Is Lulu a poke support champion because I cannot see it?

As I play lulu support I always buy spell thief edge which later turns into frost fang. I always max Q so I can maximize the amount of poke. What I notice is that when I land a Q on an ADC it will do about 110 to 130 damage but that damage is healed back by the ADC lifesteal items, or heal from relic shield (all tanky support), or heal from supports (Nami, soraka, and Sona) and this will all happen in 7 to 10 seconds. As a lulu support you cant q poke a lot because lulu is mana hungry so what I do is do about 2 to 3 q hit which will leave half my mana to protect my ADC in case of a gank. Another problem is lulu can miss and get hurt herself and have no way to heal back. I would have situation where I land q hit which do about 110 to 130 damage and then the ADC and sup attack me back, lulu is squishy, leaving me with little more than half my health left. Then next thing you know the damage I did with Q is healed back in 7 to 10 seconds. So pretty much all I got out of it was 5 or 10 gold coin.

With the sona change she has become a poke champion. Sona q can do so much damage with her passive on and on top of that she can heal herself if she gets hurt.

I honestly dont think lulu is a poke champion because I am poking and poking and the damage I am doing is just disappearing some time it leads me to die so much. So I am like forget it. I notice that I do so much better when I max E and W first before Q. Kind of make sense after the nerf on movement speed duration. I am able to protect my adc better when I do this instead of maxing Q.

If you still believe Lulu is a poke champion plz tell me how because it not working for me. Also this is for support lulu and not top lane so I am not going to build like a top lane Lulu.Lulu

Lulu's mostly a poke support because of her incredible auto attack harass. Pix+Spellthief's=A ton of damage.

But Spell thief only procs on auto attack not on each bolt of pix.

It still does an unfair amount of damage for being basically costless.

try playing Lulu like Janna

Lulu's Glitterlance is her main poke spell, but the majority of lulu's support poke should be coming from your auto attacks. Consider with your passive and the extra damage from Spellthief, your aa can do close to 70 (edited) damage per shot at level one.

Playing support lulu takes a lot of strategy since she received nerfs (mostly due to her solo lane dominance).

With that said, it's very easy to counter Sona's early poke. Just focus her. Sona has the 5th lowest base health in the game. Since she's so easy to burst, just poke her. This forces her to spam heal which is on a 10 second cd and costs 70 mana at rank one. She will go oom and be forced to play passively.

+9 / 21 / 33 / 45 / 57 / 69 / 81 / 93 / 105 (+ 15% AP) magic damage.

I dont see 100 damage on auto attack because spell thief gives + 10 and frost fang gives + 15

Oh, that's true, sorry. At level one it only does about 70 Damage. But still, this is the majority of your poke.

To a certain extent I think you're running into a "different play styles" problem. Lulu can be an amazing poke support but she can also be a strong defensive support playing "protect the adc."

To adress Lulu's mana problems and threat of counter poke I run mana and health regen runes. For masteries I like about 15/15/0 or somewhere there about. This gives strong early damage with both AP and AD and some defense for winning trades in lane. Like others have said, try to use your aa as well but with a few mana regen runes you can spam your q allot more often and still have mana for the defense.

If I'm up against a longer range poke support such as Zyra or Morgana I'll start with Coin and focus on my shield to protect the adc since I can't match them for safety or damage and trying to trade poke will just end badly.

Auto attack harass + a few Q's is still strong poke against some lanes. Of course Lulu cannot poke harder than Sona, Nami or Soraka can heal. But you can definitely punish supports with relic shield for coming near the minion wave. I would say Lulu is a poke champion, but it is only effective in certain lane matchups.

I wonder if you also felt this way at the start of season 4? Because her poke is largely unchanged while other parts of her kit were nerfed quite heavily. I really like your approach of maxing E first, but stopped doing that after the nerfs in patch 4.5. If support Lulu ever gets compensation, I hope Riot will make maxing E more viable again.

Use autos more often and take a Doran's Ring instead of Spellthief's as it provides better stats and is actually far more gold efficient. If you consistently get assists, the Spellthief's won't be necessary. The nerfs to it make it crappier than garbage imo. I never take it. For runes, I go 3 ability quints and 9 hybrid pen. I did try 9 scaling ability power with it, but I found it just wasn't that strong later. I've been considering trying flat glyphs for early game dominance instead. The rune page is split between offense and utility. I don't put anything into defense and instead buff ability power and max all the gold masteries with the CD masteries on each tree. If we're already winning lane by the time of my first recall I'll get Sightstone, if not, I go for a mana item and opt to just not push too far past the river with my adc, or I just pay extra attention and keep my W ready to get my adc out. That helps with poke. In terms of landing pokes, I find E, then Q, is incredibly reliable, then use W on your adc so they can get the kill. E does quite a bit of damage, the Q will slow, your W on adc will let them bridge an insane distance for the kill. When your E is back up, shield adc from their support and poke him back with Q if your adc doesn't have an escape. That usually works for me. I'm experimenting with items/runes/masteries. The nerfs are really annoying, but Lulu's still a solid champ. Her handling doesn't feel so different I can't use her. I do miss minion shields and damage though. :\

[Q], fit in an AA or two before the slow wears off, get out of range, rinse-repeat.

Lulu is very powerful, but she's more about utility than damage. Like Sona, I would trade out a item 3303 for item 3069 line once you can't harass as effectively.
