@Riot Soraka.....

Now to start things off i have played soraka since season 2 but really started to main her in mid to late season 3.For most of my time picking her people would insult her and call her a "worthless pick" or they would dodge but i kept strong becuase i know they were wrong. How do i see soraka?I see her as the best example of a true "Support Carry" Her heals are game changing letting her contribute to winning in a way that isn't damage her Ult is extremely good for saving people with clutch heals and overall makes me feel like a merciful god that grants salvation with a single blink of an eye.Of course the second i get behind or my team can't protect me im worthless. Soraka's Strengths: Sustain - she can save someone who would normally die with another support Helps forgive mistakes - Her sustain lets her forgive he adc's mistakes such as her vayne not being able to dodge skill shots on a pro level Silence - her silence potentially is even more game changing then her heals as one good silence can stop a whole team global ult - like Shen she can save an ally and not just one she takes it further and helps her whole team Soraka's Weakness: Squishy beyond belief - no one seems to take notice of it and think she is like some untouchable thing but she really is squishy Her heals cost health and mana - she is extremely squishy but now on top of it she needs to save her limited health pool to heal meaning she almost kills herself in a team fight where everyone is being damaged She has no way to heal herself safely out of ult - like the weakness says she genuinely cannot safely be healed without ult or committing more than half her build slots for health items and warmogs her ult will not always help - her ult is not a sure way for a teammate to live as unless his opponent is running away or lower health your ally is still most likely to die Lacks damage - soraka's damage is abysmal and for good reasons but this means she is not able to help poke her targets down for her ADC or be able to help peel for late game Lacks reliable CC - soraka's kit may have a slow a silence and a root but the way they are implemented make them unreliable without the stupidity of the enemy or the set up CC of another teammate her slow is weak and slow to hit easy to dodge her silence is "instant" but you can walk out of it plus if you were already flashing or dashing it won't stop you her root only takes effect once you have stayed in the silence field that you can walk out of

What does riot want from soraka? As far as i can tell from her last rework is they want soraka to be a high risk high reward "carry" support. What did they do? they made her heal cost health and removed the bonus armor and magic resist it gave but they made the cooldown very short letting her heal extremely effectively. They removed her mana she could give but gave her a silence field and a root not bad the setup can be made by the CC from a mid lane mage like Anivia Annie Veigar but she still needs to time it because even with follow up cc they might just still walk out.Riot gutted her health regen and removed the magic resist shred on her Q and turned it into a slow moving AOE Skillshot....well at least landing it lets you heal negating the regen nerfs.Let's not just dance around the subject Riot gave her heal a health cost not just as an excuse to make the cooldown short but they did this to force her NOT to build tank.Which is fine since she is supposed to be high risk and you can't be high risk while being a tank BUT This latest nerf (i will never says it's a change this was a flat out nerf that should have never gotten through and just calling it a change minimizes the gravity of how bad this is)She now doesn't get a flat healing to herself for hitting targets now she gets a small heal over time and a small negligible speed buff moving away from enemy champions...Let that sink in.....Without her flat healing she won't survive late game in a game where burst damage is the most used way of damaging a heal over time is nothing!!!Did you guys not think this through??!?! my god im so mad i've got a headache. You want to encorage players to play her high risk squishy mage support but ruin her only way to be viable as a mage while buffing her tank build line by reducing the health cost.Seriously what the actual fuck riot this is a champion people enjoy and you just crippled her almost worse then Kassadin Swain Karthus Cassiopeia and all this started becuase of the fuckin LCS maybe some nerfs were justified but not this one...not at all..... Now my solution Revert this change gut her base healing and damage of all her spells increase the scalings to all of them and increase the slow per level of her Q and make her silence field reduce the damage she and her allies take in it so she has another way to contribute to her team reduce her range on the silence but increase the AOE it has and maybe let it stop dashes.Make her base health bad but make her health per level one of her best assets. That's really all i had to say please riot Soraka deserves better we already have a limited pool of supports to work with without losing her.Just one last thing Riot ill never Stop playing soraka!!! you can nerf her all you want but ill never stop she is like the goddess of fortune for me!Praise the stars!

Most TL;DR post ive seen in a while

But if you want to talk raka I'm down. Loving the latest changes, I was maxing q first before but then stopped playing her when the made her q range so stupid low. Now that the slow is guaranteed and you get a nice little move speed boost to back off with and the slow and damage get pretty decent as the game goes on.

I think people who just want to heal bot are still gonna do it tho, just less effectively. The incentive to go in just isn't there. Rito has their head in the wrong place on this one. Dont make it so people HAVE to get close to the enemy make it so they WANT to get in there. I've always thought that maybe if you q someone on your silence they should get insta-rooted by it. That would certainly encourage people to occasionally go in a bit more.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

true the movement speed is a nice little touch but now ill just lose trades for the sake of healing back the health i used plus team fights are now almost unplayable as a squishy mage unless i go tank** which riot doesn't want her to be ** and the more her tank build rises up the more nerfs riot will put on her XD

Actually, I'm finding this patch's Soraka changes to be a HUGE buff, not a nerf. She's now back to being a lane bully and skirmisher like she was before the support class rework.

