Rune pages are blatantly overpriced for what they provide

Oelyk··110 votes·2,689 views

Edit #5: This is in the header because people are getting the wrong idea THIS IS NOT A RUNE PRICE COMPLAINT, THIS IS A RUNE PAGE PRICE COMPLAINT THREAD

Honestly, 6300 Ip for a single page is not okay, It is like buying a whole nother champion in that price category.

I mean, you get two to start with, for a plethora of different champions, how ever many there are now, and you expect me to pick for two pages? i have four now, but they are for AD casters(Jayce, Riven, Assassins ect), ADAS (Gnar, Jax, ADCs), My funny Ryze page(generic utility mages), and my "Dank tank" page, which is just left over runes...

Thats four, but I often wish I had a more defined ADC page, an AD caster page with lethality, an actually carry mage page that doesn't use CDR, MS, and has actually a few AP runes. Because I do have runes for those just no pages...

Can we get them for a bit cheaper? 6300 is to steep and with the new autofill, Im often at a loss when forced into a support/jungle role and am extremely dissatisfied using a page I cant edit or change for a champ I need to to play.

Im even cool with a bundle for newly level 30 players for a one time buy thats like 2-6 new pages for a reasonable price for those who are going to start playing ranked, I mean, its a page, why so over priced?

TL:DR I bitch out high rune page prices. Pass the lemonade.

Edit: The argument to "just spend money" is invalid, as a game were P2W is not to exist, Buying rune pages with RP is a form of unfair advantage(even if small) to newer players, And this bugs the living daylights outa me.

Edit #2: I am aware Runes are pricey, but thats not what this post is about.

Edit #3: Okay apparently I need to write a TL:DR of my arguments

  1. Rune pages are overpriced for the value they provide, they are blank sheets, and we need those to write with.
  2. Because they cost so much it is more appealing to buy more champions for newer players than to buy more pages to provide the variability for multiple champions
  3. It is essentially an unfair advantage people can gain(through RP too!) for a wider champion pool. Not just for ranked(but mainly because its competitive) It effects every stage of the game by a little bit.

Edit #4: Im going to add, they give us 20 free mastery pages... Why not more Rune pages? It's just a page, not the actual runes.

I have a basic ADC page and a basic Mage page and those got me to Gold while playing a variety of roles. I wish I had the IP to afford another page and a whole set of tank runes but.........champs. I would love the price of pages and runes to drop thou 😁

You've played since season 3. You're just now complaining about rune pages because you only have 4 of them. Tell me more about all those champ you've probably bought and don't use? Secondly, each season rune pages go on sale for 2 for the price of 1 for both RP and IP so you have no excuse for not owning more by this point. Poor IP management would be my guess. Probably bought runes that don't matter, and to add to that if you wanted standard pages for cheap tier 2 runes are 1 IP and don't give to much of a disadvantage that personal skill can't cover.

Your complaint in your scenario is invalid, for new player sure, but in your case it's not. 1300+ normal wins on top on Co-op Vs Ai and Ranked.

Also you don't need a ton of rune pages to succeed. Don't be fooled in to thinking because you have more pages you'll be better.

Oelyk5 votes

Harsh words, but I speak not for myself, but for the entire community, especially those who have played for shorter than I, who still only has 4 (I bought 2 for RP during the 2 for 1). I don't even own all the champions yet after all this time, and you have the audacity to flame me for making a thread on something that is true?

Just because I am semi-excempt to my argument because I have more IP due to longer time playing, does not mean my argument is invalid, and no one deserves it. Think before you speak.

You very specifically brought light of your own situation with your 4 runes pages and how you would have liked to have a more robust arsenal. This speaks directly towards your situation. I can scroll up and quote you if you'd like? It may be a problem with new players, which I stated (appreciate the unwarranted downvote for the reality of the situation).

But the reality of your situation is just that which I stated above. You have zero reason to be in this situation. Secondly just like owning every rune, rune page, or champion doesn't correlate to your skill. You should find the champions that best fit your play and gear your runes for them. You can own every champion in this game, but that doesn't mean you're going to be good at all of them or frankly even play them.

Take a moment and think about all those champions you own that you probably rarely use. You probably use them as often as they come up in to free weekly rotation. Players should own the champions they enjoy and like to player for ranked. Tailor your pages to those champions, play free week champions to try them out or have fun, and then work their way to buying the ones they actually want to own.

Lastly, you do not need to own every champion, rune, or rune page in this game. There's nothing that even warrants doing so unless you want to collect them. You don't see people in their ranked games playing every single champion for a reason.

