Why League is imbalanced

  • Riot preaches about counterplay with one hand while with the other hand they create champions like Yasuo, Fizz and Rek'sai.

  • Riot hates fighters/tanks, but especially tanks.

  • Riot ignores champs that are not popular.

  • Riot ignores boards, they don't really post feedback besides the usual "good post, have a cookie" comments.

  • Riot promised us in patch 4.6-4.7 that they will make toplane a more impactful role, no toplaner was significantly buffed since. (except for Sion and Maokai)

  • Riot loves Kiting but hates tools against kiting.

There are countless more reasons. I think i'll keep this updated since i have no other thing to do.

Not sure with Rek Sai or Fizz myself, but Yasou loses to short range mages that don't have moves that travel such as Swain and Mordekaiser. Sometimes they wait to see if counterplay develops as we get used to said champion.

I think because of season 2

  • Riot ignores champs that are not popular.

The last set of skins were for Volibear, Trundle, Twitch, and Eve or do you mean balance wise?

  • Riot ignores boards, they don't really post feedback besides the usual "good post, have a cookie" comments.

Because most of the people who post don't care about true balance, they only care about buffing or nerfing champions they personally love and hate respectively.

  • Riot promised us in patch 4.6-4.7 that they will make toplane a more impactful role, no toplaner was significantly buffed since. (except for Sion and Maokai)

Well, they still have a couple patches to go then.

  • Riot loves Kiting but hates tools against kiting.

Once again, likely because season 2.

Edit: Wait a second...a few of these contradict each other. Like you are saying they hate kiting...but then you say champion like Fizz, Yasou, and Rek Sai are OP...so which is it? Do they hate kiting or make OP champions to deal with being kited.

I said they love kiting. They hate tools against kiting. Also, i didn't say they're specifically op, they just have very little counterplay. For example: they are not very vulnerable against kiting. I know, you have to have tools against kiting, but a little bit toned down. (khm... untargetebleness... khm...) The problem is this: Some champs have no tools against kiting, and some other champs have too much. It's a very sensitive category. Not too much, not too little. That is the essence of balance.

This is really ironic.

This is really ironic.

Yes, it's true, it's ironic. But kiting is not about killing someone while escaping. It's the escaping itself. In the good old days why was full ap nidalee so good? Not because it was useful in teamfights, not because it was a great dueler, but because a toddler was able to escape with it's smug little jump. In that way, nidalee was impossible to kill, and a nidalee who could farm got a really big pile of gold and could snipe everyone with it's huge bunch of ap. What applies to kiting applies to poke comps. It's impossible to get them, except for Righteous glory, nami wave and vi in itself.

AP Nidalee wasn't good because she was impossible to kill. It was good because she just threw Qs and it didn't matter how many you missed, if you hit 1 even a tank had to recall,, making a teamfight 5v4 for their team if they decided to fight after.

But what lead to that state of Nidalee? The 24/7 farming and gold gathering without getting killed. You don't get actual feed with that Nidalee, you just get some kills and that gets you snowballing slowly but surely. And that leads to your spears hitting as much as they do. But yeah, i just checked on Lolwiki and the damage of that shit was sick. So you have a point. But still, the fact that Nidalee was impossible to kill greatly assisted it's opness.

You have a good claim, but bad evidence. After playing a bunch of DotA-likes (or MOBAs as they're called these days), it really feels like league is an imbalanced game.

Your point that I thought was most legitimate was about counterplay. That's the biggest problem with league at the moment. Too many ways to deal damage, but hardly none to avoid it. I know that all mobas are based on player skill, but to a point, league seems to be based more on numbers than plays. Your plan can be as thought out as you want, but 3 yasuo crits at 11 minutes in will stop it either way. From what I see, the characters considered best are the ones that can put out damage and CC most efficiently. Armor and Magic resist help until they get penetration, making what you spent gold on useless. Why would a game allow 100% crit chance, but have no dodge chance? You can't avoid autoattacks after the animation, and if those attacks can do upwards of 300 damage, 750 with crit, that's bad. AP scaling is also pretty ridiculous. After a few items, Katarina can shred through champs. It used to be fine when she could be silenced, but unless you're Fiddle or Malzahar, that's not going to happen. Even if you do have a silence, what will that stop?

I have never played a MOBA where I fear the very CONCEPT of going against a specific character, like a Riven or a Wukong in lane, regardless of their player's actual skill. I'm not one to care about specific characters and their balance, but the balance of the game overall, yet many characters very clearly stand out from the rest. All of this leads to meta, which isn't a bad thing on it's own, but makes league worse with it's presence. "Adhere to the meta" Out of any moba I've ever played, I haven't seen so many tier lists. If characters are that easily put in order of usefulness, that's a bad thing. I always hear that it's about how you play the champ, and that's very true. However, if I'm running my top lane Galio vs. my opponent's Fiora, he will have an advantage. I'd have to put in alot of effort just to keep up, while if Fiora puts in the same effort, I'm done for.

I put up many arguments about league's balance, damage, meta, and all that. But it doesn't truly matter at this point. I'm not going to say that it is, but league may be imbalanced for a reason. LoL is Riot's only game. For riot to continue making money, they need players to invest in the game, to get attached, to feel like a part of the system. So, by setting new trends in champions, players will always be buying new champs. When they start winning as these champs, they'll feel good enough to buy a Skin. This process of an ever-changing game creates very dedicated players, who always wish to be "in the know" or "the very best". It also gives them a great sense of community. All of these factors combined really do equal profit.

Meta, Imbalance, and Winning keep players happy, entertained, and dedicated. And for what it really matters, that's fair.

Riot preaches about counterplay with one hand while with the other hand they create champions like Yasuo, Fizz and Rek'sai.

Assassins tend to lose out to mid range mages due to high amounts of poke. Rek'Sai is still new, haven't had much chance to figure her out yet.

Riot hates fighters/tanks, but especially tanks.

Look up "Meta Golem" You'll see why Riot is to scared to buff tanks/fighters.

Riot ignores champs that are not popular.

Such as? And do note, many champs are slated for gameplay reworks and until those are completed are left in their current state to prevent them from becoming a problem and needing to be nerfed prior to their rework.

Riot ignores boards, they don't really post feedback besides the usual "good post, have a cookie" comments.

Much of the boards, in general gameplay and balance, is mostly whining threads where people demand that their favorite champ be buffed while all counters be nerfed. Very little actual balance is discussed on this board.

Riot promised us in patch 4.6-4.7 that they will make toplane a more impactful role, no toplaner was significantly buffed since. (except for Sion and Maokai)

You missed Malphite &JarvanIV but you may still have a point in that the jungle ended up taking a higher priority along the way, lets hope Riot remembers the island and does something to help it remain in the game.

Riot loves Kiting but hates tools against kiting.

Now you're talking a tricky balance. I think it would be best to get a Rioters opinion on just where Riot wants that balance to be, not where WE think it should be.
