Just Played Ahri
And she does like no damage. Any other mage would be a better option. I would recommend Brand, Vel'koz, or Viktor. Sleeper ops mid.

For those of you arguing about the mobility thing, yeah it's great but it's not worth losing all that damage.
You named 3 rather immobile mids. Immobile mages tend to do more damage than mobile mages as mobile mages use up some of their power budget in their mobility. It's a difference of playstyle.

It doesn't help that Brand, Vel'koz, and Victor are all Carries with extremely high levels of end game damage.
Aka Brand is the mage with the highest burst damage in the game.
I mean honestly I'd prefer a zippy mage who doesn't do as much damage but can stay in a fight longer. It feels more like an embodiment of her fox side playing her 'fast and cunning' instead of walking in and comboing a person 100-0. That and her new Q MS buff is going to make for some interesting Q repositions into a charm.
I can see your point in that regard, but at the same time she needs a lot more items to get going. And as long as the mage has good positioning that shouldn't be a problem. Her laning phase is also decently weak, it could be compared to Katarina, except she doesn't have the mobility Kat has. Ahri has the kit of an assassin, but no damage to back it up. I know riot was trying to make her more of a Kite based mage, but once again, every other mage and assassin do more damage than her at all stages of the game. My reason for playing ahri or wanting her on my team should not be that she can survive a bit longer bc she is fast. Oh and Brand's damage isn't the highest, that spot belongs to Viktor.
And as long as the mage has good positioning that shouldn't be a problem.
In a mobility meta I don't believe good positioning should be the end all be all statement that justifies Brand/Viktor/Vel'Koz as the perfect substitution for Ahri. Don't get me wrong I love my immobile mages. Syndra, Brand, and Malz are definitely my favorite to play, but this is a mobility meta. 'Good Positioning' can only do so much against a Leona ult, a Pantheon ult, a Sejuani, a Malphite, a Kassadin, a Vi, a Kha'zix, Rengo, Fizz. I mean I could keep going but at this point in the game a immobile mid can work but it's more than good positioning that it requires, it also needs a good team with a strong frontline who is willing to back you up with decent peel. On the other hand if you're on a team full of dashes you're gonna get left behind as your team engages from across the screen. In the right team I would much rather be Brand/Malz (and I really hate playing assassins so maybe that's why I'd have rather picked them over Ahri before), but I feel like Ahri brings something really unique to midlane.
Most of the time when you think of a movement speed spell doing damage it's either a movement ability that does AoE upon landing (Rocket Jump, Playful Trickster) or it's an ability that gives you movement speed on hit (Cass's Noxious Blast, Malph's Seismic Shard). Kalista's Q is the only movement ability that functions similarly to Ahri's Q (I believe) and Kalista can't change the projectile of her Q with her relocation. In lane it won't matter if Ahri doesn't do as much damage because having mana (and not wasting CDs) means she has a free escape even without her ult up. I personally found that while playing against Ahri she did decent poke with her Q. Just tossing it out into the team if she hit me with it, there was a decent chunk of HP missing. In fact I've found Ahri's on my team who have managed to decimate entire teams with their damage and there is no way a 12 second CD charm is what blew up my whole team.
Yes she lost a lot of damage and she can't assassinate people as good as she could before, but If you want a safe laner with good poke and good damage Ahri is a lot more reliable than Lux or Xerath (which were listed above), I'd argue she does more damage than Zilean whose damage falls off mid game (which was also listed above), she's definitely more mobile than Ziggs although he can be pretty safe with his satchel. Against champions like Morgana, Lux, Syndra who throw out some devastating CC she's going to be able to juke them really well and against assassins like Kat, Akali, and Zed she's going to be able to force herself away from them after being jumped on so that they can't unload their combo. She'll be a more niche pick (unless they buff her more) and maybe she won't be picked without a more carry like Supp or Top, but I feel like she'll definitely still have a unique place.
As for Viktor being the highest damage that's my bad. I didn't pay much attention to his damage output post his slight rework, but Brand was sitting there before that.
it could be compared to Katarina, except she doesn't have the mobility Kat has.
They are reworking Katarina so I would not be surprised if Kat moves over and gives Ahri more identity to make a niche out of.
My reason for playing ahri or wanting her on my team should not be that she can survive a bit longer bc she is fast
That's perfectly fine and I don't blame you for feeling that way. I feel like whenever a champion is release people always manage to find different parts of a champion they enjoy. For example Kalista might be enjoyed by some for her teamwork capabilities, by others for her mobility, even more for the stacking damage that allows her to win longer duels. Personally I'd enjoy playing Kalista for her vision control and I don't expect every Kali player feels the same. When a champion is reworked there are going to be some people who hate the changes because they lose their fantasy and others who enjoy it because Riot is embracing the aspects of a champion they enjoy. I expect people to dislike the new Ahri, and I also expect all of the boards to complain (because statistically people who feel strongly in a negative way to something are more likely to make their voices heard) about Ahri with very little happy 'Ahri mains' backing up the new direction. I don't think that changes my personal enjoyment in this new direction and I don't think it makes anybody's opinions less valid.
I respect this opinion. I just don't expect Ahri to be seen on the competitive seen for awhile.
Okay, and since ahri can now only be defined as a mage, im comparing her to mages. Basically what im trying to say is, I'd rather pick any other mage over ahri. And I love Ahri, don't get me wrong, she has an interesting kit, but she doesn't do as nearly as much damage as the other mages, and as far as mobility goes, the only mage she could be compared to is Azir, and his damage is waaay higher then hers at all stages of the game, Along with all the other mages.
Are you just looking at her numbers in a vaccum or are you running a comparison spreadsheet against realistic MR targets?

