According to Google, smurfing for the purpose of manipulating matchmaking is cheating.
https://ibb.co/BT12k9z Unless your smurf is the same MMR as your main, you're fooling matchmaking to gain an unfair advantage. That's cheating.

And guess what? Nobody is smurfing with the purpose to manipulate matchmaking. Your definition is off. Your main account doesn't gain anything from that.
Urban Dictionary has different worded definitons with the same meaning: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=smurfing
They also have nothing to do with cheating. Once you reach your true elo with your smurf you are still stuck on the same page as your main account. Cheating would be scripting.
Also like it or not, smurfing is a bad excuse for people who are stuck in silver/gold (like me). There aren't as many smurfs as you think there are in your games.

I'm sure some are. And it may not be the main reason but every single smurf is doing this when they play games out of their ELO by playing on a smurf account. Every single video seen here https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=road+to+diamond+league+of+legends+ is some loser ruining tons of games for low ELO players just so they can make a video of them stomping players out of their league.
They also have nothing to do with cheating. Once you reach your true elo with your smurf you are still stuck on the same page as your main account. Cheating would be scripting.
And until then you're tricking matchmaking into handing you easier games. AKA "acting dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination". Just because it eventually stops working doesn't make it not a thing.
Also like it or not, smurfing is a bad excuse for people who are stuck in silver/gold (like me). There aren't as many smurfs as you think there are in your games.
I'm not worried about smurfs ruining my games. I'm still climbing whenever I have time to play. I just hate seeing stuff like this https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/league-videos/39kiqoZh-1-ranked-lee-sin-na-smurf posted right here on the boards where someone openly admits to smurfing. There shouldn't be anyone admitting to smurfing because smurfing is cheating and admitting to it should get you banned.
Yet again, those "some" are so tiny that it doesn't even bother, only the ones that search excuses.
And again, it is not cheating because:
Sorry but your arguments lack power. They have no meaning towards rules and are based on feelings. I started playing ranked in season 4 and played from bronze to high plat, yet I "missed" those smurfs. Once in a while, yes they are present but not to an extent in which I say "I lost because of a smurf. I can't climb because of smurfs."
Also to end this, Matchmaking KNOWS if you smurfs when making a new ACC. The game literally places you with people that understand the game and that are, undoubtly, better than low elo players. I tried it years ago and it is still the same (probably, I don't play on smurfes).
Yet again, those "some" are so tiny that it doesn't even bother, only the ones that search excuses.
And again, it is not cheating because:
- They play according to the rules
- They land at the same spot as their main ACC
- They literally have no advantage to none other player except that they are better. When I am placed in silver/bronze after placements I rofl stomp the enemies too.
Sorry but your arguments lack power. They have no meaning towards rules and are based on feelings.
Your arguments are based on your personal feeling that, based on your personal experiences (anecdotes), smurfs are not a problem. My arguments are based on the definition of cheating and other provable facts.
Also to end this, Matchmaking KNOWS if you smurfs when making a new ACC. The game literally places you with people that understand the game and that are, undoubtly, better than low elo players.

2)You repeat yourself and I am done here with explaining why you should stop making such shitposts. It also exists while placements, season resets, DuoQ, FlexQ.
3)One should improve by losing and becoming better. Playing against better players will help them adapt. No matter which elo. I didn't climb from bronze to platinum because the Riot gods took all smurfs out of my games, I actually improved and stomped these so called "smurfs."
You don't have any definition other than that for cheating. Contrary to you, I put up a defintion of smurf and compared it to your definition (googles definition) of cheating and said why it's not the same.
Riot Mirros confirmed it, Smurf detection. There are other posts/sources but that is the fastest I could find because I really don't want to put more time into someone who is too dense to understand basic english. And you should feel ashamed that someone from EU has to say that.
As you can see, people don't necessarily agree with your post, as shown by up- and downvotes. You can't possibly think you are in the right anymore, can you? Move on, make a hate post against Yasuo or Zed. Would suit your ELO and is actually understandable.
