@Riot : Wouldnt the change to support items be too efficent on non supports?
Let me collect my thoughts here, There is a lot of things I would like to point out. But in order to keep it easy to read, I will be breaking them down in bullets.
Lets talk about game design, and the idea behind vision Someone at riot pls correct me if I'm wrong
-
Vision is a very powerful tool in the game that allows information to be obtained information = strategies = coordination = good team fights = power spikes.
-
Clairvoyance was removed from the game for either being too strong, or not strong enough.
-
Ward limits are in place to prevent domination the game with vision, and red trinkets also have a cd limit, to make the game interesting and fun while also providing a way to counter vision strategically rather then permantly.
-
I would like to say it is safe to say, vision as a whole is something that riot wants to balance carefully
Now lets talk about the current meta
-
There is no defined way you have to play. All champs / roles are free to explore there own strategies to help there team win as they please.
-
Sightstones cost a item slot and offer very few stats, which may not be efficient for non support champions
-
Because of the new runes and keystones like kelptomancy, gold generating items also giving Bandit passive. Non supports have been taking support starting items such as Relic shield, ancient coin, and even Spell thief's, in top, adc and midlane roles.
-
Damage is higher because armor / mr was removed from runes, meaning starting damage items are less relevant in the grand scheme of the game.
Now here is the question I would like to ask riot if someone would be so kind to answer me.
If you take the current design of the game, and say that anyone can buy any first item they choose ( except jungle items ), that would efficiently mean that current support items are good on anyone as they way they are now.
Considering that mages suffer from the "I'm too bad to play in this role, but good enough to play other roles " epidemic, which is what allows certain things like brand support. It would make sense that allowing non meta supports, should have a chance to be viable vs these hyper carries by not limiting there item pathing.
But with that being said, that logic also works in reverse. When support items become too good, they no longer become support items, but general items. And league players, without set boundaries will usually outsmart the game given new tools.
TL:DR What I'm saying is this. I am not questioning wither or not the design is good, but if it is practical. From a players perspective it seems to be that the design wasn't thought through fully, and its what prompts me to ask.
Are you ok with non support champions having a sightstone regardless if there role position. And if you are, how do you feel about a full meta where all carries have a visionable item without loosing gold / stats because of it? And do you think that this design is a contradiction to the current design choices you have implemented? (Ward limits, lack of clairvoyance spell, trinket limit, as well as the item active cd being removed.) That is my question to whoever reads this that can answer me truthfully at riot. Thank you in advance

Honestly most of the support items are still overtuned from last seasons fiesta, but when support items are weak you notice a significant drop in support players (leading to more autofill etc etc).
