Here's My Opinion on Pyke and What Should Probably Be Done
So, one of the new "cancer" champions is Pyke, and while some people find him more frustrating than others, I think we all can agree that he does need changes. So, first, I will highlight the main issues Pyke presents.
-
For a champion with high kill pressure in lane, he has too much sustain.
-
Between his W and E, he is just as slippery as a leblanc; yet, he arguably assassinates better than leblanc.
-
His ult, despite being one of the strongest ultimates in the game, it requires little skill input from the player, besides maybe flash predictions.
So here is what I think should be done to the champion.
First of all, I think Riot should revert his last set of changes to both his ult, q, and e. Because they were nerfs that targeted the completely wrong thing with the champion and I think solo lane pyke should be able to exist again after these proposed changes. The problem with lane pyke was never his waveclear, as he builds tiamat regardless, the issue was, between aftershock, the bonus health regen from tiamat, and his broken sustain, pyke could never really be soloed or pushed out of lane. The new ult mechanic allows pyke, specifically solo lane pyke, to snowball a bit too hard as well. So I think we should nerf the regen on his passive. It's okay late game, but it's way too overbearing early, so I think the base heal should be lowered, and the ad scaling on it should be increased as the game goes on, to a slightly higher value than it is currently. By lowering the base heal, it also further incentivizes him to build ad instead of tank, which is a fairly common occurrence still for pyke, even after the lethality changes to his kit.
Secondly, the cd on either his q or w, or both, needs to be lowered early game. He needs to have more windows of vulnerability, especially after he has missed his q on a target. Potentially allow the cd to scale of lethality in some way or something. He could be a champion who's entire kit revolves around lethality, which has not be introduced yet.
Next, nerf the range on his R. A champion with a hook, a fairly large gap closer, and a massive speed boost, should not have a 750 range aoe execute nuke. I'd suggest lowering it to 600 or 650. Or, make it so that he can ult targets he has recently damaged so he can't clean up a team fight for free, at least make him work for it a bit. And if we did this, I wouldn't mind slightly increasing damage a bit on it either immediately or after we see how these sets of changes affects him.
If all else fails, and you still don't want to really nerf/change pyke or you aren't sure which way to go with him, change aftershock and make the resistances it gives scale with your bonus resistances. It might already actually, I dont know, I dont play champions that run aftershock. If it does, here are some thoughts I have.
-
You can make aftershock a keystone that only gives a small amount of resistances early; however, once a person reaches a certain amount of bonus armor and/or mr, it grants more resistances than it does currently. This also gives tanks better late game scaling, which we all know, they need.
-
Allow the ratio armor/mr bonus to start off lower, but scale higher as the game goes on. Once again benefiting those who are meant to run aftershock.
Tl:dr Revert pykes last changes, nerf his early passive regen, but give it higher progressive scaling. Higher cd on his w and/or e, and make his ult have either a lower range or require recently damaging a target. Also change aftershock to be a better scaling rune but worse early.
