My last 6 games consisted of an autofilled support.

Apparently I don't say this enough, but you create the conditions that yield this result.
Supports are told they get carried Supports are expected to ward exclusively They're never given any credit unless they're saving your bacon routinely They're expected to go gold-less, kill less, and loveless.
Thank your support, appreciate them, and do it for the non-flashy stuff: warding; exhausting;hooking for saves; hooking for kills; well timed ults and heals.
DO NOT
Tell them what champ to play Make them play a tank because no one else did (Jungle and top, looking at you) Complain when they CS because you're on the fountain Ignore requests for ganks when they're babysitting a clueless ADC Come for the kill, jungle tax, then leave them alone to attack the tower Tell them what to build

The reason people hate Support is because it offers a less direct path to reward. Play well as a support? That's great, but you better hope your team also plays well or your efforts are significantly less important. For example, time your peel perfectly as Janna? Terrific, but your ADC never trades and constantly gets hooked. You have to hope your team listens to your calls and goes for objectives. Shit team? You don't have the fallback pattern of farming because you fall off.
Play well as a jungle assassin? Congratulations, you have plenty of gold from kills, and can now force objectives. You don't typically get punished unless you personally make a mistake, and good play directly equals good results. Not as reliant on ally follow-up. Shit team? Can still split push for objectives. Can farm the jungle if your team is a bunch of bonobo apes.
Honestly, assess the team, though. Always build SS, but from there either pivot to AP or utility based on your read of the team.
Having said that, the roles interest or boredom is unrelated to people dumping on them constantly. Praise is free and easy.

It still doesn't feel good having your success be contingent upon your team's ability to follow up. You can always ward up then roam, but at the end of the day, someone else f*cked your lane for you, and you fall off, and as such farming up isn't an option as it is for ADC, so the pressure falls onto you to make plays elsewhere before you become significantly less useful.
Yep it sure does. Evidently how to support is an important skill. Actually it is. There are so many things that you have to know how to do and do well for the team to be a support.
