[Concept] Karma Rework (Teamfight based support-style mage)

Numbers are experimental at best

Passive: Gathering Fire

Dealing non-mantra empowered spell damage to a champion or large monster grants 1 stack of Gathering Fire for ten seconds, and shielding an allied champion from champion damage also grants 1 stack (max 1 stack per target per spell).

You can have up to six stacks of Gathering Fire at once.

Each stack of Gathering Fire reduces the CD of your next Mantra by 10%.

Q: Soul Spark 60/70/80/90/100 mana, 10 second CD

Karma fires a bolt of energy in a target direction. If it collides with an enemy, it will explode to deal 70/90/110/130/150 (+.65 AP) magic damage in an area around the target, slowing damaged units by 25% for 1 second. If it passes through an ally, it will grant them 10/15/20/25/30% attack speed and cause their spells to recharge 5/7.5/10/12.5/15% faster for 3 seconds.

The cool down of soul spark is reduced by 5% for each champion affected.

Karma is not buffed by the initial cast of Soul Flare. (Note: She can flash into it, if you really want to)

MANTRA: Soul Flare

Damage increased by 25/50/75/100 (+.15 AP).

Units hit by the missile will carry a "Soul Flare Aura" for 3 seconds (radius 350). Enemies caught in the aura will be slowed by 12.5% and take the damage of the missile again over the duration. Allies caught in the aura have all "Soul Spark" buffs applied to them as well as increasing their damage, healing, and shield output by 5/10/15/20% (+2% per 100 AP).

Overlapping auras don't stack.

(Note: Healing and Shielding output refers only to heals and shields they apply to units other than themselves).

(Note: Soul Flare Aura counts towards the CDR for Soul Spark)

W: Focused Resolve 65/80/95/110/125 mana, 15 second CD

Bind two target champions or monsters for 2 seconds (targets must be within 600 range of each other). If the two units stray more than 1000 units apart, the binding will break.

All enemies caught in the binding (both those targeted and caught between) are dealt 30/55/80/105/130 (+.45 AP) magic damage per second.

Enemies caught in the binding as it ends are rooted for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds. If an enemy champion is successfully rooted, all allied champions in the binding gain 20% movement speed for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds.

MANTRA: Bonds of Determination

Targeting changed to bind all champions and monsters within 600 range to one target. The initial target has their movement speed modified by 25% for the duration (slow or haste depending on if they are an enemy or an ally) Damage per second is increased by 12.5/25/37.5/50 (+.075 AP). Allies caught in the bindings take 15% less damage from enemies also caught in a bind.

E: Defiance 60/70/80/90/100 mana, 10 second CD

Shield a target allied champion for 60/80/100/120/140 (+.4 AP) health, lasting up to four seconds, granting them 35/40/45/50/55% movement speed as long as the shield lasts. When the shield is broken or it expires, all enemies within 350 units of the shielded unit take magic damage equal to 25-75% of the health the shield lost over its duration.

MANTRA: Stand Together

The Defiance shield is shared among all allied champions within 600 units of the initial target and has its shield amount increased by 7.5/15/22.5% per ally shielded. Additionally, the enemy who dealt the last instance of damage to the shield before it expires or breaks (and all their allies within 350 units) take the full shield expiration damage.

(Note: Shared shielding means that if one ally loses shield HP, all allies under the protection of the shield lose the same amount of shield HP)

R: Mantra 60/50/40/30 second CD

(automatically learned at level 1)

Empower your next basic ability cast within 8 seconds.

Hey there, fellow Karma reworker.

You might want to add, that the stacks refresh (if they do). With the last line, do you mean, that this is essential CDR that stacks with your already existing CDR? Does it reduce total CD or current CD?

I like that you tried integrating skillfull shielding into Karma's passive. It's a real failure that her duality nature was forgotten and she only gets treats for hurting others. Your approach is not refined yet, but better spirited, imo.

The current Q does not seem to be suited for aiming at allies. I appreciate the idea though. "Causes their spells to recharge".... do you mean CDR? Also, I would change the last line to something flat. If you take a flat 10s, why not take a 1s reduction? Or 1s for the first and 0.5s for every champion after that, maxing out at 3s.

This is weird, but interesting. Again, this kind of depends on the actual hitbox of the finalized spell. Is this supposed to be a buff/debuff area? Like, enemies take damage in it and allies are buffed up? And why not allow for heals to be buffed on themselves? Isn't that the point of this utility kit? You don't wanna hit all your supports, so they can do the supporting... you wanna hit ALL of your team, especially the poor tanks in the front, who gotta facetank their threats. Give them a hand with a little increased healing/shielding!

Bind two target champions or monsters for 2 seconds (targets must be within 600 range of each other). If the two units stray more than 1000 units apart, the binding will break.

I tried this once, but threw the idea out, because the targetting would be so clunky. I still like the idea, but clicking twice would still feel awkward to me. And I have honestly failed to find a more convenient way of binding two targets of your choice other than... targetting them.

Overoll, however, your W suffers from what nearly every Karma rework suffers from; inability to settle, what exactly W is supposed to do and overloading the first part so much, that the mantra part just kills it. Again, I like the idea behind it and I miss the old mechanic, but at this point I could competely understand why Riot gave up trying to work with the old clothline tether.

E: Defiance

The thing I do not like about this is.... that it takes away agency from Karma. The thing I do like is.... it's a shield bomb and it forces some impossible decisions from your enemy. However, leaving your enemy to decide is generally favouring them... which leads to some design issues.

I am still in favour of returning the on-cast-aoe-damage for this ability. The threatened exlposion seems thematic, but does not work as well in ingame mechanics.

Overall I appreciate your effort and like some of your ideas quite much, but they are clunky and lack syngery. I still consider this one of the better rework suggestions for Karma and wonder why this gets literally NO attention. I would love to hear some other Karma main reviews of this.

Thanks for putting in the effort tho!
