Sterak's Gage needs to be... changed

So as we all know, Steraks is largely being abused by a wide variety of champions that it should not be, and is very strong. most of these can STILL POP THE SHIELD.

Grants STERAK'S FURY upon taking 400 - 1800 (based on level) damage within 5 seconds (45 second cooldown). UNIQUE – STERAK'S FURY: Grants increased size, +25% additional base attack damage, and a rapidly decaying shield based of 30% maximum health for 8 seconds.

now your thinking... 1800 damage at level 18? they wont have any health to pop that! well, let me tell you that based on my understanding, the cost to activate the shield buff increases by 77.8(rounded) HP per LVL. Wanna see a complete list of people who don't gain at least that much per lvl?

Here:

  1. Anivia +70
  2. Annie +76
  3. Brand +76
  4. Cassiopeia +75
  5. Hiemerdonger +75
  6. Karthus +75
  7. Leblanc +76
  8. Lulu +74
  9. Mordekaiser +73
  10. Nami +74
  11. Shen +73 (Why?)
  12. Sion +73 (Can stack health)
  13. Sona +77
  14. Vel'koz +76
  15. Zilean +71
  16. Zyra +74

Gnar is not on this list, but his mini-form would be+65 However, mega is +108.

Notice its widely Mages, and support mages. and shen. why is shen so low.

NOT A SINGLE ADC FALLS BELOW THE THRESHHOLD(fun fact, the lowest lvl 1 hp is Anivia with 467.6)

HENCCCCEEE every single adc and person who can abuse it can use the shield if at full health.

this is why its abused.

My suggestion:

Make it so theres a HP base restriction, like warmogs, have at least 3000 health to activate the passive, this should help.

either that or nerf Max hp for the offenders... looking at you graves and quinn.

Edit: I noticed that unless you have 0 health, the +400 from steraks will provide the base 400.

also thanks for explaining the she situation to me! makes sense.

So many posts complaining about ADCs being able to use Sterak's when it's so much worse on them than it is on the champions it was intended for.

The problem isn't ADCs using Steraks. The problem is that ADCs don't have an item BETTER THAN STERAKS FOR THEM.

How in the world is an item which gives +30% HP shield and +25% base AD abused by a champion with 1978HP (plus 400 from Gage, so 2378) and 95 base AD when it's meant for a champion with 2101HP (plus 400 from Gage, and likely 500 from Dead man's plate and 500 from Banshees Veil, so 3501HP) and 114 base AD.

We're literally talking about a champion using a suboptimal item (it's gold efficiency is horrendous on anyone) that's meant for another class of champion, and complaining that said champion is abusing it, rather than complaining that they don't have a better alternative.

This is literally people hating on marksmen. There's nothing wrong with Steraks. It's strong on the champions it's meant to be strong on. It's not strong on other champions, but they're using it anyways because it offers what they want most after their damage (the ability to survive burst). Give ADCs some better items to survive various forms of burst damage, and I guarantee you they'll stop building Sterak's.

Valid, However its not supposed to be for everyone just saying, heres a big shield, and some bonus ad. I think the problem is that people like steraks BECAUSE it gives both AD and its a survival item, unlike titanic hydra, which was made to empower tanks, this one is a general to buy on the AD champs survival list.

I would be interested in your new defence item for adc, banshees and guardians angels remain virtually unchanged since steraks introduction, so steraks was clearly better.(Guardian angel actually is got buffed significantly for squishies).'

Im sorry if the post sounded really whiny and sarcastic, if it did, I just wanted to make a suggestion because I saw a connection between the HP requirement system that would balance well with steraks.

NOTE: I DO IN NO WAY WANT STERAKS TO BE WEAK. THIS CHANGE WOULD EFFECT NO TANKS OR ORIGINAL USER INTENTIONS.