No, she's not "just" a Mage. She's a Mage Assasin. Rather than a Mage Carry like Brand who just melts whoever is convenient, Ahri can use her mobility to slip into and strike at key weak spots.
Do not define ahri as a mage assassin. An assassin is defined as someone who can quickly burst someone and get out. She has the mobility, but not the burst damage. Try playing her some more.

Ahri is a mage assassin
rather, she WAS, before the patch
Yes, she was, but now she isn't.
If you want to assassinate people, that's what Lichbane is for.
For everything that isn't single target damage, straight AP is still better.
interesting.
It's not a plug and play build. You can't just sub out the DFG for a Lichbane and expect to have the same results. It plays differently.
Even in 5.1, Lichbane could add up more damage than DFG. It's just not the safest item, it has an awkward build path and can feel a little all-in at times.
But if you mostly care about single target damage and dueling, it's your best bet.

Hmmmm. R -> WEQ -> R
Seems like a "Get in, burst, get out" play style to me!
you aren't gonna kill the adc if they have all of their health. Unless you are just that far ahead. Her combo now lacks so much damage. She has decent consistent damage, but no burst. Once again try playing her some more.

Well that's the idea. They want her to be a more spammy consistent mage. Not a "Farm untill I land my E then go in with DFG."
then what you said is invalid.
Not really. Now she just needs to repeat her burst in shorter more mobile intervals. Now she wants to go 100-70, 70-30, 30-0. She's not going to 100-0 someone. That's not a healthy play style. Just look at how mad people get when LeBlanc could reach that "I can QQEW you to death in a single combo and you can do nothing to stop me while you're silenced." stage. Not fun.
She no longer has her 20% damage amp on her charm and no dfg. She can't burst anyone anymore. She can just sustain and outpoke. That's it.

And is that a bad thing? It's a very unique niche.
well it goes against everything you said, and it defeats the purpose of having a mage on your team. Once again, any other mage would be a much better option than ahri, at this moment.
if I wanted poke i'd pick azir, xerath, jayce, ziggs, brand, karma, or vel koz. All of the above options.

And none of them have a free targeted triple dash.
it's not targeted. and it only has a point .3 ability power ratio. It does have great utility yes, but once again, you aren't proving your point. So she has more escape than they do? Okay? You still aren't telling me why anyone would pick ahri over a champion with a lot of burst and high damage potential? Are the 3 dashes supposed to make up for that?

Targeted as in she can aim it anywhere.

