RNG and competitive play should not mix at all IMO. And the current dragon system has no place in league.

So what about this:

Two dragons at two different places , spawning at the same time offering the same buffs. That is it. No more dragons, just two. ... Now imagine when the first team takes the one... Only one left!

You need faster gamplay? Add this:

  • The faster you slain the dragon the faster baron spawns.
  • Every minute till baron spawns you get a stack that gives 5 bonus magic damage to baron.

You want to have different buffs? Or how about this:

You get to choose the type of buff in the store(once per dragon).

Or maybe if you want more effort to be involved in switching the buff: Spawn 5 komodos/spirits/eggs in the dragon pit with something like 350hp. Kill one and you get to switch the buff, if the enemies kill them they get small amount of gold. ...That will be the cause for some nasty team fights.

The point of this is that there are so many balanced solutions that will probably work better.

I am really interested to know what else have you tried before deciding on the current dragon system?

I'm a bit conflicted on agreeing with this. On one half I agree that a different system might be better for the dragons. Nothing is more frustrating than being stuck with 3-4 air dragon kills, and no other dragon type will respawn due to RNG.

However, to say RNG has no place in competitive mode is false. RNG exists in a lot of other ways outside of Dragon. Crit relies on RNG, as do other damage numbers. RNG exists in other competitive games too, even MMOs when it comes to combat (World of Warcraft is a big user of RNG in their combat system). Nothing is ever 100% predictable or calculated in competitive games, so I just wanted to point that out.

While RNG is acceptable in competitive play and does add a level of surprise a "clutch" plays, I do agree that the dragon system should be tweaked. Elder Dragon to me is a pointless objective when the game usually spawns dragon buffs you dont need or are considered weaker (air in my case). I rarely get infernal dragon, and only seldom get mountain. My games were usually flooded with water and air.

I hope they tweak it in the future, but I don't mind the RNG aspect to it. I just wish it was balanced and that all dragons gave a buff equal in power rather.
