Do not ignore these items if you are a support

Buy this if you are an AP scaling champion and you are against a primarily AP team. Your aegis of the legion aura still helps give out magic resistance and the extra AP is nice. And the active effect gives you a window to force a team fight somewhere. Upon seeing the super cannon someone usually leaves to go kill it. Force a 5v4 or else the super cannon minion will force them to defend or lose a tower. This item is also the bane of Malzahar, Vladimir, Azir, Vel'koz, Lux and any makes who rely on spells for wave clear so send it down whereever the enemy mage is and laugh. And any minions killed by your empowered cannon you get the kill gold so it pays for itself in time which is great. Just be aware It does NOT stop Yasuo in the slightest.

One of the few items in game with dual resistances. Buy it when your team needs a super tank and the enemy has significant damage in both AP and AD outlets. How you use this item is by placing it in the enemy jungle by a tower you want and then go elsewhere and keep the enemy distracted while it chips away at the tower. Like the empowered cannon minions the portal cannot be damaged by abilities. It sucks for defending turrets but can be used in this manner. Works super well if your top laner builds one too and you use them both at the same time at opposite ends of the map. Placing them in the same lane is overkill in my opinion.
