Is there REALLY a counter to mid Morganna?

Hahahahyena··19 votes·4,421 views

I've been playing the farming, pushing, and snare simulator also known as Morganna into literally any matchup. shes basically my backup pick when i dont know what to play. Ahri Push lane, she cant clear very quick early Akali Morg ult can actually see through invis shroud. Anivia push Annie black shield, roa, push Azir push Cassiopeia push, black shield ult Diana push and harrass, black shield if she all ins, dodge q Ekko push Fizz black shield is your best friend so is zhonyas Heimerdinger put puddle under turrets and minions at the same time (he has to put turrets near his minions or else they wont attack minions effectively) Jayce push Karma push, stand behind minions, black shield Katarina black shield, ult her if she e's you, abyssal Kassadin push Kayle push Kennen push, stand behind minions Leblanc abyssal, roa, black shield, push Lissandra push, black shield Lulu push, black shield Lux black shield her q, push Malzahar black shield is so good against anything he does, push Orianna push Ryze black shield, roa, abyssal, push Swain back shield, push Syndra push, black shield Talon now apparently this is the #1 counter to morganna but he really cant do much when he cant slow you plus zhonyas basically negates anything he really wants to do and his ult invis is useless when morg's ult goes through invisibility TwistedFate push, black shield Veigar black shield is your best friend, push Velkoz black shield, push, roa Viktor push Vladimir push Xerath push, black shield Yasuo push, zhonyas (or just seekers armguard really) Zed zhonyas, push Ziggs push Zilean push (now of course theres always the harrass but that goes for every matchup for any laner) Now there's the inevitable time where you can no longer out push your enemy laner but that's ok because all you then need to do is put your puddle down and go roam or if youre like me bring summoner 12 to the mid lane and watch as your mid laner weeps when his bot lane gets double killed or their top lane just lot their advantage as they cannot rotate as fast. My build path is item 3001/item 3157 (if im against ap or ad) item 3158 item 3165 item 3152 (for 40% cdr) item 3157 (if i dont have zhonyas already) item 3116 item 3089 (if i can fit it in)

Yes, there are plenty of counters to Morgana.

Hopefully you will soon realize that countering a champion doesn't exclusively mean killing that champion a bunch or denying that champion minions.

win lane win game

junglerboy169 votes

Until you fall off really hard late game because of your mediocre scaling and the fact the enemy laner can kill someone else on your team instead of you.

Silver Fluffenbu2 votes

how are you gonna kill a teammate when you don't have the mechanics to win lane?

junglerboy1612 votes

Winning lane isn't about mechanical skill bud. Morg is a hard core lane bully and if you are playing at an equal skill level, the Morg will invariably win lane, regardless of your mechanical prowess. Just because she counters you early doesn't men your kill potential isn't good later in the game, especially against champs that you counter (for example, Annie gets countered by Morg, but is incredibly strong at AoE bursting teams, and since Morg can only shield one person, Annie will be able to stun and kill at least one squishy later on).

Sammystorm3 votes

Your misusing the word lane bully. Morg is not a lane bully. She is just very very safe.

Sirsir8 votes

No shes a bully. She autoshoves lanes, sustains off it, and then you have to play dodgeball while also farming under turret (generally hard to do mid lane)

disregardable12 votes

A lot of the champs on that list are not necessarily counters but they're champions that benefit from going against her, ie Veigar, Malzahar, Orianna. Champs that can clear just as fast and scale well into late game with farm. They're the champs you don't want to bring Morg into, because they benefit just as much from your playstyle as you do.

MrBuffington4 votes

Morg mid was my most played last season (not that I really played too much, <20 games I think), but this is basically the problem I had, getting outscaled later vs certain champs. Many times I would still win just through the utility Morgana offers, but her damage is more difficult to get off later in the game. Luckily, a lot of people underestimate her damage since they always see her as support, so I'd get a few more kills than I normally would

The Sword Saint8 votes

She's not supposed to be countered, she's supposed to be a safe mid pick.

insaiyanbacca6 votes

you srsly said to push vs a malz? you know any decent malz is impossible to push against right? anyway countering morg isn't about winning lane since she is very safe early, winning vs her is about farming as much as you can and waiting till late game when you can deal with her once she blackshields someone else or kill someone else on her team. personally i prefer a karth pick into her, he can waveclear just as fast with e and q and his late game is god-like along with his map presence once he hits 6. and generally one isolated q on morg with blackshield will pop it, while once i finish my first two full items on karth blackshield will mean nothing cause its not beefy enough to deal with anything i've got.

Xenomancers2 votes

this guys knows what hes talking about ^ sadly morg is typically used as a counter pick or we would see a lot more karthus I think.

insaiyanbacca3 votes

yes, but honestly i don't see why karth isn't picked more then he is currently imo he's super fun and he is decently strong tbh. but yeah i've played against enough morgs to know what it's about and how annoying they can be.

I would say Nocturne can work against Morg. His W is just a big fuck you to her Q.

pE4CbxDPQO1 votes

I imagine in order to get much done vs her he has to walk up. So unless he plans to .03 react to her ult he is gonna get ulted. She can basically hold q forever in that matchup.