Oelyk2 votes

Hmm, it is true that I do use my self as an example, and I don't expect every player to have such a mucked up champion pool as I do, and I will not refer to myself for further discussions. Maybe I just opened up to much room for thought.

Let me ask you, do you think 6300 IP for one rune pages is over priced?

What really brought this on is the new autofill brings us back to season three where you need a champion for every lane, and now with autofill you do have a slight chance to get a role you don't have a rune page for especially for the many players who only have two, where it worked in the old pick two get at least one. I have no problems with actually auto filling, mind you, But I feel unprepared to play certain roles that I just said I wont mentioned myself. fail.

Anyhow, why so much negativity? I don't think its a bad thing to be critical, but to just hate to hate is unproductive and really just not a favorable thing.

I wont bother responding after this post, but I am interested in reading your response... TO THIS COMMENT. **_ Edit: I thought I was being sensible and calm about this, but arguing will get me or you no where, I respect your opinion and politely disagree with your rationale.

Some full rune pages cost like 11-15k IP.

Yeah, so . . . like 150 games? For my rune page? OKAY.

Oelyk2 votes

Runes are a bit pricey, but what bugs me is that rune pages BLANK TEMPLATES are overpriced. It limits your champion pools potential...

NoobLearninGame4 votes

Better yet wait for a Double Bonus RP sale (preferably $100 worth to get the most benefit from the bonus), then use that RP to buy Rune Pages during a 2-for-1 sale (you could save up some of your IP too so you don't have to buy as many pages with RP).

Then use the rest of your money to buy skins when they're on sale for at least 50% off, or if you're impatient like I was with my first account buy 6300 IP champs when they're having a 50% off sale (think it was 475 RP when half-off). That's how I maxed out my Rune Pages, bought most of my skins (except those that don't ever go on sale), and got almost all of the most expensive champions (which saves the most money because it's the best RP conversion compared to cheaper champs), on my 1st account.

For my two smurfs (which I've been slowly leveling over months, getting 1st Win of the Day IP whenever I can in Intermediate Bots, or Beginner when below level 10 [after that you get 15% less IP/EXP, and it goes down further at certain levels]), I only plan at this point to use what the game gives me for free. I only made the smurfs because I want to try champions and roles (like mid/adc) that I've almost never played in PvP, at an ELO that isn't super high compared to my skill with those champs/roles.

Playing the main champs that I use on my main account on my smurfs would be pointless, since it would likely be too easy, and I'd end up with a higher ELO than I want from winning too often, again creating a situation where I can't practice champs I'm new to at a level more suited to my abilities. This way I can increase my usable champion pool (in that I'm somewhat competent with them) a little faster.

In Normals I tend to actually end up playing against guys who are in a higher ELO than my Ranked tier, so it can sometimes be harder than a Ranked game, on my main account. Once went up against a Master ranked Fizz at toplane with Nasus. I wasn't playing well during that day anyway, but I sure got spanked.

If you know what you need, and spend your IP intelligently, you can get everything you need fairly quickly, at least for a new player. To me, it's not so bad, for a game that doesn't force you to pay to play. We used to have to get 2x the EXP to get to Level 30 until some fairly recent patch in Season 6. I've played other free-to-play games where the grind to be effective was far worse, even if they weren't pay-to-win, but more like, pay to have what you need faster. Pay-to-win is obviously terrible, but you could only classify a game as that if it takes an obscene amount of time to become competitive, or if you literally can't get certain overpowered items/abilities/whatever without paying.

We need five free rune pages......one for each role.

Wouldn't that be nice!

Right. Five roles...

Juggernaut, Warden, Vanguard, Slayer, Battle mage.

For a while, Faker's smurf account (hide on bush) used only two runepages. According to www.op.gg, he upgraded to three. All you really need is an AD page and an AP page. Anything else is a luxury.

Oelyk4 votes

I hate to say this to you, but Faker is not your average player... He is a well-known mid-lane main that is a world champion level player. And I don't know his situation or reasons behind choosing this, But I do know those runes are for AP and AD carries + the new one which looks like an assassin page. No where is there a support or tank pages.

I respect that you believe that you only need two pages though. If thats how you prefer to play, that is fine.

Melledoneus1 votes

Not to mention it's a SMURF, meaning he's far above the level he's playing at. He doesn't even need runes to win with his skills.

AttackOnTeemos1 votes

You do even NEED RUNES or pages until you HIT level 30 anyway. That's what I did and every other "Smart" Person should have done.

