How Much of Meta is People Not Thinking Creatively?

I can't help but think that a lot of the time, people just kinda latch onto this idea of "meta" without really analyzing it and thinking about ways to interact with it. They treat the game very reactionary instead of pro-actively.

Just played a game where we were favored to win 55.4% by lolskill.net, which should have been an easy win but the other team was victorious. Why? We had too many killers on our team, and all they could think of doing was kill champions.

I totally feel this.

It always sucks when your team is way ahead in kills but they keep on going for kills and trash talk instead of taking objectives.

I think it's more along the lines of people see some pro player do well with a build, and they automatically try to jump on it and get the easiest possible wins before it's nerfed. Look at the new korean lucian build. Every Lucian player is building it now.

I think the real problem is that people are so bad at this game, that they need every single unfair and OP advantage to try to help them get a positive score. I try to steer clear of the 10 OP champions that are "meta" in pro play, because 1.) I feel like I am gaining more skill when I beat these OP opponents with something that's not OP. and 2.) I'm not going to try to milk every advantage I can JUST to have easy games.

So everyone who abused Ekko pre-nerfs (even though he's still a top 3 pick and too strong), Kindred players, and people of the like all are really trash and I can't wait until your champs are nerfed into the dirt and you have to figure out how you are actually going to win a game without abusing OP champs.

tbh I'm not even sure how "OP" some of those OP champs are.

Take Kindred for example, while her early game is strong and she has good scaling, she's a pretty poor teamfighter and doesn't really do too hot in 5v5s or ALL IN GOGOGO style of fights. However, getting your team to capitolize on that weakness is triccky.

My problem is with people entirely misunderstanding what the meta means, at least based on the context of the conversation. It's not really the meta that forces a Marksman to be the ADC bot you guys, try to figure out why.

HOLY SHIT THIS.

One time we had 2 adc, mid and jung. So I go bot Gragas w/ Nami supp. We wreeeecccked despite flamers on my team.

But another time I try the same thing, a guy decides to queue drop rather than risk his precious META.

I think it's because people are afraid their team won't follow up. If you do something proactive while your team is all just farming lanes until the river and jungling, you won't likely accomplish much. You need your whole team to work together for being proactive to work in most cases. But if the enemy team is all pushing something, you can clearly tell being reactive is better than just farming.

We know it's better to be proactive but with random teammates it feels so hard to get them to agree to do something proactive too much of the time. People are always farming and recalling and stuff like that every time you want to do something.

I hear this. I do think that using pings and the chat to communicate will go a long way to help people improve and learn what to look out for.

I think Meta has a lot to do with expectations.

People know how certain strategies or champions operate so they are more easily able to make it work. Where trying original strategies could result in resistance, or at least hesitation, from your team

So who do you think is innovating and developing a meta for people to react to?

It tends to be the best players in the game who develop the meta, and a lot of it is, in fact, thinking creatively, be it through an unorthodox build that then becomes the strongest meta build (tank Ekko, and most recently Youmuu's/Black Cleaver Lucian), or from using champions in ways Riot didn't really intend (once again, top lane tank Ekko, as well as bruiser Yi).

Your words are contradictory and meaningless. They are reactionaries toward the game? That means that someone, somewhere, is being proactive in making a new meta, or at least developing the current one.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

I don't see why the best players are the ones who develop the meta.

like, real talk, supp brand was a "troll" pick in bronze/silver waaaaaaaay before I ever saw it in a tournament.

the meta is whatever is tanky while still being able to output in sane damage Ekko Volibear and whatever counters said tanky championsVayne Kindred . tanky DPS has been a problem in this game for a long time and its never going away.

people don realize that the reason and only reason Kindred is so strong is because EVERYONE stacks HP, including mid laners.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

If that's the case then Amumu and Sejuani should be seeing way more play.

Also I feel your argument is kind of what I'm talking about.

Volibear is countered hard by poke and kite while Ekko is extremely reliant on his skillshots for his dmg and tankiness (particcularly his shield/stun).
