Why does Essence reaver not restore mana from damage done by phisical damage (including spellcasts)?

Wouldn't this be the intended use of the item?

because Riot's got no interest in helping AD casters/bruisers. Only ADcs.

Well, given that caster ADC itemization sucks right now, and any items that might be good for them get balanced for assassin use instead, it's not unreasonable for them to get an item that at least tries to work for them.

No.

It's designed for AA champions, and is specifically restricted from abilites by its on-hit nature. Ezreal gets away with it, though, because of his [Q]. (Technically Fiora's ult, too)

They did it this way so that AD casters won't become spam dispensers. Imagine if it did provide mana from physical damage on abilities. Jinx, Graves, and Jayce would be very happy campers.

So let it be a lategame upgrade. Keep the autoattack mana restore on the starting item but let the BF upgrade be the spellcast version. Because currently, sinking 3200 gold on it doesn't help much.

I think the use of it is to utilize auto attacks while the spells are on cooldown. Essentially, by the time the spell is ready again, you have enough mana to cast it again.

If it gave you mana on all physical damage, then any spell that deals physical dmg might as well be regarded as free.

Yea essence reaver is pretty much shit. i tried it on urgot for a few games but the amount of mana it restores during a teamfight when you are auto attacking, even on other champions, is maybe enough for 1 or two spells. Its just flat out better to go mana mune for the guaranteed 750 bonus mana and the active. You're gonna be able to cast way more spells and do a shit ton more damage late game and not have to worry about running low on mana with that useless essence reaver passive. Theres just not enough creeps for you to attack to get any meaningful amount of mana past the laning phase. If physical abilities restored mana I think it would probably break it because your abilities would be costing less mana, so urgots q for instance which is cut by 50% when killing a unit, so 20 mana, would do about 450 damage and then restore a little under 40 mana, essentially gaining mana while using ablities. Just imagine that on jayce gate combo.

You ever think it was maybe because you were using Urgot?

if its broke on one champion its still broke retard thats why they nerf frozen guantlet for ranged because ez q was too strong

Just because item 3089 is worthless on Talon Vayne Zed doesn't mean we need to buff it.

Just because item 3092 is worthless on melees doesn't mean it needs to be buffed.

Just because item 3160 is worthless for anyone that doesn't jungle doesn't mean it need to be buffed.

That would it too much like Manamune thought, which procs it's mana passive on basic attacks.

riot doesn't want players getting more mana back than they spent on a spell. the point is to allow an AD champ with mana issues an option to restore their mana through autoattacks.

An item that builds out of Brutalizer and Catalyst would be far, far more useful to AD Casters than Reaver is. Make it trigger the Cata passive on kills/assists and restore some smallish amount of HP and Mana on minion/monster kills.

We need more items that build out of Catalyst as it is.