You if you can buy a skin you can buy a page. Even Then unless you going in RANK TECHNICALLY 1-2 pages is all you really need to begin with. It's not like you can't use an unfinished page as you build on to it as well. Since most people don't want to play more then 1-2 roles there isn't a need for 4-5 pages. (unless you are me and have too many damn pages...)

If you playing support I mean really that's the one role where your pages don't really...mean nothing if you doing tanky support o.o

Oelyk7 votes

You if you can buy a skin you can buy a page.

P2W is not the point of the game.

Since most people don't want to play more then 1-2 roles there isn't a need for 4-5 pages

New ranked system may force people to play roles they don't have, and no one is gonna spend 6300 for more pages as a new player when their are champions to buy.

If you playing support I mean really that's the one role where your pages don't really...mean nothing if you doing tanky support o.o

this is an exception for the angelic people who play support. Love your support.

LiveYiOrDieHard : You've spent about 1.147 hours on League of Legends which means 48 days of your life.

Totally reasonable amount of time to own the bottom fourth on the pricing list of the champion pool and just enough rune pages to go with most of them.

it takes months to assemble a good rune page.

Or people could just stop whining and spend the money they would normally use to stuff the next 3500kcal of fat into their bloated bodies at a fast food restaurant garbage-disposal-center, to buy some RP instead.

That would help both their health and their game.

Although what you said to the comment I am replying to is true in some sense, what you said before to warrent Flyinguillotine's comment was not the same way of expressing your opinion. It was a bit crude, including offensive vocabulary such as fat, bloated, and whining, an generally deriving people in a negative state is looked down upon.

and now for my own personal opinion: People need to eat, they don't need to spend money on LOL to get the resources they need to create rune pages for champions they play. I refuse to judge people for eating foods that do not benefit the body besides taste and calories(you need these to move!) and you should not either, we live in 2016.

I don't deal in peoples opinion, nor in peoples enjoyment. I deal in facts.

If they want the sugarcoated world, people can go back to facebook, where there is no "Dislike" button, and a nice filter bubble protects them from all the big bad opinions they don't wanna hear.

And one day they wake up and find themselved without healthcare and ruled by a Reality TV person.

People need to eat, they don't need to spend money on LOL to get the resources they need to create rune pages for champions they play

If someone has the time and freedim to spend hours playing videogames, then shortage of food is almost 100% not a concern in that persons life.

I have met and worked with people from regions where people struggle to maintain even a minimum calorie-intake / day. Most of them never even used a desktop computer in their life.

I refuse to judge people for eating foods that do not benefit the body besides taste and calories(you need these to move!) and you should not either, we live in 2016.

Given that cardiovascular disease has overtaken cancer as the No. 1 cause of death in almost every developed country in the world, the way I see it, we have 2 choices:

  • We start telling people that filling their bodies with cr4p is a bad Idea, or...

  • ...we better start inventing some floating chairs, double time.

things like runes and champions ought to be free. I'd prefer it if runes didn't exist at all, myself. they're outdated and inflexible.

I would rather have runes still, they are very good for covering on champions what you can't compensate with items or their own base stats.

For example, I need those CDR glyphs to play Vlad because I really need to play him with 40% CDR. With 10% CDR runes, I can buy Ionian Boots, a Kindlegem, and a Fiendish Codex, and have 40% CDR. If I were to not have runes, I would have to get another CDR item to reach 40%, and this would hurt my final build for Vlad.

I use movement speed quintessences on a bunch of champions, like Nasus, Trundle, and Cho'Gath, because they are really slow naturally and have no mobility.

Many junglers need armor runes to better survive the initial clearing.

I don't want runes to be removed completely for those reasons. The stats they offer are necessary. They can serve to compensate for stats you can't get with your build or with masteries.

Big Lincoln1 votes

The game can be balanced around runes being removed, honestly.

I'm more annoyed with the fact they haven't changed at all despite being so horribly imbalanced. There are so many runes never used, for some reason runes aren't equal across the board (AP glyphs =/= AP reds, a lot of quints are just plain shit, and so on.)

If riot's not gonna take the time to balance around them, why even have 'em in? They'd probably have an easier time just removing them.

YumaS2Astral1 votes

This game could be balanced around runes not existing, but I think that at this point, it is almost impossible to do that. The game was already deeply balanced around runes existing, removing them would be a disaster.

This would be like removing Flash; At this poing, the game was already completely balanced around this spell existing; removing it would make tons of champions straight up unviable and would require massive changes on most champions to make up for its removal.
