Kayle counters Yasuo.

Cloak an Dagger··34 votes·5,446 views

In every way and scales just as hard. Kayle

  1. He cannot wind wall her ranged auto attack damage. It can also be baited out by her shorter cooldown Q.

  2. His ult is negated by her ult.

  3. His passive "resolve" is easily popped by her ranged auto attacks. She deals sustained damage and not burst so it isn't nearly as useful in lane.

  4. His poke doesn't stick because she has innate sustain.

  5. He cannot push waves as well because she has superior wave clear.

  6. Yasuo cannot single out a high priority target for assassination because Kayle has ways to protect them (Ultimate, heal+speed buff, slow).

  7. summoner 3

None of these reasons rely on itemization, which is generally not considered "counterplay".

Does Windwall affect Malz's ult? (since its animation shoots out in a straight line)

7ha7guy7772 votes

Nope. The only thing in his kit that can be blocked is his auto attacks

The Lexer1 votes

Can't his Q get messed up?

7ha7guy7771 votes

If it can, he'd have to be standing inside his windwall to block it.

Malz does very well against Yasuo I heartily agree. Then again I find he is quite the jack-of-all-trades when it comes to dealing with reaaaaallly annoying champions. The silence works wonders against champions that have very low cool-downs on their abilities. The suppression on his ultimate is key in locking them down as well.

I'm confused at Anivia being listed as a counter.

She is weak against champs that can push hard early on, and her damage is mostly bursty, and in the form of projectiles.

she has a high aa range to pop the passive, and if he dashes towards her he can't avoid q+e, which costs him more than half his health. i really often get FB at lvl 2 vs yasuo as anivia, cause the dash is telgraphed enough to land a pointblank Q right when he goes for the trade stunning him befor he can use windwall, as he can't windwall mid dash.

Csing always sucks a bit pre 6 with her, and post 6 you don't care about his waveclear. your passive also makes you a hard target to asasinate if you're close to your team/under a tower.

Anivia is also a strong siege/countersiege champ, if she shoves in the waves mid/late, yasou does not have any range waveclear to deal with it, and if he goes splitpushing, anivia can easily hold a tower in a 3v4 while 2guys take care of yasuo. In a teamfight, it's hard to play around anivias ult with an all-in melee, if he goes for her she has her egg, if he goes for another target she can just q-e him duering his ult animation and he's prettymuch dead from fullhealth.

Her R (Glacial Storm) slows attack Speed as well and not just movement speed. It is very effective against Yasuo who heavily relies on both for combat stats.

anivia cannot lane vs Yasuo at all, but she outscales him very hard in damage and utility later in the game, which is the only reason yasuo has abad winrate against her

it is literally impossible to win lane vs yasuo as anivia unless there is heavy jungle interference

I don't see how Anivia is playable now at all. The game is usually over around 20 minutes. Anivia is good vs immobile and melee champions.

Captain Aishi1 votes

anivia has really good base damage on her abilities, and she sets up ganks fairly well, so if you pick a snowbally jungler, ganking her lane is a good way for your team to be the one stomping thanks to the fed jungler :P

the best combos i've played with as anivia is stuff like vi/elise that also have good base damage and some CC to make the duo deadly in ganks

Kitten of Evil1 votes

The new Thunderlord works great on her, as it will proc from Q-Q-E, or three ticks of R, and she also has a long auto-attack range. So she's burstier than before.

The bigger problem really is with the fast pace of games, since Anivia doesn't really hit peak power until she completes two very expensive items.

