AOE damage Q that slows enemies

Dash that flips enemies back singed style

Machine gun that has shotgun shells that AOE damage

Execute ult that instantly kills low hp enemies and just in case also slows them down

and a shield....a fucking shield....why a shield? in what mind did the makers of urgot feel he needed a shield?

urgot had a shield pre-rework; its one of the few things he's kept next to his reposition mechanic tacked onto his e now.

he has no escape mechanics at all. no def stats or mechanics outside the shield. no mobility . and if he is using W he is slowed alot .

i dont think his shield is the issue in his kit

Cause he is juggernaut and he doesn't have any access to any defensive tools such as item 3053 neither have a sustain tool so that shield is his only way to survive in the mid of fight.

Like On My Kill List mentioned, he had a shield before the rework. The shield and his lock-on mechanic (kinda) are the only things he kept from his former self.
Urgot is supposed to be a juggernaut, which are supposed to be champions with good damage and tankiness. All juggernauts have some defense in their kit, but in most cases, this mechanic is actually a heal. Urgot is the only juggernaut who gets the shield, so if you deal damage to him, then this damage sticks, unlike for the other juggernauts, who can heal back up.