And with that, I wish you good luck against those insane amount of smurfs you face and hope you once will reach your dream elo like many other people achieve.
- Your comparison lacks. I hope you understand that. I don't even have to say why it lacks. It's straight up dumb, honestly. A better comparison would be: An undercover chess champ playing against someone who just learned the rules AKA smurf vs noob.
No, it wouldn't be a better comparison. Because the purpose of the comparison was to demonstrate the fact that "rule-breaking" and "cheating" are not the same thing. Of course, a proficient English user such as yourself already understood that. You're just being obtuse rather than admit that you're wrong.
2)You repeat yourself and I am done here with explaining why you should stop making such shitposts.
I repeated my rebuttal to your bad excuse for cheating, "They land at the same spot as their main ACC". As if cheating is only cheating if it continues to work indefinitely. Obviously the long term effectiveness of an exploit has no bearing on its acceptability.
It also exists while placements, season resets, DuoQ, FlexQ.
And again you attempt to conflate matchmaking being wrong due to it's own limitations with matchmaking being wrong because you purposely caused it to be. Surely a master of the English language such as yourself knows the difference between those two things, so why equivocate?
3)One should improve by losing and becoming better. Playing against better players will help them adapt. No matter which elo. I didn't climb from bronze to platinum because the Riot gods took all smurfs out of my games, I actually improved and stomped these so called "smurfs."
Your brag about climbing to plat is clearly an attempt to derail. Reminder, your original point #3 was:
They literally have no advantage to none other player except that they are better. When I am placed in silver/bronze after placements I rofl stomp the enemies too.
To which I pointed out the obvious difference in intent between being new to ranked and using smurfing to fool matchmaking.
Also:
Also like it or not, smurfing is a bad excuse for people who are stuck in silver/gold (like me).
So either your brag just now was a lie or your previous claim to be stuck silver/gold was a lie.
Riot Mirros confirmed it, Smurf detection.
Assuming the implication is true, and Riot does have a system or systems in place to detect smurfing and place smurfs with other smurfs, then that's evidence that Riot doesn't find playing outside of one's ELO acceptable. You know... the thing you'd like to pretend is okay just because it isn't against a rule.
As you can see, people don't necessarily agree with your post, as shown by up- and downvotes. You can't possibly think you are in the right anymore, can you?
Argument ad Populum. I didn't downvote you by the way. I like that you posted here, because it allows me to dissect the various pro-smurfing arguments without seeming to be attacking strawmen. Nope folks, no strawman arguments here. This is actually how smurfs justify themselves.
By deflecting, equivocating, and lying.
Go ahead and walk away. This argument no longer serves a purpose. Your dishonest argumentation has already damaged your viewpoint's credibility more than I ever could.
Obviously, my english is shit, which is why I said "someone from EU had to say it." But this to the side.
I have no idea how to format like that so I will go through your answers one by one, like before.
I admitted in countless discussions that I am wrong. I don't mind admitting that I am wrong. PER DEFINITION OF THE WORDS CHEATING AND SMURFING and by the amount of smurfs I have seen in the game over 5 years, I can say without doubt that there aren't enough smurfs to disturb the ranks of low elo players.
As I said I explained why it's not cheating (no gain other than that some silver players will cry about one game out of 50+) I won't repeat myself here. Smurfing doesn't provide any benefit. No low elo player will face the same smurf in 2 games in a row, heck no player will face 2 different smurfs in a row. Be it on the enemy team or on your team.
Matchmaking won't boost their main accounts, matchmaking won't be fooled. People who deserve to climb WILL climb. Like it or not. Otherwise people would be rofl stomped by all these dia+ smurfs and would be stuck in gold, which isn't the case, is it?
I didn't lie. Check my history of past seasons and this season and count the games. I am pretty much hardstuck in gold until the last 2 weeks of the season and hit platinum. I just got to my gold 2 promos by sweating for 2 days. People usually make fun of me ingame that I have something like 400 games and still gold or smth.
