Seems pretty necessary with all of these ridiculously strong AD champions running around that are currently dominating the meta. We need more options to deal with these champions (many of them are late game) that are hitting power spikes ridiculously early, even out classing many early champs.
They reworked the

meta and on-hit AS meta, now, being honest, it is not controlling neither the ridiculous ADC's or the AS creeps that are abusing the 
meta.
I agree. I see Ashes that only have 6 thornmails.
Not to mention how much they pushed marksman away from "just auto attack." Many marksmen deal more damage with their spells than their autos. I'd like to see it reflect a lower amount of all physical damage, not just from basic attacks.
Thornmail works fine for armor and health stacking champs, but is completely useless without at least two other armor items. It's synergy with Ninja Tabi is good, but again, one utility mage will now ruin your entire life if you don't have guaranteed hard engage. Building full armor tank Malph, I absolutely would have lost 1v1 to the enemy Kog even with my thornmail if he'd had a frozen mallet and bothered to kite
The item also need a buff due to the reworked warlords giving adc even more lifesteal to negate the damage from thornmail.
I've always kind of wished Thornmail applied Grievous Wounds, at least for 1s.
Gonna need to buff more than thornmail bud. Armor in general is a shit stat. Of course, riot tried really hard to make it that way. They let spectres exist as a free ignore the ap top laner item, but armor has to be stacked to 300+ with 4k health to not die in 3 seconds to a lucian.

I think they are trying to make it a niche Armor item, as I still think it's a damn fine pick when the enemy picks something like Vayne, Kalista or Yi who love to stack Attack Speed.
Also, buy it against Kog'Maw, it's hilarious.
They won't buff thornmail because of rammus and malphite.
I don't think thornmail is a problem at all today. It returns a ton of damage. Sure if thornmail is your only armor item on a tank it is going to do very little for you. At 5-6 tank items you should expect to see a much larger benefit.
As others have mentioned in this thread, all the OP items you see people building like rageblade and such, are not effected by thornmail. So they get a huge damage increase which can not be mitigated by this item. Part of the reason Rageblade is so insane right now is because of how few legitimate items there are in the game which could actually limit its damage.
Riot should keep thornmail the way it is but introduce another version which is effected by magic damage including on hit damage abilities such as rageblade and on use stuff.
The ADCs were buffed. Riot wants them to be strong. We just have to wait for the assassin update so we can get some burst to control these carries.
Thornmail doesn't need any buffs. It's already causing adcs to kill themselves because LW got nerfed.
Like the only reason anyone could think thornmail would need any buffs, is because the current meta adcs deal alot of magic dmg and/or do their damage through abilities.
