I've been having much more success! Now It's not optimal but It's baby steps. It's so hard to resist retaliation in self-defense for me that I find I win more games and can concentrate better if I do this..for now. Slowly working on not having to do this. I'm trying not to do this EVERY game but I can tell in champ select about 90% of the time when they will have nothing conducive to say anyway. Especially with dynamic queue disabled.

Just remember somethings:

You'll likely never play with these people again.
You owe them nothing, you only owe yourself not to get banned.
Your opinions and their opinions of each other's performance are worthless during & after the game, focus on winning, or learning from your defeat.
Don't mute your team, just respond to insults with "lol" it shows them that they aren't getting to you, and they will feel stupid and look immature to everyone else (kind of getting back at them, everyone likes a bit of revenge, I'm no saint.) They'll get punished and you'll do two things: 1) toughen up your skin so you're not easy to offend 2) You'll weed out the real trolls and toxic players.

It also helps to go into the game with a certain mindset.

Even some of the strongest champions have a 52% winrate. That means you should expect to lose about half the game you play. If you go in understanding that most people's win/loss ratio averages out to around 50%, that can make losing games not feel as bad.

I have seen that happen in norms as well. Best way to avoid is dodge at champ select the second time you see them and wait for about 10 - 15 mins. Then try queuing up again; it has always worked in my experience.

I have only ever queued with the same person more than once whenever i'm doing a premade. I have only once ever met someone in on my friends list by random. I've been on this game since Season 1, you might be that .001% (arbitrary number) but that doesn't mean my point is any less valid for the vast majority.

No muting your teammates is 100% the way to go. A. Everyone knows Riots punishment system is the perfect example of terrible. you have to be so toxic that it is in their financial interest to ban you then let you keep playing and potentially making others quit with your toxicity. B. Just because you dont reply back does not mean toxic talk from 1-4 of your teammates raging and QQing at you does not impact you. This tougher skin mentality is fairly crap. Sure you might toughen up and not talk back but you are full of crap if you think 1-4 people being shit heads to you in chat from a 20+ min game does not impact you.

No muting your teammates is 1000000xxxx the way to go. Can still communicate with pings. which everyone does anyway, and you remove any possibility of your emotions getting out of control. /ignore all and done.

It honestly doesn't impact me. I've never been banned or chat restricted in the five years I've played League. Half the time I ignore chat to begin with unless there are pings on the map that aren't spammed for no reason, or in a negative way.

If you're easily offended then I would guess your solution works out well enough.

Saying "Lol" at someone raging at you is not being toxic, it's being the bigger man. Muting your teammate only gives them the satisfaction and, like a small child, they will continue to do it over and over again.

Whenever people rage at me in game, I just say to myself "wow what a dick" and keep playing. You don't have to type anything. If you feel like you absolutely have to respond, do it out loud, to yourself.

This is me! Especially if I am lucky to be playing with a friend and chatting over some voice app. It's a lot more fun to rage outloud anyway, so satisfying to hear those words and not waste time typing XD

People need thicker skin for one, and for two, people will put trash in their responses at the end of game to get players banned for things not really happening. RIOT needs work on this as they fail to even step to the plate on weeding things out that are and are not factual. They let a flawed system try to do it of a broken program or those that arbitrate or judge players and have chips on their shoulders.

Yeah, turning off /all chat made the game far more enjoyable.

I've been asking team mates to upg trinkets recently, but still only getting a 30% response. Gonna just go back to muting everyone.

Far more enjoyable game when you stop worrying about everyone else.

Because if someone who was previously extremely toxic reads these negative/shitty comments then it can/will tilt them to shit and they possibly will comment without thinking and then be banned again for toxicity. I would rather have a toxic player in my game mute everyone to preemptively stop the toxicity/tilt than the other option.

Good on you OP but, if I may ask, do you mute everyone regardless even if in champ select someone is nice and friendly? Or do you just do everyone regardless?

False reports are weeded out very effectively by the system. If you are going to claim you can "type anything" and get punished, then prove it by finding someone's reform card that has no toxicity in the logs. You won't be able to though, because the people that claim this are actually just being toxic and think it's ok.

These 2 games get a perma-ban issued, yet other games have had racial slurs up the yin-yang and nothing ever happens. Chat restriction wasn't even issued for these, it went right to ban. That just says whatever the "reporter" puts is enough to trigger the system and not the actual content of the match. Glad I only dropped $10 on RIOT, so they can keep their lunch money. Their system is badly broken and anyone saying otherwise is drinking the kool-aid or just ignorant.

For me it is a way to "nip it in the bud" so to speak. I did state that it wasn't optimal from a team perspective but if it prevents me from getting another chat restriction/ first ban as well as a toxicity chain re-action, then I feel it is for the best personally speaking.

I do that too, every other game or so, and always when I notice someone in select is a troll.

Because if I don't and things go sour in this way-to-serious game, I'm part of the 0.2% of League players toxic enough to be suspended :D Do I care? Nah, I have other things to keep me entertained. Flaming the trolls is still fun for me, and I don't even regret the ban.

But! When I mute everybody regardless of what's said or not said, I find I have MUCH more fun in the game, win or lose, and I win a lot more without wasting time typing.

TL;DR plays aren't made by chatting, they're made by pings, awareness, and teammates who have brains.

I agree with you 100 %. Then I mute everyone, I feel that I can focus on the game much more and I don't fall or I fall significantly less if my team doesn't do well. Especialy if someone starts raging, you just mute that player and all problems are gone. ^^

that could be the answer to the failed report system. mute button would take care of all of it, but instead they perma ban players that constantly give money for skins and they lose out on all the cash. makes no sense to me, mute button would be all that is needed to take care of all toxic players. but then childish people wouldn't be able to suck you into saying something you shouldn't after half an hour of harrassing you, so most players wouldn't probably leave and just let the mature adults play that don't care if some random guy gets banned or not. ya that would be too smart for riot, they would never do something that smart or logical.

Self-defense isn't automatically toxic. Just calmly responding to a toxic player with facts and not using insults or profanity, should NOT be punished. That is not the same thing as retaliating and I think the system falsely punishes both players sometimes.

I actually turned All chat off about 8 months ago and it has easily been the best decision I've ever made, not counting the decision to buy all the Anivia skins.

The stress level isn't nearly as high as it was before. If team mates starts becoming toxic, I mute them and continue playing while ignoring them the whole time.

I've found usually you can tell who's going to be toxic before they actually get there.

Most people say something negative before they go full ragemode -- if you learn to identify signs that they might be toxic and mute THEN, you still avoid the trap of retaliation while still being able to talk to the friendly players.
