How good is Gragas?

I'm a silver 3 jungle main who is looking for a skill intensive character (I play a lot of Elise, Shaco, and Kha) and stumbled upon Gragas. How is he right now and is his ult the kind of skill cap I'm looking for? Seems really good with the flash body slams and pretty much a Lee sin ult. Thanks in advance!

He must be pretty damn good. Look how fed he is: https://49.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0ixt0kNeD1r88l59o1_250.gif http://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/masonry/000/073/020/gragas_dealwithit.gif In all seriousness though, he is still quite good. While he may not quite be at the same level as he was in mid season 5 (aka cinderhulk era), his raw utility combined with his survivability still makes him a game changer in the right hands.

Cinderhulk is still ok, but with runic echoes coming out....

Gragas is similar to Lee Sin, Nid, or Irelia in that if you're good with him you can outplay people regardless of how much he gets nerfed.

That said, he's certainly seen better days and if you're not used to playing him prepare to put in a lot of practice and time until you can consistently carry games with him.

Thanks. I've never had a problem learning a champion and getting good with them quickly, and Gragas seems pretty straightforward.

yeah he's good (decent early clear speed, decent sustain, strong/high damage early ganks (ganks are still strong later but damage falls off if you build tank which is recommended unless you get fed), and decent peel late game.

I wouldn't really call him skill intensive though, as yeah the ult is pretty much all there is to his "skill". And even the ult isn't that difficult, it has a huge range and a quick projectile speed.

if you really want a challenge i think Ekko LeeSin are strong but rather skill intensive characters. Ekko is very fun imo too because he can be built effectively as either tank or damage or some combination of the 2.

All three of them are skill intensive champions. Ekko and Lee are a bit more forgiving due to a combination of much higher ratios and how their kits work (especially Ekko). There's a reason they're played so often over Gragas.

There's also much more to Gragas than just landing his ults properly.

I don't really think you can get much more forgiving than Gragas. I'd say his safety level is honestly higher than both of those champions - the main reason he was so popular when he was good was because it was incredibly hard to punish him at any point of the game. Having all the defensive mobility of Lee Sin, the kiting potential of Ekko and the ability to get incredibly tanky quite early is about as forgiving as you can get.

He's pretty crappy now but he's still extremely safe and hard to punish - it's just that that's about all he has going for him now.
