Best way to learn a new champion?

I'd like to learn some new champions, but whenever I try them out in normals I'll end up facing a 200k mastery point one trick main in lane. I can't see a possible way to learn new champions other than creating custom matches with both teams trying new champions to make it fair. It's either that or just take 30+ losses in a row (unless you get carried), which feels awful.

Learning new champions in normals is bad idea not only because you face 500k+ mastery point otp Yasuos and Zeds (Yasuo and Zed are usually banned in ranked so they prefer normal games to play them) but also because normal matchmaking is horrible (even worse than ranked matchmaking).

I think playing custom games is the best way to learn new champions.

Custom games, 1v5 vs intermediate bots. Will help you practice CS and get a basic grasp of champ mechanics.

If you don't want to play custom games or ARAMs, trial & error through norms is the best way to hone your skills. You'll lose some games but over time you'll begin to hone your skills and get more comfortable with the champion.
