Maybe the next big change will help the minority of NA players instead of the majority. Sorry you guys got the short stick this time.

Angry Monster2 votes

the problem is anyone west of the rockies is getting screwed, not just the super far west locations.

redniwediS4 votes

That is still the minority of players, and they are not getting screwed. I have 80-100 ping right now, and have had no problems playing the game with it.

Most people are just overreacting because they are used to having ping 7-8 times lower than people right on the edge of the east coast are getting. They will do just fine with pings 3-4 times higher than they have now.

Alljoy2 votes

What do you do when you already have 300 ping, play at 400?

redniwediS1 votes

Yes. I really don't know what else to say, as I've already made all the points I can really make on this.

Riot is improving the experience of the majority of players on this server. It sucks for anyone who is not part of the majority, but pretty much everything works off of a majority rules system anyway.

Alljoy2 votes

Yes, because adjudicating anything in society solely based off of what the majority wants has always worked out so well for us. Tyranny of the masses OP.

But you're right, no shits are given regardless, whatever happens, happens.

redniwediS2 votes

This isn't a matter of society, it's a matter of business. This game may be free to play but Riot still has to think about their customers, and right now that means assisting the majority of their North American income.

It's just business.

funny how they were successful where they were at. Plenty of people on the east coast had the option of moving to LAN. While people in the west have 0 options now.

Man it sure is fair

redniwediS2 votes

They were successful where they were at because the ping the east coast had was still playable. The west coast is getting less ping than the east coast had, so please stop making it seem like Riot is screwing you over.

Because for some reason the LAN servers are in Florida. But the thing is when all of your friends are on NA are you really going to go play by yourself in a region where a language you don't speak is spoken mostly?

I honestly would not of gotten into league if i had 90 ping when i first started the game. I have played competitive FPS games on east servers (Yes Chicago is in the east, look at a map) and stop cause of the problem.

People on the east choose to start with their high ping and then spent money, so i never felt bad for them they had a choice. Now everyone on the west is getting screwed. I probably have dropped 500 bucks into this game, that i never would of with the servers in the east. I look at as i am getting screw out of cash, since i paid when i had X quality of service.

redniwediS2 votes

I've had to play with 70-100 ping since season 1. It's not nearly as bad as you and many others seem to think. Most people likely won't even notice.

FPS games require a level of accuracy that a MOBA does not, after all. If I can land a skillshot with 100 ping against someone with far lower ping so can you.

Angry Monster2 votes

you may not have the ability to have good reaction times. I on the other hand do

redniwediS2 votes

That doesn't have anything to do with what I said.

WAAAAAA!!! the 80+ ping easterners have been playing with is unplayable, I quit , GG!! Waaaaa!

Except that you kind of forget that on the east coast we average about 100+ when you guys average currently 30-45. That is a huge gap in ping while also being the smaller player base (this is true for most games not just League). You also forget that when the lag is bad on the servers for you guys imagine how bad it is for us when we have double to even triple your ping.

Sarutobi2 votes

I dont get why people keep saying this. Granted i dont have bad ping. usually staying under 100. But wouldnt this help us improve because most people will be leaving towards the eastern side of the servers. We still have the western servers they arent going anywhere, just a much easier and less hassle for people on the eastern part of the US. So why would that affect people like me in Hawaii, Alaska, or Japan?

Angry Monster3 votes

Their will be no western servers. All servers will be in chicago

GhostOfShrimpmas2 votes

There aren't East and West servers, they're shutting down the current West Coast server and replacing it with an eastern server. Still just one server for NA, but now it's in Chicago instead of Portland.

I live in Southern Alaska, and I have 50 ping right now. It's what a lot of you will probably end up with. I'm going to miss it because I never noticed any difference from when I was in Washington besides the number.

I'm hoping the highest it will go is 80, anything beyond that is irritating in my opinion.

Unfortunately because of where you are it will probably at least double in ping, but you know Riot won't just make 2 NA servers.

