Different Game Every Season (Rant)
Alright, just, holy f-cking cow dude. Just came off the PBE and I have to say, at least in my own opinion, everything I'd observed about the changes was right. It's obscene how different the game is, I barely even know what I'm doing. I understand the champion kits, but I don't understand these new strengths and weaknesses. Things I could do before, I can't do anymore. Master Yi, used to be able to run 35% attack speed 9 armor at the start of the game, come out with 1.0 A/S and have Fervor fix my damage till I bought some myself. Press the Attack isn't any different than Fervor in essence, but in practice it feels so damn awkward. And you have to go Press the Attack on Yi, else you have to dip heavily in to attack damage to make up for the AD you no longer have. Attack speed means nothing if your attacks do 50 damage. DoT mages have almost nothing for them, I'm actually mortified to try my favorite champions top lane because everything feels so different and awkward that I'm actually intimidated. This isn't just change, this is a whole new system that I have to re-learn while still playing at the level I currently play at, else I'm going to lose every game and stop having fun. "But that's what the PBE can be used for, so that that doesn't happen to you on Live!" But it's happening on the PBE, and that's still not fun for me! I'd rather play Live and enjoy what I can out of the system that I know and have gotten to know, intimately, over the past 4 years than play the same game under what feels like a brand new engine with entirely different everything over on the PBE, which will come live in about a month and a half.
And it's like this every season. Every season something totally brand new has to come to the game to "keep it fresh" for the LCS viewers. Let's be real, Riot, if you kept just adding new champions, focused on champion balance and every so often did some stat changes to the camps, or changed around the number of spawns in each camp, people would be content. A fair amount of people, at the very least, would be content. There's a familiarity, there's 7 years of history to learn off and take from, there's so much information and.. Now, most of it's defunct. It's worthless. You can't learn anything from it, because everything is so different, and just keeps getting more and more different. Remember the idea where cannon minions only spawn in one lane at a time, top-to-bottom, in a cycle? That had literally no purpose other than mixing things up, it doesn't improve on anything, it's change for the sake of change. I'm scared of what's gonna happen come season 9. I'm scared of what's gonna happen mid-season, since now the massive game changes come every half-year instead of every year.
I'm Platinum, and I was aiming for Diamond. I've been excited to play this game every day and I take so much pride in the knowledge I have. Had, now, because I don't feel like I know what I'm doing anymore. I don't feel like I'm playing League of Legends. I feel like I'm playing one of those chinese bootlegs that has a lot of the same resources but one thing drastically different to try and go "No, it's not your game, see THIS?!?!"
Please stop. Please stop with these massive changes, please stop wildly revamping everything to try and keep it "new" and "exciting". I play League of Legends because it's a really well-designed game that, while different from when it started, still has comparability to when it started. I can look back at Season 1 videos and go, "Yeah I could probably do that still, it might work even better!". I won't be able to do that, the changes are too great. Ffs, there's a sub-rune that gives you a free one-off Zhonyas, one of the biggest bait-tools to exist in League. I just.. it's too much, Riot. I don't know what game this is anymore.
