  • Champion : Taliyah

  • Discussion : Seismic Shove (W) Changes In Patch 6.14

  • Asking For : A hot fix / retrograde of Taliyah's Seismic Shove (W) back to it's original (Pre 6.14 Patch Release).

  • Your Help : Please up vote this thread for recognition to Riot. In addition, constructive and well thought out posts from others would be a great help in assisting to make this happen. Weather you are for the change or against it, all perspectives count in our steps forward.

  • What Were Talking About

" We like steep skill curves, but Taliyah’s mechanics can present more of a burden than a challenge. In particular, Seismic Shove’s spell lockout and two-cast paradigm can leave Taliyah’s stone-weaving feeling straight-up unresponsive. " - Riot, Patch 6.14 Patch Notes " Let’s be clear on one thing: removing this lockout is really powerful (like, Taliyah’s probably crazy as a result). Having witnessed some of the resulting shenanigans during testing, we’re taking pre-emptive measures to soften the best-case of her now much-more-reliable ‘Seismic Shove + Unraveled Earth’ combo. Things might be rocky for a while, but we’re confident that smoother Stoneweaver gameplay paves the road for a balanced Taliyah in the long-term " - Riot, Patch 6.14 Patch Notes

  • The Change

" W - Seismic Shove COOLDOWN 16/14/12/10/8 seconds ⇒ 16/15/14/13/12 seconds CAST PARADIGM Cast to place, recast to direct ⇒ Vector casting (ex. Rumble’s R - The Equalizer) REMOVEDLOCKOUT Taliyah is no longer locked out of casting other spells for 0.55 seconds after casting Seismic Shove " - As Listed In 6.14 Patch Notes

  • The Issue

Taliyah is a champion with a very high learning curve. For many of the Taliyah mains, myself included, we found Taliyah to be extremely difficult at first in making her a worthwhile pick in the competitive ranked queue. It took many games to learn her combos, strengths, weaknesses, build paths, and landing a crucial Seismic Shove (W) when we needed it most. She is a champion that is easy to learn and yet, extremely difficult to master. Many of us feel that we were blindsided by this change, even after speaking out against the change prior to Patch 6.14 being released on July 13. We understand that Riots developers believe that the change has helped more than hurt and that the lockout being taken away is a blessing. However, we would effectively argue that point in many ways.

  • The Argument

Taliyah is a control Mage. It's not a stretch to say that players who main this champion are not Master Yi converters that are looking to just Alpha Strike over and over on whatever is in front of us. Taliyah is played methodically, precisely, and with excellent position and timing. We understand that a 0.55 second lockout is a burden. However, we accept that and adjust our play style accordingly. With the original cast of the Seismic Shove (W) we can methodically place this knock-up in the direction that best suits the situation.

With the 6.14 change, nothing about the knock-up feels methodical or precise, both in timing and in the way it works. It feels extremely clunky in the way that it is cast. Where as before, it felt fluid. We all accept the fact that it's only been one day since the release of this change, however; We do wish that Riot would have accepted before the change that what is not broken does not need to be fixed. As Taliyah mains, we understand you think your doing us a service but this does not feel like any of the sort.

In addition to these changes, you have now asked us to accept damage reduction (nerfs) with the changes to Seismic Shove (W). We feel it's unfair to accept the nerfs of Taliyah based on a change that we already disapprove of. I would gladly take the 0.55 seconds of lockout time than to lose damage.

  • Conclusion

If a Riot Developer could explain in a post to the community about why these changes are okay and should be accepted, many of us would be pleased to hear it. We believe that Taliyah as a champion and in the way her kit was designed was excellent on release. Many of us praised you for the work in which you put into her. All we ask now is for the champion that many of us have come to love, not be mechanically changed in what feels for all the wrong reasons. Thank you for allowing the masses to address you publicly through the forums on this change and I sincerely hope you take the time to read, observe, and take into consideration the thoughts in which we have laid out for you in this post.

This looks like a fairly good arguement..... seeing as the times I have played Taliyah have been fun, albeit challenging to hit the W at times, mostly because of her fluidity. Ill have to play Taliyah to actually get the feel for her W for myself after the rework, but my imagination is decent enough to picture Viktor's Death Ray kinda shooting on a circle knock.... that .55 seconds really wasnt anything all that horrible. It adds another layer of..... well, graceful skill using. You always can tell who is a Taliyah main and who is not because they for sure have the fluidity of movements and skill useage. Its like Nami for me, she is just so fluid with movements and it just sets my mind at ease playing her. For some reason I am doubting that, even if the Taliyah W is "easier to hit", I would enjoy playing her with her if her spell casts were not as fluid as before.