Hahahahyena2 votes

plus morg is always pushing and unless noct wants to take minion harrass as well as puddle harrass he isnt going to egt much done... plus she can black shield noct's fear

Hahahahyena4 votes

her black shield is a big fuck you to nocturne e as well

Space Bum5 votes

You left out her counter Zyra

I can say the same for zyra. I never "lose lane" with zyra. It's just a question of how I will play the lane because she has such a safe range on her abilities. Morg is the whole reason I picked up zyra because she counters morg and 2 years ago everyone was playing nothing but morg and Annie sup. I now play her mid.

Amelie1 votes

I never understood this, considering Morg can puddle Zyra's plants from a safe distance and kill them very quickly. Morg can also shield the snare/ult from Zyra, ruining her burst combo. I've always taken Morg (or Brand) into Zyra because it's so easy to nullify her harass by killing the plants fast. Do you use some other tactic?

Space Bum1 votes

In a 1v1, head to head, if they both landed their full combo with each having equal items, morg might come out on top but Zyra is a zoning monster and will just poke you all day. Black shield has a much longer CD than grasping roots, if black shield is on CD it's not safe for morg to be anywhere near zyra

Killing Zyra's plants fast is a meh strat especially right now because they will get off at least one auto each. So you are going to eat a Q 2xplant autos and a thunder lords proc, no way around it.

Amelie1 votes

That's true, and I haven't played the matchup in the Thunderlord's Era yet..

BakedLotion5 votes

it's funny how "push" is your argument for everyone. Any champion can push. Zed does that shit faster and more effective than her. Also, why complain about morg when shes the least problematic champion lol

Drugoth2 votes

Lol Nami can't push. It's a nightmare to clear a wave with Nami.

Heavy roamers and hypercarries perform good vs Morgana.

LB (one of the former) roams a lot more effectively due to her mobility. She has means to shove the wave as well as she usually goes 3 level W first.

On the other hand, hypercarries outscale Morgana late game, so a farm fest benefits them more. Veigar will happily farm his Q until he reaches ridiculous levels. Dont get me wrong, Morg is a beast lategame teamfights but most come from her utility as her burst is heavily delayed. Some will have better burst(Like Veigar) or more pew pew (like Cass, Swain).

Few can reallywin lane vs Morgana (hey Varrus!) but a decent amount of them can win the game. Most times the problem is they focus too much into killing the enemy laner.

Sammystorm2 votes

I would argue that roamers are a bad pick into morg. If a champ roams on morg there turret will be taken and if the roam is unsuccessful they will come back into lane with a huge disadvantage to Morgana.

Odinakos1 votes

While i agree that leaving a push champion alone is a bad idea, a decent gang bot(by decent i mean at least forcing bot to recall) can lead to greater advandage like a tower (Morgana cant take hers with just a wave) and a dragon. That will leave mid open to gangs and rotations. In addition that all top roamers (TF, LB, Zed) have a way to shove the lane back and they dont care playing the farm game since they scale better.

Also keep in mind that Morgana has decent but not instant clear (like Victor or Zed) and that can punish her a lot, especially in siege situations.

I do agree thought that she is a very safe champion to play mid especially along with a hypercarry or triple threat comp (that usually soloq does because top must carry bro). In fact i consider her best to transition from support to mid along with Annie(more risky better kill potential).

Sammystorm1 votes

I guess saying it as a for sure thing is wrong. It is a risky thing to roam on a morgana. Basically it is taking a gamble. You are gambling that you will be able to make up or exceed the loss in Mid lane in Bot lane or Top lane. It depends on a variety of factors and usually just ends up with the roamer sacrificing their lane to win another.

Odinakos1 votes

It is always a risk to roam vs any champion that has one aoe, the point is that Morgana is not the greater punisher as her clear is slower than what you expect of a heavy pusher(compare her to Victor eg). So heavy roamers are not that much of a handicap against her especially if they have clear tools and can play the farm game to outscale her. Not arguing that she cant punish but not on the scale of Victor knocking on your tower with a full hp minion wave.

Not to mention that Morgana is a complete anti-LeBlanc champion.

Koldheartedjsp3 votes

the problem is is that the morgana player after a certain point can just drop a w, return to tower and fap, then come back to drop another w and finish fapping

once they get a little ap and like a 4 w its gg bye bye interaction

doombotMECHA2 votes

vik does the same thing with ap+e, and scales better.

Gigahappytown3 votes

Called literally anyone with mobility as they gank side lanes for easy kills and snowball the game out of control.

She's a safe pick mid. Her burst is lacking compared to other mages though. Utility mid pick.

Ziggs Yeah her shield will block a few bomb. JUST THROW MORE WHOOOOOOOOOO.

Sirsir2 votes

Morg loses out hard to Yas. He can match her push, Windwall her Q, and that just leaves ult which he CAN wiggle out of with E. I mean Yas will never get to ult but he shouldn't NEED to.

