the problem. It's the other lanes losing. Yasuo is easily dealt with when and punished.

I can stomp Yasuo with any multitude if champions. Fiora is just my waifu.

The point I was trying to make was, I was stomping Yasuo so hard, It was 1v4 mid consistently.

Did the team capitalize?

Ackelope1 votes

I can agree that you the Yasuo was a non-factor in that game, but I think this was mostly due to his inefficient and honestly pretty crappy Yasuo play more than anything else. I wouldn't blame it so hard on your team; you fed your fair share of kills to the enemy team, due to what I'd assume was a bit of underestimating them or overestimating your power in any given situation.

Honestly my original reply to you was kinda stupid, my mood varies pretty easily and I guess I was more of an asshole at the time. The video you posted does a fine job of showing that you can dumpster a Yasuo.

Phantom Dancer is insanely strong, its the strongest Zeal item in the game right now. Not to mention the power of new Triforce and Frozen Mallet. All three of these items make Yasuo very strong, as they make Irelia, GP, Jax and Gnar strong as well. Yasuo was not considered strong until these items got strong, same for Irelia and Gnar (Mallet).

Teslium1 votes

Nerf mallet then. From what you mentioned, only Yasuo utilizes phantom dancer. All the others never buy it.

YumScrumptious961 votes

Yasuo buys Triforce and Mallet, in fact those are the reason his strongest build is named "Frozen Force", Triforce is still OP on Irelia and GP as well. PD is still the strongest zeal item, Trynd benefits from it, as does Lucian, an ADC using it instead of waveclear or range extension. All three are OP.

people always complained about yasuo as long as i've played this game for.

My suggestion was to have Wind Wall cost his flow gauge to use for a variable duration depending on how much was spent. Between 2 and 5 seconds (at max).

xScarfy2 votes

Thats sounds very good too! This way a Yasuo needs to decide between his shield or his windwall...although he could immidiatly gain his shield again by ulting, but nevertheless its a nice idea :D

Aptest3 votes

i just want one thing.

when yasuo casts his wind wall, there is a 0.5 sec timer before he can dash. when yasuo casts dash, there is a 0.5 sec timer before he can wind wall.

that way, you can CC him when he tries his "killer combo" (dash+WW -> Q/dash -> ult)

Papa Slothy1 votes

I feel like that might be a bit much as his shield was given to compensate his base stats, he might need a minor health buff

Arthimetes6 votes

Either that or they could make it to where Windwall costs Yasuo his full flow bar, it would even make sense thematically, he controlls wind to create a barrier around himself for protection and then projects that barrier into a wall.

I feel this would finally add counterplay to his BS wall and make it to where he can't just fling it out on a whim, he would have to think if he wanted his passive shield or the wall and would need to charge up flow in order to say "Nah i don't wanna take damage right now"

xScarfy2 votes

Yes, thats also a good idea! :) Its somewhat similar to the change they made to Janna one day, where her W (her slow) costed her the bonus MS she gained from it passivly, as a Janna main I was a bit sceptic, but i ended up liking this decisionmaking (slow the enemy or keep your bonus MS)

Malignant Vemira3 votes

And then they'd have to add power into his w as a passive, because, having two skills that have ridiculous requirements to even use is under powered as fuck. Knock up for R, Full flow for Shield OR Wall, yeah, that's worse than Kalista's and Kindred's nerfs combined.

Arthimetes1 votes

You're conveniently forgetting that Yasuo's W is one of the most powerful defensive abilities in the game that isn't an ultimate, ON AN ASSASSIN.

God forbid Yasuo would need any planning to use an ability that can completely cancel ultimates and make ADC's useless unless they want to have TERRIBLE positioning to get around his wall.

Malignant Vemira1 votes

Yeah,,, 50% damage reduction WITH % missing HP scaling Heal on 20 sec cd at level 3/4 not op...

Arthimetes1 votes

...what are you talking about?

EDIT: ofc, Yi. I'm dumb.

Anyways, Master Yi's heal also makes him completely unable to move and leaves him extremely vulnerable to cc, and actually has a resource cost, so no it isn't op.

YumScrumptious961 votes

He isn't an assassin, he's a fighter and nobody even builds him full damage anymore, you play Frozen Force or Bruiser Yasuo if you want to win.

Yes yes yes yes

Handy Sandy 3 votes

Or it only blocked a certain number of projectiles

R FLASH XD3 votes

I think Yasuo's windwall should only block the first or the first two projectiles that hit it.

(But hurr durr I'm silver so my opinion won't matter to most snobs)

xScarfy2 votes

The problem i see here is that it blocks projectiles, so even a single aa would destroy it (unlike for example sivirs spellshield, which only blocks the next spell)

bigambrus1 votes

Just to clarify some things, Sivir spellshield blocks all spells which hit her in that small timeframe her spellshield is active. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojr-EIOIytM

xScarfy1 votes

Yes, but what i meant is that an aa alone cant pop her spellshield, but most ranged aa are projectiles and could than destroy his windwall on their own.

Guy Fox Teemo2 votes

Windwall already has a 26 second cooldown, that does NOT go down till very late in the game since Yasuo doesn't tend to build CDR, and he maxes it last.

I get he's annoying and theres other things you can do ,but if you can't play around the 26 second CD of an ability, I think you might just need to practice a bit more. Since that is a very long window of opportunity that is easily baited half the time.

xScarfy1 votes

My thought was to go after the "give champs clear strenghts and weaknesses" policy, by weakning his defensive power (I dont say i am sure that this change is the right way to follow this policy, thats why i created this thread to get some opinions on it). What change would you suggest than (if any at all)?

I7A6X2v22 votes

I would remove his shield and give him an energy bar.

Futalicious2 votes

Take away one of Yasuo's passives. Boom, balanced. Either he gets a huge shield for free by moving or he gets double crit chance with 10% damage reduction. Why does he need both?