Correction, she deals three casts that damage up to 3 champions. A perfect ult would have a ratio of 2.7
Okay? You still aren't telling me why anyone would pick ahri over a champion with a lot of burst and high damage potential?
For the mobility.
Are the 3 dashes supposed to make up for that?
Yes. If you don't like it then you should go play a Carry like Brand, Veigar, Vel'Koz, or Victor.
I think you mean a .9 ratio? and she cant aim it anywhere. it prioritizes champions. If you are right by soraka and Quinn, you cant decide who gets the damage. The damage is decided by who you are closest to, and that is inaccurate in the first place bc you will seldom using all of your dashes to kill one target in a teamfight. Even in the laning phase, you usually only dash 1 or twice for the damage, and save the last for escape. Unless they buff the damage of her q and ulti, ahri isn't worth any serious mid laners time.
No, it's a 0.9 against ONE target. She can hit up to three. If you're not spreading her damage out in a team fight you're doing it wrong.
Sooo... dash into the middle of the enemy team like a front-line tank, solely to maximize your ult's damage? ... and use all 3 charges doing this? Not even Froggen plays this way and he's famous for building Ahri full-tank.
Your cardboard 7 is showing.

"Ahri doesn't do enough damage!" "Why not put in a bit of risk to take advantage of her AoE?" "F*** that shit!"

It appears common sense and proper decision-making are skills that you do not possess. Oh and maturity too.
I'm guessing your irl age is 10? Maybe 10 and a half?
{quoted} Yes. If you don't like it then you should go play a Carry like Brand, Veigar, Vel'Koz, or Victor.
Well that's kinda the point. "Ahri isn't good, so we have to play other champs".
You're going on about how she has all these niches over other champions but you're not saying why said niche makes her worth using. Unless for some reason your team comp desperately needs a mid laner who doesn't fear ganks, Ahri has no reason to be picked because her damage is ignorable.

Safety from ganks lets the jungler put more pressure in bottom while Ahri roams top.
Once lane is over she can safely split push or quickly gank a squishy trying to farm on their own.
When they try to stop her she can rush back mid and use Charm to force a lopsided team fight even if they're hiding under tower.
Don't think of Ahri in terms of 5v5. Think of her as kiting and distracting a 1v23. Or ambushing the other team in mid to force a 54v3 in her favor.
And is that a bad thing? It's a very unique niche.
A "unique niche" that happens to be shared by: Xerath, Lux, Ziggs, Zilean, etcetera
Do you know what the word "unique" means? I'd suggest reading a dictionary.
I would love to try the changes myself, but unfortunately the patch brought even worse ping spikes than 4.21 did
not even a 1v1 custom AI test match is playable
It's not the patch. It's your ISP.
Don't expect to be playing League of Legends if your ISP is Verizon, Comcast or any other ISP known for throttling.

no, it's something on Riot's end. I've been playing for over a year and a half now and have had no issues whatsoever until around patch 4.21, and even now I ONLY have trouble with League of Legends. nothing else gives me an issues at all

patch day always lags.
more people play, riot doesnt increase server volume to compensate. servers get bogged down with extra players. next day fewer people play, servers slightly better. week later all the patch only people are gone again and the servers are fine again.

one can only hope, but I won't be holding my breath
I guess on the bright side I'm going on a week-long vacation tomorrow so maybe(?) when I get back things will be better...
Your ISP is throttling League of Legends and other games you might not play (i.e.: Final Fantasy XIV).
The vast majority of the playerbase has no issues.

Comcast. I do play Final Fantasy XIV, on a European server no less, and I have absolutely no trouble with it whatsoever
World of Warcraft never gave me issues either
Steam doesn't give me issues
Team Fortress 2 doesn't give me issues
Smite never gave me issues (though admittedly I haven't played it in some time)

Comcast is not throttling your internet connection. They would have been sued by now if they were. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_neutrality_in_the_United_States
You're the victim of poor server infrastructure, overloaded infrastructure, and long distance connections (amongst other things). The internets getting better slowly over time, but until companies like Comcast have net neutrality removed they can't really afford to improve connections for gamers like us because they can't charge us for it.
It's funny because many people are in support of net neutrality without realizing the implication that it removes your choice to spend money for a better connection.

Pretty much, yes. The low quality you get is due to cost and extremely restrictive laws.
until companies like Comcast have net neutrality removed they can't really afford to improve connections for gamers like us because they can't charge us for it.
Bullshit. They haven't improved connections because they are evil money-grubbing assholes, same as every other cable/phone/internet company. They milk every existing copper wire for every dime they can get, and will continue to do so because they are getting away with it.
There are no EU servers for FFXIV, non-JP Datacenters are in Montreal.
Most Verizon and many Comcast users have to use a VPN just to play it.
Most of the complaints I see have to deal with her damage. What makes you guys think they can't add in more later on if she turns out to be underwhelming?