If you're having trouble, max Q instead of W for as long as the laning phase lasts. Then consider whether you can hit Qs during fights without dying (depends on both enemy and YOUR team comps), and if not, switch to W before finishing Q. Also, don't buy Warmogs or other pure tank items like some Sorakas used to; you need the AP support items like Banner to keep your heal and sustain strong.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

her Q heals her for less then before it doesn't stack either and its still very slow sure it may work against more immobile match ups but against this current meta its almost a miracle to land it for a reward that's so small i mean yes i can increase the self heal by leveling Q up first but in fast paced team fights its just not going to cut it plus i haven't found it helpful in lane phase since being poked using the Q is a big problem especially against blitz thresh who thrive on people making themselves targets. Also i need to heal my teammate more than myself.

IICrowII1 votes

What you describe isn't my experience. I find in most matchups I can land Q more easily than the opposing support can land their skills (starcall isn't blocked by minions, and hits a much wider area than most skillshots. This is especially useful against hook champions, who I have never lost against as new raka), and the 50% slow + the retreating movespeed bonus makes it really hard for them to trade back effectively. If you're unable to hit Q because they're running away, try not to make it too obvious when you're going to use it - if they're always running away when your Q is off cooldown, they're not getting CS, so they have to go in at some point.

Landing Q during teamfights is easier now than it was before for the same reason - they have to commit hard engage to actually get on Soraka now that she's a kiting machine, so it's safer to get in range. That said, against teams that are particularly good agianst kiters, she IS weaker because being an extreme-back-line heal potion is worse than it was before. So, just don't pick Soraka in those cases!

Soraka's fine.

Sincerely, the best Soraka player in the world.

your build path as soraka is interesting. How do you survie team fights late game with the new changes do you wait it out? or do you stay in and just pray that no one singles you out and dodge what you can? i won some games with the changes but that was early game before the team fights started.

I've yet to play new soraka, but this change definately forces a different playstyle from her and her team than a patch ago. As the League's premier healer, on paper she looks anything but the best healer choice. I would guess it's close to the point where Sona is the best healer option. That is untill we see what Taric offers.

She still feels fairly similar to me. The HoT just makes me hang back a bit. Being able to pass that HoT along to someone also makes me rather interested as that HoT can make a difference.

Assertive vs Passive heals. The difference in our last game was almost negligible. I healed people that needed heals, I got health back and I was able to help my adc and team get through what they shouldn't have. She is nowhere near gutted. Go ask Adrian if he'll still main her and janna. Bet we'll still see it picked.

I mained Soraka for season 5 (first season) and didn’t get to play the old Soraka. I enjoyed her thoroughly as she fit my playstyle perfectly. Got gold III in a breeze! Like you said, people conplained and begged me to pick something else, but I went with it anyway and built up a 65% winrate with her last season.

Then she became popular and boy did that change the name of the game... She ravages low-tiers with ease since they can't work around her, so Riot decided to make changes, first to her mana and then to her kit (again).

They haven't nerfed Yi nor Katarina yet though, whom also wins epicly in low tiers. Good griefs, I had plans of making it to diamond with her this season but alas that seems impossible now. Like you said, over-time healing won't help against burst (which was already effective against her).

That being said, I haven't had the opportunity to play her just yet. And quite frankly I'm scared to try, as she might have changed too much for me to handle.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

for me playing with this update was hard because i was so used to the instant health so many points early game i could have lived but the heal over time is really slow and the heal is pretty small i dont know about you but i played her squishy ap mage like so im used to late game being full health with one Q hitting the whole team now the second im low its almost impossible to heal myself they basically removed her self heal as far as late game concerns anyone

SeekerofSilence1 votes

I played her today and honestly... I don't feel much of a difference. I thought something bugged out for a second because she felt like the exact same champion (except minion heal rip) as before the patch was launched. I honestly think she only got cooler... Haha!

So yeah, I'm content. She isn't that amazing late any more but I feel like the ult (more heal? Felt like it at least) will be enough to bring her through late as well.

Riot doesn't revert nerfs.

Now then, in order to deal with this new kit for Soraka, the best item is definitely Zz'rot.

You gain a huge boost to your regen, you gain armor and MR without increasing health costs, and you gain MS that you can stack with your passive and the MS from Q to make you really fast.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

that sounds interesting i think i'll try that

As a main of Soraka since 2010, before season 1 started, and every season after, I've mained her. I've been through every ups and downs for her, seen her high and worst moments. I like the changes she's received, but the numbers and rewards are too low at the moment. Her self-sustain has been gutted. It's fine in lane, but once lane phase ends, it becomes a stressful struggle to stay alive while doing your job as a healer. I'll admit I've never once been so stressed playing Soraka, and it's a ridiculous feeling when you're trying to stay alive through your current sustain.

