Riot Please Reconsider How Your Changing Annie In The Mage Update
A bit late in responding to this, but I'll say this before the update actually happens.
"The flash bear drop. Annie’s bread-and-butter burst combo is a threatening affair that’s more about skirting the edges of Annie’s range than dodging a skillshot. While League benefits a lot from the potential to outplay most abilities in the game, having Champions with reliable abilities is also good for the game as long as they don’t make less-reliable champions obsolete." http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/3IXxdZwi-mid-year-mage-updates-annie-direction
Let's break everything down to see what's actually being said.
- The flash bear drop. Annie’s bread-and-butter burst combo is a threatening affair that’s more about skirting the edges of Annie’s range than dodging a skillshot.
Just by the nature of this intended playstyle Annie has incredible zoning potential, and after level 6 you could even say it's overbearing.
- While League benefits a lot from the potential to outplay most abilities in the game, having Champions with reliable abilities is also good for the game
So Riot's definition of a reliable ability is one that lacks outplay potential. RED FLAG ANYONE. There are plenty of abilities that are reliable and can be outplayed, I don't see why Annie needs to be an exception.
- as long as they don’t make less-reliable champions obsolete.
It's obvious that Annie does make them obsolete. While most mages struggle against the AD terrors of mid lane
Annie can actually lane against them successfully while most other mages have to play passive and struggle. There should be mages that counter AD mids and there are
, but unlike them Annie counters them for the wrong reason. Annie is only successful because she has a passive stun that's easy to get and can be held onto indefinitely and generally counters everyone.
Let me remind you Riot just recently revealed the
rework. Taric's point and click stun was removed for the obvious reason of being a point and click stun, and was replaced with a skillshot type thing, but that was a single target stun with low damage, so why is Annie who has a potential AOE stun with MASSIVE damage allowed to keep hers? Not only is she allowed to keep it, but Riot comes out and says it one of things they like especially like about her!!! Where is the consistency in Riot's design philosophy?
Riot you have the opportunity to actually balance Annie who's been one of the most frustrating champions to play against for a long time. Please don't ignore this just because you feel you have to maintain her identity as an AOE nuke machine with no counterplay.
Stop prioritizing appeasing champions player bases over balancing them.