Has Riot talked about how this will effect Alaska and Hawaii? That's the real issue because I feel like the majority of west coasters are going to be fine ping wise. I'm trying to remain positive, and hope for the best, but it's difficult when I think of the possibility that it could be over 100.

It would suck to have to find another game after how much time and money I've put into this one.

So far all they've said is that they're looking into possible solutions.

So no, they have nothing planned.

I play from Asia so naturally I sent in a support ticket asking about my options after the server move, and for the outlying regions, Riot's basically given the polite PR equivalent of 'fuck you all, thanks for your money'.

To see some people in this thread essentially saying things like, "Well sucks to be you", brings me down even more than Riot giving us the brush off. If I was from an eastern area I would not be okay with people from outlying regions like Alaska and Hawaii getting screwed. That's a pretty significant amount of people, many of them probably spent money.

I agree that the West Coast location was not ideal for all players, however Chicago is in the eastern US. I also completely agree with Angry Monster, if you choose to invest time and money into a competitive game where you had a high ping, then that is your issue. You made the decision knowing full well what you were getting into. I'd still support splitting the NA servers into East and West, or moving to a more centralized location if possible.

If I'd have known they'd be playing it risky with regions not located in the 48 States, then I would not have spent money or invested so much time into this game. I guess we'll find out how everyone makes it out soon enough, but the silence from Riot isn't encouraging on this issue.

I wasn't really complaining about my ping earlier, because it was definitely playable at a steady 300. Despite people bitchmoaning about their ping being in the 80's or 100's. I had no idea them shifting the servers internally would fuck me over by adding another 60-100 ping.

I remember asking Riot a year ago when I started about what their ideas for a change in server infrastructure would be and someone replied saying something about everyone having equal distributed ping being on the top of their list.

The people complaining about 80 ping holding them back from diamond got nothing on you! Seriously though, that's impressive that you can make it work.

That is such an unacceptable increase in ping if that is true. When I think about it, it's sort of weird how Riot doesn't have two NA servers. Does anyone know why they're so intent on keeping us together?

We shall see if it is equal in the coming days, but something tells me it's going to get crazy around here. I at least hope Riot will give you a free server change, if that's at all possible for you.

Alljoy1 votes

I'm trying to make it work but I'm not sure if it's worth it anymore, between people telling me to kill myself and just when I think I've got the hang of teaching my muscle memory the difference in latency after a year of starting, boom, my ping's going to jump up.

DotA2 feels much more inviting at this point, and no, Riot Support made no mention of giving me squat yet, I might try again after the move if I think it's unplayable.

I hope everything works out for you. That's really rough. I did a test match in ARAM recently, and my ping was going from 94-150. I wonder how people in Hawaii are doing. I'm trying to remain positive, but I am looking at other MOBAs like you are.

I'm hoping they clear this up in the next few days. I'm so bummed that this is happening right after my favorite champion got a nice rework, and now she's getting a skin I've dreamed about for a while.

Alljoy1 votes

Well, my ping's remained the same so I can't complain too much. Hopefully it stays that way or I'll have to spend alot more time on Hearthstone while looking for some other MOBA.

Seems like majority of the playerbase has better ping right now though, wonder if it'll make games rougher on my end trying to keep up.

Japan = NA .... ??? isnt russia closer??

Alljoy2 votes

Good luck trying to make friends when you can't speak a word of russki.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

Russia's servers are in Moscow and the connection through Siberia is, unsurprisingly, awful.

Correction: Your last day to play with that ping on the NA server.

What are the numbers in play here? A few hundred players in Hawaii, Alaska and Japan playing on NA getting worse service? Compared to what's likely a few hundred thousand players inside continental NA getting significantly better service? I'm sorry to sound cold, but that's the right decision for Riot to make.

The problem is Riot had a secondary solution that could have been much better. Make a NAE and NAW. Europe has one and is a smaller area and a similar size player base. But the thing is, I am very grateful for reduced ping because I have had anywhere between 120-100 ping the entire time I have been on NA when I could get 30 ping on LA but have no clue wtf anyone is saying.