I'm totally fine with it being a hot, but I'm not okay with it only proccing once, regardless of how many champions have been struck with Starcall. One champion should activate Rejuvenate, with hitting 4 other champions amplifying it by 20%, for a total of 100%, doubling the hot. It gets ridiculous when mid and late game hit, and you have 1500-2000 health and you're only receiving roughly 5-8% of your health back over 4 seconds while constantly sacrificing 10% of your health to heal allies. Your heals are mediocre too, unless you have Starcall active, which is currently a huge risk to take, with little rewards. The impact size is small, the travel speed is slow, and you don't get rewarded for hitting multiple champions.

I'm still going to main Soraka, even if her self-sustain has been gutted. I hope Riot reads this, however, especially ricklessabandon. The changes are nice, but the numbers and rewards are far too low to make these changes totally appreciative. Please give Soraka help! :(

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

just so you know the heal cost 5% now but yah i made a post about that its unfair that ou hit so many with a slow ass skill shot but get the same reward

Krys Star1 votes

Astral Infusion still costs 10% of her health. o_O

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

reducing the cost to 5% was part of the small trade she got for the nerf

Krys Star1 votes

They must've not updated the tooltip or documented it in the patch notes, then. It still says 10% on the wiki, in-game, champion information, etc. :o

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

no never mind i checked i guess they removed that compensation buff

I only want to see if my build still works with this new iteration of Soraka. If it still works, I'm good.

An item that works great on her now is liandrys to give her poke some real damage due to the slow. When i played her i chose to go with item 3092 item 1310 item 3050 item 3151 item 2049 item 3174. With this setup i was able to 1v1 an enemy kassadin using kitting and my silences. I think the endgame score was 9/5/18.

I like the new changes for the most part. The HoT is a unique interesting idea and I think the scaling is strong but the duration should be shortened so the healing happens more quickly.

What has really devastated me about this patch is that Soraka's Q is unable to proc multiple times if it hits many targets, which has made her ability to hang out on the field very weak. Additionally, the healing is no longer increased if she is low on health, another defining feature of Soraka. Fixing either one of these two issues would in my mind resolve the current issues with her to some extent.

Baby Ghoul1 votes

I'm on the fence about the balance changes they made to her. I like some of them, but I noticed it's significantly harder early game.

I kind of wish they would allow supports to scale with the rest of the team already. I feel like that would fix so many problems.

Apotos1 votes

People you need to accept the fact that Soraka had to be changed. With her previous kit it would have been impossible to balance her in the current meta. Right now we have items that increase the healing power, we have ardent, mikaels, redemption and the mastery Windspeakers Blessing (just image the old Soraka with these things). And if you have enough experience you would have come out with a perfect build for Soraka instead of complaning to riot for balancing her. If I tell you that in season 7 and preason 6 I could heal up to 1000hp with one Astral Infusion in late game you won't believe me. I totally understand. But this is because I have been maining her for years and from all the experience that I had gained I have come out with the perfect build for Soraka. It is just harder to Soraka now. Learn to play with her(and I mean not just sitting next to your adc, pressing W, but also use Q(and learn how to aim it). Soraka is different now. In order to dominate on your lane you need to use heal after you have acquired Rejuvenation (the buff from Q) so that you can restore your hp from casting W and apply the buff on your ally.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

well im surprised its been over a year and this still gets a response...My main reason for being upset is the undate left her in a state thats even worse and forces the cancerous Tank build though now that we have some support items shes going to have to get it semi reduces her tankyness. Her Kit is boring as all hell and has almost no counter play she might as well be the healing version of janna.

Leaf on Bush1 votes

Sorakas abilities are still pretty strong and you can hit easily if you play reactive. Enemies who walk towards your team are so easy to hit. If 2 melees beat each other...extremely easy. The point you make about walking out of E is bullshit, you can always use your Q to slow them and make it hard for them to walk out or you can just chain with allied cc.

So much about her offensive spells, now about the heals, they are ( lets be honest here ) pretty fucking OP if the enemy team does not have grievous wound. and on the flipside they are underwhelming when they use grievous wound to the point that any shield or tank support would be more valuable. This is a huge problem. Executioners Calling is not a balanced item and 40% reduction in general is too high and has no counterplay.

We have situational items that work on certain percentages like ninja tabi, randuins.... but 40% is just completely off the charts. It's like bannng soraka in champ select except that you only need to pay 800 gold ingame. Every idiot could do this.

item 3504 item 3222 item 3107 + windspeaker dont give enough heal boost to counter grievous wound.

3 complete items + keystone cant beat an 800 gold item.

Sorakas heals are too strong and should just be nerfed, but this binary joke of an item needs to go along with a percentage nerf for morello.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

my problem with the update is that soraka got changed it left her in a worse state where she either is too strong or worthless.Might as well have never done the update in the first place...He kit is still bad.