Akenero2 votes

Basically to beat her... Dodge snares Besides that, she has one cc, her ult, which qss beats, and gives mr! She also has trouble with insane range, so lux and xerath are good against her, also fizz fucks her

Project omen1 votes

Yasuo can do pretty well vs a morgana. His dash with 2 stacks can break her black shield if she has one point in it, he can windwall or dodge her bind. All he has to work around is her W, which she will probably use to push the lane. Not to mention Yasuo can farm easily under tower.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Ha. I've played and destroyed many Yasuo's with Morgana. Never of any of them have been able to break my shield because they only dash once on me and bam they are snared. A good Morg will push him with her Tormented Soil so he has a harder time to farm because it will break his passive shield if he steps in it not to mention the damage. Some have been able to get off a tornado and ult me but they were never able to kill me.

I have a funny video of a very awful Yasuo that I went against as Morgana, and he would type in all chat OMG HOW DID YOU NOT DIE and stuff in chat when he would die and I wouldn't lol. It was after a play he made, which he got his two stacks up to have his tornado, he threw and I absentmindedly walked into it (I sometimes do that), I shield myself immediately as he ults (keep in mind I had turned back under the turret by then), so he's ulting me UNDER MY turret, I ult and snare him under it, he ignites me after he lands but I just combo him and bam he's deleted. He then results to asking us to report rammus because he never ganked and cause he keeps dying to me lol. Here's the link if you want to watch XD

Most mid Morganas put one point on their E and leave it there until later on. Many Yasuos max their E. The latter can actually break the shield of the former with a stacked dash and knock her up. My strategy is when she uses W on the wave, she pushes it. So I have a chance to poke her without pushing the wave and let her zone me. I dash close to her and poke her, windwalling her Q, then dash out. If the enemy jungler is missing, I don't get close to her post 6 unless I can escape her ult or survive it/kill her. Worked for me so far.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

Well that's the thing, a long time ago I used to max W second after Q but now I max E second, so I usually have more points in it so they can't break it even if they wanted too. I bait out his windwall and then snare, go all in or whatever. But rarely any Yasuo has gotten the upper hand on me as Morgana.

It all depends on the skill of the player behind the champion, but a good player can absolutely do well against Yasuo and kill him.

BigDaddySenpaiii2 votes

You have to be on another level do deal with a somewhat competent Yas. And once he gets a vampiric scepter he's going to push you out of the lane. He's a nightmare to deal with but he hardly ever kills me.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

It took me a while to deal with Yasuo, but I eventually got very good at Morg. I also can now say I have gone against pretty good ones and they could never kill me in lane, and if they ever did kill me was probably in a team fight and I was low health or something of the sort, or got caught out, or he and his jungler decide to sit in the bush and camp, etc.

Xenomancers2 votes

Morg is my go to vs yasuo. Competent or not - there is nothing yasuo can do to kill you. At the very least you can miss your spells - take some damage and back. Normally though the reverse occurs - yasuo takes so much damage from W and minions that he has to back 2-3 times without ever having a chance to kill you.

Project omen1 votes

A Yasuo with experience can poke Morgana almost anytime he chooses. Allow me to clarify:

  1. What? You're gonna bind me? Face the wind.
  2. You 're gonna use W on me instead of the minions? I shield most of the damage and get lane control.
  3. You use it on the minions? Go ahead. I can push the lane too, sister.
  4. You're gonna use your black shield? I'm gonna break it with my fully stacked dash and/or statik shiv. Basically all Yasuo has to fear is her ult. And even then, he can just flash or dash out, provided there are minions nearby.

Edit: I have faced many Morganas mid as Yasuo. These are the 4 senarios that have occurred so far.

Xenomancers1 votes

Nah - morg shouldn't be anywhere near you. Cast W when yasuo is in minions trying to get last hits - auto proc of thunderlords which is more than enough to get damage through and it clears most the wave. Yasuo life starts to fall and lvl 6 all in is totally viable at that point. Theres literal nothing yasuo can do to stop this but miss CS. Morgana can even go agressive and break his sheilds with autos if she desires - Yasuo can easily put some damage on her if she does this but they are both flirting with death in this case. Morgana is usually content to stay safe at tower while yasuo the easiest mid to gank in the game is mid lane.

Full stack dash? Okay whats to stop morg from maxing her sheild?

Project omen1 votes

Most mid Morganas put one point in their E and max it last, whereas most Yasuos max their E first.

I play TF into Morgana I push with Q + Red card and then I ulti to pressure another lane. Unless she takes Tp, she cannot follow.

SH Azykan2 votes

pretty much every morg is going to take tp mid. her kill pressure doesnt rely on ignite (and if you see a TF, you are definitely grabbing TP). also Morg can drop w on the wave then follow you and throw a q at you when you try to ulti to stop it. She'll get the caster creeps and denying your roam on tf is way more important than the melee ones.

Tf does have the advantage of his cc being targetted, but this is a perfect example of a lane that is decided by macro play rather than mechanics. Neither win lane, and both want to create advantages for the rest of their team to win the game. (also if a jg shows up TF is dead, where morg can shield his gold card to get out)