Azlagor2 votes

fast paced games seem to be more in her favor http://champion.gg/champion/Anivia her winrate in short games is insane, and drops hard later on. It's her massive basevalues on Q+E+R that allow her to be a force with prettymuch only catalyst and bluebuff, especially with the new masteries and blue giving ap.

good anivias can beat yasuo, or make it harder for yasuo to get a lead, eventually the lane becomes really annoying for yasuo as a simple E R from anivia can take 1/2 of yasuo health, its so annoying XD

Captain Aishi1 votes

e+r from anivia will get windwalled and you're down 200+ mana for no damage done, it's not sustainable in any realistic scenario since once this is down he can usually quickly shove the minion wave and force you to spend your next R cooldown to farm the wave (otherwise good luck prepping last hits under tower at that point in the game)

Did u know you can cancel his ult with the wall?

Also, egg counters assassins pretty hard. Yasuo can't ult her under turrent if it's up.

Only Play Darius2 votes

She can sit back and farm against him. Her stun will destroy him if it lands. Her ult really messes with him and he doesn't have the burst to kill her and get out, he is forced to DPS her while in the blizzard, his lack of scaling MR really bites him in the ass in this matchup.

Also Anivia is fine having her lane shoved in, farming under turret becomes easy once she hits 6 and her kit makes her very good at following up on ganks whereas Yasuo is extremely vulnerable to ganks.

Anivia has a mechanic where if she hits a Q or R, the enemy has a status effect known as "chilled" which makes her E do double damage, this can usually half health someone, Her damage is done in burst, but she is a combo champion, she needs to combo once, then kite or chase while waiting for CD to do the second part. She is heavily countered by high sustain.

Works against bad Yasuos to an extent and gives decent out play potential at 6 if you can land all your shit properly. However yea Yasuo > Anivia for the most part.

Sir Hammerlock4 votes

As an Anivia main that had pretty incredible stats with her during S5, I'm surprised more people don't take up Anivia against Yasuo.

Anivia's 600 Auto Attack range allows her to easily proc his passive whenever it's up, and if you use her Q for when Yasuo gets close, he can't counter it or wind wall it in time to negate the stun, and Anivia can out push him like crazy.

Ch0c0lateJesus1 votes

She can outpush anything post 6.

I would expect a counter would have an innate and maybe specific advantage from the start. What youre talking about seems more like general counterplay to Yasuo, and outplay manuvers rather than an inherent advantage.

The biggest factor I can see is that people tend to underestimate Avivia's damage, and Yas players like to be cocky and get in your face. It's honestly like running right into a leblanc's face. Still sounds more like a skill matchup though.

600 range? This gives me reason to play Anivia ADC.

Attack speed 0.625 (+1.20%/lvl) would be the reason not to, however :P

or swain who basically has no resources if your used to his bad aa animation and since pre and after 6 he has 2 skills that go through wind wall e ofc not going through windwall but due to a lower cd swain can E+Q for tons of dmg and add that with the death fire touch mastery Q alone would hurt a lot thanks to the mastery+swain is allowed to build tanky even in the mid lane thanks to his E providing all the dmg he requires making it even harder for yasuo to sweep a quick kill on him

None of these reasons rely on itemization, which is generally not considered "counterplay".

Sadly, many people who rely on that reasoning also deny that counter-picking is a form of counterplay so your post will probably fall on deaf ears.

Personally, I like using Cho'gath as a counter to Yasuo. Yasuo can't do anything to avoid your W or R, your E can be used to keep his shield down constantly, and you get far too tanky for him to kill even when building AP.

So happy to see i'm not the only one having problems laning against Brand

PrinceOfStorms2 votes

That's partly because Brand just kinda dumps all over Yasuo. Yas can't really harass Brand unless he lands a tornado, because dashing in means that Brand can just land the EQW combo and chunk off half to 75% of his HP.

Only Play Darius2 votes

Thank god. Seeing as brand is a squishy skillshot-reliant mage I thought I was simply terrible for losing to him. But that godforsaken stun screws me up each time

Zair Umbras2 votes

He doesn't even need to land the stun. Just E'ing with DFT after he has a Needlessly can take you down a couple hundred or so with a level 1 E. lol

item 3124 is the only reason kayle is even good right now. hell that piece of shit item needs nerfed because it makes champions like XinZhao a pain in the ass to play against even WITH putting item 3033 on him.. honestly riot doesn't know how to balance right now.