In all honesty, any of the following would work:

  1. Let the player choose whether to spawn with GA at base or at location of death. Bam, it's instantly a survival tool (as right now 90% of the time the passive is wasted as you die as soon as you spawn).
  2. Make an item with the following: some armor decent health Unique passive: Taking lethal damage gives you a mini - Tryndamere ult, making you immune to death for 2 seconds AND applies a self silence. Massive cooldown. This item might be OP although I'm hoping the silence keeps it in check.
  3. Item that gives flat health, with active: grants a rapidly decaying shield for X times your total AD. Medium cooldown (like 90 seconds).
  4. An armor equivalent to Banshee's Veil (I DO think Banshee's Veil is perfectly adequate, the only problem is that against an AD assassin, or even an AP assassin who has strong AD damage dealing allies, it's not a great choice of defensive item - sometimes you want the spellshield but not MR).

The Ga will be abused by tanks imo with TP, bam, full HP tank is back. (BETTER FOR TOPLANERS)

the tryndamere ult... I like it, but it should maybe kill you in the end, like yoricks ult, so if you die, you can finish the job.(MY FAV, BEST UTILIZED BY MARKSMAN)

the scaling with AD shield sounds bad, because pretty much anyone can get away with it, and god knows what zed and talon would do with that. (COUNTER INTUITIVE, AD ASSASSINS)

Armor equivalent of banshees... well only upside to that is it blocks spells, one spell, which for most assassins doesn't matter. its just going to be a niche pick that will not be used over GA or any other health armor item, because that passive is going to cost the item a lot of armor or health or gold cost, because its strong. Its a little too... everyone should buy it kinda thing, becuase its gonna be used against ADCS too. (COUNTER INTUITIVE, ADC COUNTER ITEM)

Fair points, it's what I get for only taking a moment to think of these items.

For the GA you could change spawning at base to spawning within 2000 range or something (e.g. a mini TF ult)

I potentially agree with the change to the second one. It could also work like a Sion passive (so the ADC can make it last longer while lifestealing while dead). Although it could still be OP.

The AD scaling shield could be changed to crit scaling (although Yasuo, Trynd...), or AS scaling, or Lifesteal scaling, etc...

The armor equivalent of banshees is meant as a niche pick against AD assassins, or a niche pick against stuff like Blitz hook when the other team is AD heavy.

Shen Has very low hp scalling because of his passif. If you build full HP and you proc it 3-4 time in a teamfight, you have a total of, lets say, 7000k HP. Oh and, he has a dodge.

You need to understand your champion mechanic to do so tho.

Oelyk1 votes

Oh, never thought about that... then say people with shield like riven should also have lower health growth? those shields are massive and often... I'll have to look, but shes not below the 77 Hp per lvl

yea I 100% agree. Not only is this item a little crazy on bruisers, but I've been building it on ADC's in many situations with great success.

Meep Man1 votes

The reason Shen is so low is because he is one of the most mobile Tanks and his passive is extremely strong, basically giving a skilled Shen bonus health.

ADCs aren't supposed to survive burst damage.

They're squishy, glass cannons. They pop when an Assassin jumps on them.

The game isn't just 'build an item to solve your problems'. You need to outplay the Assassin in the first place. Stick with your support. Janna completely nullifies burst. Don't go alone. Ward your jungle. Stick to the backline. And, again, stay with your allies. You're the ADC, you carry the game. Your allies will support you.

ADCs have one item that counters burst. Guardian Angel. Sterak's isn't supposed to be that item.

I can't tell if you disagreeing of agreeing or just general commenting... but I like it!

I still think if you build enough for 3000 health, it should give the shield. Cause you obviously care enough to survive.

Shield is now 50% (weaker overall) to 75% (about the same as live value at 4k health) BONUS health.

Done.

Oelyk1 votes

does it scale from 50% to 75% from what values? bonus health? like 400 would be 50% and like some value 1000? be 75% that would be interesting but also a overall nerf to steraks users all around until they hit that value(4K)?

No, either scale with 50% bonus health or 75% - depending if Riot wants to nerf it or not.

The only change sterak needs is the shield is halved for ranged.
