AP mages > Assassins
AP mages have been too strong since Season 6 and are currently actually better at assassinating than actual assassins are.
With assassins all getting various nerfs, the AP mages as usual stay the best champs in the game.

this is not the place to say the obvious. This place is full of entitled mage mains that thinks prenerf rylais, zhonya was a fair and balanced item
"AP Mages" is a rather broad term...
Maybe if CDR was more difficult to come by, they'd be more burst-focused rather than have ridiculous DPS to the point where they hardly have any windows to kill them. Look at 
, if she's even slightly ahead, you're basically screwed already. She, like any other mage in the game will spam her Q abilities every 3 seconds thanks to 
which laughs at any bit of mana "cost" they previously had to worry about while granting a shit-ton of AP, CDR, and for some reason, grievous wounds < 35% hp.
Syndra has a ranged super safe assassin ult. And also packs gr8 aoe CC and dmg with a ton of range and safety.
IMO, ap's mages should pay for their safety by universally sacrificing their late game scaling. In an even game, there is really no comparison to what a relatively safe to cast Brand ult combo can do vs. what an assassin can do.
