Riot doesn't think things through. This has become rather obvious by now yes? They just design champions to be "cool" with no regard as to the effect it will have on the game or how it will actually be played.

He isn't both, he is one or the other. You either make him a tank, or an assassin.

Not necessarily. He can start off with assassin qualities going runeglaive into aby, but wind up going full tank from there and be really quite durable. Ekko main here. I should keep my mouth shut.

wtf since when did Shen ever have assassination qualities?

He doesn't.

There was a chat some time ago regarding Shen wherein someone was suggesting Shen get a little more Assassin-y when Riot does some work on him. A Red (Meddler, I believe?) responded that the combination of high mobility/target selection with durability and strong CC could be somewhat frustrating to deal with.

But then Ekko came out a few weeks later.

Which makes me curious if the light remake Shen is getting will push him more in the secondary Assassin direction rather than the secondary Fighter direction.

Because Ekko was a mistake. They intended to make him an AP assassin, but ended up making him a better AP tank. Now I'm guessing they are discussing internally if they are okay with his new, unintended identity. I personally find tank Ekko to be one of the most annoying things in the game at the moment. Tankiness, constant slows, and respectable base damage, all combined with that ult is beyond obnoxious.

Ekko isn't intended to be a tank. He's utility assassin.

Ekko isn't intended to be a tank. He's utility assassin.

Giant heal, giant shield, potent AoE slow, AoE stun, and ample mobility combined with some of the most versatile zone control in the game sounds an awful lot like a Tank to me.

Ekko isn't a utility assassin, not in the least.

He's a control assassin.

Utility would be stuff that directly or indirectly augments the effectiveness of his team members. There's nothing in Ekko's kit that helps his team in that fashion. He's got zone-control out the ass, though.
