You need to click somewhere on the map while holding down that button.

Your champion will move to that spot and attack the closest target every time they can.

EDIT: I'm slightly wrong here. If your character starts auto attacking, they will keep auto attacking even if you tell them to attack move somewhere else. You need to alternate between move and attack move in order to kite.

This video is a good explanation.

I don't use a special key. I just use what league came with.

So, first, put your pink so that you can use all Q W E R keys normally, and then practice hitting the A key.

When you hold A, and click NEAR and enemy, the attack will go to that enemy. Whoever is closer to your mouse click is the one who is targetted.

Now, while you are moving, hold A, click near the target, let go, right click your mouse to move somewhere else, hold A, click near target...

Continue cycle. it sounds more complicated than it is.

It doesn't move for you between auto attacks, attack move only means you will move to attack the target nearest your cursor when you click it. If you don't click really close to a target to specify it, you'll attack anything that comes in range on the way moving there.

Attack move is used for two things;

  1. You don't have a target available but want to start autoattacking anything that does come close. This is best used when someone is currently untargetable or otherwise not visible and you want to auto them the instant they become targetable, such as when you enter a bush they are in.

  2. Assisting you in targeting for autoattacks when your mouse aim isn't accurate enough. This is typically when you just aren't that good, and/or the enemy moves very quickly/unpredictably.

If you want to "orb walk", which is to move the maximum amount between auto attacks without attacking slower or interrupting your attacks, that can't be done automatically and must be practiced. I recommend playing some Draven and Kalista to practice this.

Attack move does nothing practically except make it so you don't misclick and walk towards them when you're trying to auto.

Although the other could be helpful, don't know how many times I've been trying to maneuver with Quinn only to autoattack a cannon minion and break my ult.

To kite, you need to right click to actually move. If you're in range to auto, attack move won't move you.
