I really don't think even Deathfire Grasp was this bad. As soon as you get this item you are an unkillable monster who dishes out insane damage with no CD. Pretty bad...

Nope, sorry you are just wrong, DFG was fundamentally the most broken item ever released, no questions asked. First buy on every AP champion regardless of role because it did Max health damage as an active item while also giving stats comparable to Rabadons for way cheaper! Shojin is like a 3rd or 4th buy on the few champions that can utilize it, its really not that bad.
This used to give crit btw.

What's worse is they're nerfing Riven's E ratio to where she pretty much will need this item now, when they could have nerfed Conqueror in a way where it didn't impact other champions much while impacting her just enough to where she wasn't broken.

DFG was considered bad because every AP user who dealt damage wanted to buy it. Basically a global pick up if you were a champion that was usually in range for the active.

as a JAx main i should say every game that i go spear of shojin i lose . that item is so shit on jax.(maybe works in low elos?) its too expensive (3400 gold) and if u go shojin on jax u are super squishy . yes no one can 1v1 u but u are completly useless in fights and mages one shots u and u are always low on mana . i never go shojin on jax . TOP rivens dont go shojin too they rush Death Dance and Black Cleaver. That item makes champion only duelist and compeletly useless in fights and its too e xpensive . i think the only ( THE ONLY ) spear of shojin user right now is 
which he is too squishy too and if get hit by one CC in team fight he is done or if he falls behind in lane he is done . if u are against any spear of shojin USER just force team fights and watch him how he gets melted before he can use his abilities for second time.
Not as bad as every mage/ support getting to 40% CDR at 15-20 mins and removing everyone else from the game by chain CCing them to death.
Feral Flare made all 6 ban slots have to be used for junglers when it was in the game. Got to a point where junglers were taking TP and getting homeguard enchantment early just to stack it faster. Only survived 2 patches before being gutted.
Honestly you can never have enough Spear of Shojin removal threads on the front of the boards.
It is a awful item in terms of balancing but there was other 1 item (except dg which we don't talk about) which was more broken and that was atmas impaler for anyone who remembers.
No there have been worse BUT it is very bad right now
