If Malz was reverted assassins would have a counter again

Title. The main reason I loved Malzahar (pre-rework anyway) is because he was always a mage that was a solid pick against any assassin.

I think the main reason why assassins are running rampant is because there is nobody from the class that they counter that counters them (if that makes any sense). It's genuinely accepted that most assassins counter most mages (save for maybe Vladimir and Heimer who have safe play styles), but Malzahar was always the mage that was known as the true assassin killer.

Assassins were dominant in season 3 before Malzahar's rework. He wasn't a top pick in either solo queue or organized play. So even in the biggest assassin meta of all time he was not relevant pre-rework.

How is he not anti assassin now? I thought that he was anti assassin because of his ult... which remained largely the same. Plus he can still shove a wave pretty proficiently.

Malz can kill assassins now. The only difference is people buy QSS to prevent it more often. If Malz was reverted, he'd push E and there would go half of any champion outside of a tank with full magic resist. He needs an ult change. That's all.

It's true, malz's damage was reduced in favor of the minion spawn active. The problem lies with how yasuo requires qing a minion twice in order to be ready for an all in, zed requires nothing and malz needs to get a spell off, summon voidlings, use his DOTS on the champ then ult. Instead of 1 or 2 moves then you're in.