Okay, that's at least 2 petitions to return her W, both of which made it to the front page. You would think someone from Riot would at least comment on this by now, if not agree to hotfix it.

implying Riot likes to admit they failed disgustingly badly

I mean, even if they have no intention of changing it, normally they would at least have someone say something along the lines of:

"Hey (insert summoner name here), we decided that it would be best for the game if we don't revert the change cause (blah blah blah game health blah blah blah balance blah blah blah clarity/readability). We do appreciate how you feel about this, but we feel this will work out best."

followed by a giant wave of downvotes.

And yet, Zenon did admit he was wrong. That's big.

To be fair they created it the way we all like it to begin with. A lot of people complained and suggested vector casting and Riot listened to the community. They didn't fail disgustingly bad, they just listened to us. But I do wish they would change it back.

Honestly i never noticed anything slow or sluggish about the e-w combo since i can throw it out so fast the "lock" is negligible because it's over so soon, now i'm forced to do the combo less often, the other way around, and for less damage, and she's getting another nerf next patch, great fucking job riot.

Vector casting on a small size abilities is stupid. Vector casting on a champion who need to move all the time is stupid. Vector casting on a spell who need accurate while your are moving is stupid. The double click was good. YOu just had to make the cast time faster cos W was easy to dodge in lane :)

Ill go even further and say id rather have the double click cast on viktor and rumble, it was innovative, precise, and it never went in the wrong place or the wrong direction. Just give us the option to choose please riot and watch the double click taliyahs annihilate the vector castors in w hit rates and overall winrates.

The thing is, Two-Step Casting wouldn't work for Viktor and Rumble because they're instantaneous, line-based skillshots. Implementing a delay that allows another step to choose a direction would make them VERY clunky and lose a large portion of their playerbase.

I don't even have to play Viktor or Rumble and I know the pros and cons of their skills lol. I guess people just don't get it.

I'm not saying that they should change their abilities that people spent a lot of time learning. Vector casting absolutely makes more sense on those champs, i just happen to really like the double cast method of aiming an ability, which coincidentally makes a lot more sense on taliyah than vector casting.

Gee. I wonder why.

I regularly play with another Taliyah main (Level 7, 200k+ mastery) and they feel the exact same why. Riot please listen!

I am a level 7 Viktor main, have been playing him from S3. I love his vector casting, but I believe it does not fit Taliyah. I added her to my relatively small list of favourite mages and have played her a decent number of times when she got released.

Vector casting intuitively tells the player that he's drawing something. Taliyah's W is not that. Her W is a tool to push and throw an enemy and the double-cast made sense and it felt good. The only issue I had with that is the lockout. Vector cast now forces her to always move the opponents, with no option to just disrupt them and keep them in place as an initiation tool for teamfights. She effectively lost one of the things she could do.

"From here" - first cast, "to here" - second cast. The double-cast made sense.

Another thing: vector-cast is actually more suited for burst mages (something Viktor** was**; he got pushed more into dps category with the artificially-introduced delay after the laser in the MYMU. But the laser itself is instant). Taliyah was intended to be a Control mage - with the vector cast, she's been pushed towards the burst mage category and because of that, nerfed. This goes against what she was meant to be.

I would love if her W was returned to the double-cast paradigm, just without the lockout. Vector cast can be given to some other champion in the future, I'm certain of it.

This has already been specified to the community. Unfortunately, most deem this "invalid" and "not relevant" to Taliyah and her playerbase. I don't know at this point lol. I completely agree with what you say, but it's hard to convince people who don't know what they're dealing with.

HOBO 90002 votes

I for one totally agree with you. It makes her w confusing to use and very inaccurate, which baffles me because the main goal was the make her easier to pick up. I'm not sure how this change affects players who hadn't played her before, but as a player who has champion level 7 mastery with Taliyah, vector casting w makes 0 sense.

It's funny how everyone wanted Taliyah vector casting on the W now everyone hates it.

It's funny how everyone wanted Taliyah vector casting on the W now everyone hates it.

Most people liked the sound of it and some didn't care for it as we all expected Riot to put some effort into this. I was one of the people who liked the sound of it and trusted the community to have half a brain and at least 5 games worth of experience with Taliyah to know what they're dealing with.

Now people are thinking we're crying for help just for the sake of being able to cry. Most people don't get it because: a) They hate Taliyah and want her to remain weak and underplayed. b) They don't play Taliyah and don't know about her issues. c) They think the change is working as intended. d) All of the above.

Astôlfo7 votes

Except you are entirely wrong. Pretty much only the people who never or rarely played her wanted it. The mains/experienced players said lolfuckno. But of course apparently the first group of players gets to have an opinion at all? And Riot thought it was more intelligent to listen to them.
