Why Is Galio Being Reworked?
May I ask why? He seems like he's in a very good spot at the moment. I feel like the only thing you'd need to change is his passive and shield.
I'd like to see your guys opinion on why he is getting changed.

Why Is Galio Being Reworked?
Why wouldn't Galio be reworked? His kit has so many issues, that I feel compelled to go over.
Galio's kit is split 50/50 between being a tank and a mage. And not the good kind of 50/50 like Ahri's assassin/mage kit. The Urgot kind. In Galio's case, half of his kit is largely useless depending on which direction Galio goes for. His ranged poke skills aren't particularly useful as a tank and his shield that heals when he's focused and ult that encourages everyone to deal tons of damage to Galio are Urgot ult levels of bad on a mage-heavy settup.
Galio needs to stop to cast his movement speed boost.
Galio's ult is kind of stuck in a weird situation balance wise where it's crazy powerful: but Riot gave him a monstrous cooldown and no tools within his kit to help him use it. The monstrous cooldown tends to make games hing on a very small number of plays, which sucks for a 33 minute long game. Galio wins with ~2 sexy ults or he looses because he only managed 1 solid ult in the entire game. His lack of inner-kit synergy with his ult also frequently necessitates the use of Flash for those game-changing ults, making it's effective cooldown even longer.
Galio's kit communicates several things that aren't true or are very misleading. This mainly has to do with his passive: converting MR into AP, or bulkyness into damage. This passive mainly tells players that Galio is a great anti-mage, because his kit rewards him with damage while be counters the damage output of mages, making him a solid tanky DPS champion vs. mages. This is primarily misleading because Galio tends to do fairly little damage with a tanky MR build, only really doing damage with heavy AP and fairly squishy builds. As such, Galio needs to build damage to do damage in most cases, where a very large number of fighters (Tanky DPS) can do tons of damage while building straight-tank. This passive is also misleading because Galio's main counter to mages is building magic resistance, which literally every champion in the game is capable of doing. The aforementioned fighter class is also better at stacking MR and HP while doing tons of damage to mages than Galio is in most instances as well.
Anyways: Galio has a ton of issues.
Most champions have a handful of issues and it's impossible to circumvent all the issues in any particular champion, but Galio's kit has way more issues than should. He's not really adding anything cool to the game as a trade-off for the problems his kit has.
It would be nice if Riot kept Galio's capacity to be a solid CC tank with a respectable lanning phase and being a bulky front-line champion that works reliably in mid-lane, as those are the positive unique aspects of Galio's kit, but we shall see.
I just wanted to reply to the great post. I also believed that Galio was in a pretty good place at the moment, but your well thought out post has had me reconsider.
My guess is because no one plays him. Galio got me out of Bronze a long time ago, but his Ult mechanic is based on positioning, and higher-skilled brackets--even starting in low Silver--know not to let Galio catch them in a group, or to exploit the tiny delay before his Ult taunts.
I was sad to see that I could no longer dominate in Silver with him, but I'm anxious to see what the rework does.
Where are you getting that he's being reworked?
Who?
biggest problem IMo is galio is encouraged to build tank and if i remember correctly his ult deals bonus dmg based on the amount of dmg you take in during it. So building tanky decreases the dmg it would do. unless they changed this aspect of his ult and i didnt know