SithesisLord1 votes

The only reason?

Because that extra 10% AS on the item literally everyone builds on her or the Fervor of Battle keystone totally didn´t happen. Besides, Kayle's always been good in lane. Her jungle performance is shit. Pre Devourer nerfs and post devourer nerfs.

But she's always been good. Her passive is what makes her shine.

Dengeden1 votes

Hm, well I don't give Yasuo any credit because, as you correctly assessed, sustain and DPS screws him pretty hard. But theory crafting:

  1. Kayle will have mana problems if she spams her heal
  2. Pretty much everything can die to Yasuo's lv 2 cheese
  3. He can windwall her Q and dash away when Kayle stacks her passive on him
  4. If it comes to split push, I'm fairly certain it'll turn into a stalemate. They can clear waves equally quickly and from similar range. Kayle won't be able to kill him if her Q doesn't lock him down. With enough LS and tenacity/slows, he can ensure that.
  5. As an assassin, he can catch out your carries better while she can only empower her allies.
Doctor Jarvis1 votes

I recently picked up Kayle again, as I do every few months, and I've found this to be my favorite part of her. She just wrecks Yasuo. Not just in lane, where he truly pays for his lack of Hp regen (and with Thunderbird's Decree you just fuck him up so quickly), but as you said late game you just ult the dude he wants to kill and laugh the whole way home. One thing I've been saying a lot is "I don't respect that Yasuo" because I do so well against him that I forget other champs don't have that same advantage over him. Playing Kayle into Yasuo feels like cheating, but screw Yasuo

Just because a counter exists doesn't mean that a champion isn't an issue. Whoever said these words is misinformed. It does however mean that there are options. Whether or not you want to take these options is up to you. That being said you do get 3 bans per ranked game until said champion is fixed. I suggest using Yasuo as one of them if you are struggling against this champion.

wind wall doesnt work on her AA? hmmm are you sure about that? also, theres some things that work in kayles favour but to make up some potentially bs reasons as to why she, according to you, directly "counters" him just means that you're trying to be edgy for the purpose of being edgy. i can give you 8 even better reasons as to why yasuo "counters" kayle. try me m8

SithesisLord2 votes

No, windwall does not work on her AA. Neither on the attack itself, nor on the AOE. It´s not a projectile. And if it´s not a projectile, it passes through windwall like it wasn´t even there.

Some things that work on Kayle's favor? Unless the Kayle player is braindead, the matchup completely favors her because of how she works. She doesn´t need to be close to Yasuo to wreck him.

The greatest weakness for champions with high mobility like him is slows/snares/stuns.

He takes a waveclear/crit/AS item first while she takes an AP/AS/CDR/Oh-hit Magic damage item.(Statikk vs. Nashor's) Her item has a lot more stats and a lot more synergy with her kit.

Kayle isn´t as squishy as everyone presumes her to be. Her status as a Fighter is pretty justified. Take a Rylai's and boom, you just killed one of Yasuo's main ways of chasing down someone. She gets HP and a modest amount of AP from it. With an extra slow on hit.

Her ult > His ult. Simple, really. He ults. She ults right after his ends. She heals herself with W, slows him with Q, brings up her E and chunks him down before her ult ends.

Yasuo is more of the damage kind of champion. Kayle, much like Ryze, works more with resistance reduction than pure damage.

summoner 3 Reduces MS and AS. Yasuo needs those. Reduces his Armor and MR by 10 flat points. Synergizes perfectly with her passive. Reduces damage dealt by 40%. Those crits suddenly aren´t all that powerful. All in 2.5 seconds, which is all she needs to destroy him.

She directly counters him. It´s not being edgy. OP stated all the right reasons as to why it is the way the is, much like i´m doing right now.
