Is cull, from a money stance, worth buying

So I was looking at Cull, and i have been seeing pro players get it on first back during lane swap scenarios where they will use it to get a bit more money a bit faster. But if you look at the price it costs 450 gold, whenever you kill a minion it gives you +1 gold up to 100 gold and then it gives you +350 gold when you finish it and that totals the gold that it gives right back to 450 gold. Its only worth 180 so you really only prophet 180 gold and thats after you buy it, finish its stacks and sell it. So my question is, from a money stand point is cull worth it?

In my opinion, cull is not about the money. Cull is useful simply because of the hp returned on his, so champions with massive attack speed can utilize this very well before they have the lifesteal to match. So on champions like Kog'Maw, Lucian, and Kayle, yes Cull is super efficient. Everyone else, except maybe Gangplank, no. Gangplank can buy this on his first back simply because farming on him is easier than playing ww.

If thats the case why not just wait in lane till 900 gold which isn't too hard to do and get a vamp scepter?

SImply because starting a Vamp scepter is not in any way a good idea. Most ADC's start Zeal, than go BF sword. Lifesteal is not efficient until you have massive damage to steal from.

not necessarily Vayne and twitch starts with a bilge water cutlass which as a vamp scepter in its build. Graves at the moment starts deaths dance witch has a vamp scepter in it.

Idk what elo youre talking about, because I have not seen a BOTRK rush on either of those adc's since mid s5. Now, on Vayne, i see a phantom dancer rush, with a BF Sword. Twitch I see a Runaaan's Hurricane with a BF sword being rushed. your mindset is still in Season 5 my man.

The LCS ADC's will often buy Cull, but they usually bank on there being a lane swap so that they can mostly farm.

If your going to use Cull, you better be really good at CSing. Otherwise, it would take too long to stack.

They buy it in LCS because they will have 100 farm by 10 minutes, whereas on a good day i can have 95 playing TF, and at my elo, I always outfarm everyone in the game.

but my question is do you even get a profit from it? it costs 450 and when you finish stacking it you have received 450

You looking at its cost versus its gold return (450 vs 450), doesn't seem like a profit but it is when you consider everything else: the Lifesteal and extra AD at a cheap cost in the first 10 min allows you to stay in lane longer and get ahead of your enemy in CS, and will help you poke down the champ leading to kills. the enemy will most likely have to back to regain health, while you can just auto attack minions and poke to get health back.

as some have mentioned, this will work better on certain champs that others, but from experience, I main Jinx and start cull instead of doran's sometimes or if I am getting pressured in lane and have to back before enemy ADC, I have at least 450 gold and get the cull to even things out. This usually gets me through laning phase and then I get a nice little 350 spike of gold mid game (plus a little extra from selling cull) that is usually just what I need to finish off an Infinity edge or Attack speed item. the timing that this happens at is what makes it beneficial.

But don't forget that the LCS laning phases and skill levels are very different and they can CS in their sleep while I assume at your level (bronze - plat), the scenario above is more likely.

It really comes down to how well you CS whether it's worth it or not. I think I crunched some numbers and the average player (at or below Plat if I recall right) CS's poorly enough that getting a passive gold income item actually turns a bigger profit sooner.

Consider dorans blade start as the other options. Costs 450, sells for 160. It puts you behind on your big items but gives you the power necessary to fight early game over someone who didnt buy dorans blade. Cull gives you a bit less combat power but on hit the healing is far more efficient than lifesteal early in the game especially on champs who get a lot of attacks in like lucien with his extra passive auto, kog maw the machine gun, ez the constant q'er, etc.

The value of cull is that it doesn't set you behind by 300 gold the way dorans blade does, while still providing some useful early game stats that help you farm and play passively if you are a champion who doesn't want to be going all in constantly.