You can believe Riot, you don't have to. We don't have to discuss the credibility of Riot here. The protection is maybe only for normals since everyone has to go through the same ladder at the beginning of a new season.
"This how smurfs justify themselves" is pretty much assuming that I am smurfing (which you can see on my history that I am not.)
I would like to know which part of my argumentation was dishonest. I honestly see no lies there. Would be nice to point them out rather than saying that I am lying or whatever else you are assuming. I just did what you did: Picked 2 defintions from google and counter argued.
Btw, I don't care about upvote or downvotes. I am mostly downvoted here on the boards anyway because I don't share the commoners opinion here.
I admit that this part: "As you can see, people don't necessarily agree with your post, as shown by up- and downvotes. You can't possibly think you are in the right anymore, can you?" is unnecessary.
On the other hand, if you're a diamond adc player making a new account to play mainly jg on, you have to start in high silver/low gold - you have to get through gold/plat. It's not like they can immediately start in diamond elo.
which I think is totally fine, because you got to diamond playing adc. You might not be ready to play a high-level match on a brand new role. Climbing the ladder to true elo on the secondary role is perfectly reasonable.
Alot of the time people make smurfs to play / practice another role, The reason for this is because someone who is Diamond as a Mid might not be diamond as a jungler. and alot of people complain saying "oh why doesn't he just play it on his main account then?"
Because if your off role isnt as high as your main role then you are actually hurting all your teams that you play with as well as yourself, you are just not gonna perform well at all or end up feeding hard. this is why people create smurf accounts for the most part, some create smurfs for OTPing a certain champ but tbh i haven't seen those since like season 5. but as far as "manipulating" ranked i dont think anyones trying to rigg ranked games through smurfing
That only applies to if you are duoing or using the smurf to boost another account. If you are solo smurfing, it is just as hard if not harder to hit any mmr on a smurf than it is on your main.
Might i ask.... how is it different than if someones main lost many of their pre-rank games and gets placed lower than their rank from the previous season?
It's different in that you didn't choose to be placed into games that are beneath your skill level.
That's very cute
Correct
Smurfing is CHEATING. No matter how many English essays you guys try to write about defending it. You are wrong. A diamond player makes an alternate account for no other reason (unless he's banned), To have an easier time. It's a fact you can not deny, and IMHO breeds the majority of toxicity for the game.
Smurfing isn't "dishonest", it's not like someone is lying or doing anything to get an edge, nor is it unfair, in the context of the definition you're citing. Sure the player may be more likely to beat you, but it certainly isn't unfair in a way that they "cheated" you. No lie they tell gave them an actualized in game advantage over you. They have access to everything that you have in the game, they're just better players, plain and simple. It's not like they're playing poker with an Ace up their sleeve or something.
Essentially, you're taking the word "unfair" out of context with the definition because it suits you. Smurfs don't have any "unfair" advantage in the game. The game is a fair game, they just play better and, as a result, will beat you.
So a player creates a new account so that the matchmaking doesn't know their true skill level, and assigns them easier opponents... And you don't see an intentional deception going on here? It might not be a "lie" to purposely withold pertinant information, but it is deceptive.
Essentially, you're taking the word "unfair" out of context with the definition because it suits you. Smurfs don't have any "unfair" advantage in the game. The game is a fair game, they just play better and, as a result, will beat you.
So in your mind, a match between unequally skilled opponents is "fair", so long as they get access to the same tools?
So then why does matchmaking try to minimize the skill imbalance between teams?
If Riot had your extremely narrow definition of "fairness" then it would do no such thing.
Diamonds vs Silvers? Perfectly fine! They have access to all the same champions and items don't they? Let 'em battle! It's a fair match!
Yes, that is ridiculous. But that's the position you take when you try to pretend unequal skill isn't an unfair advantage.
