I love the elixir items. I feel its level restrictions and power budget is a great tool for your needs when behind. If you buy it, you put yourself behind in getting items, but get a temporary power spike mid to late game, and makes for a useful buy when you have no slots open and extra gold to spare. I feel they are underused, but I feel they are great and the cons to them balance the large power spikes they offer.
