Possible Azir nerf/change next patch 8.9 (Pls don't do this)
This is a video by a famous League youtuber Redmercy. You can see the Azir
change in the video at 4:48.
Personally, I think this change is absolutely horrendous and probably just utter stupidity from the Riot balance team, and I would assume many of you or the people in the comment section of that video thinks so as well. I usually never post stuff on the forums but this change has convinced me to do it. I may not have a voice in this community at all but I would love to see people boycotting against this change. If you don't want to watch this video, basically the change is to get rid of the AOE damage by the soldiers and the soldiers can only do damage to one target at a time, sounds terrible, right? And to be fair it probably is.
Seriously, this change may lead me to quit this game. Azir is one of my favorite champions in the game and I'm sure Azir mains main him solely because of the uniqueness of this champion; being a mage but with an ADC playstyle has made Azir one of the most picked/banned mid laners in the professional scene. Unlike most other mages Azir can single-handedly swing a game back to the team's favor, solely because of his massive AOE damage with his soldiers and can give the team great reliability on winning late game team fights. I knew that Azir has already been 'reworked' back in 2017 which increased this champion's win rate and made him playable once again, but now due to the changes to other mid laners Azir went to an awkward spot in the game once again.
Riot seems to do this very often: fiddle around with a bunch of other champions to make them work, but at the same time ruining the champions that were in good balance. They will then change the champions that they've ruined, ruining the champions that were fixed before, and the cycle continues. Due to the fact that there are over 120 champions in the game, this style of 'balancing' has created a thing called 'meta' which means only a group of around 30-40 champions will be viable and the other 60-80 champions will be either brokenly overpowered that they will be banned pretty much every game(reworked Zac, for example, juggernauts back in s5) or extremely underpowered that they cannot be played e.g. the old Yorick, Nunu in preseason, Old Urgot, reworked ryze (>35% win rate in solo queue) etc. There's a common Ryze meme about his reworks, and doesn't that ring a bell for you? A champion shouldn't be reworked this many times while most other champions didn't get reworked at all.
NERFING SINGLE CHAMPIONS ARE BASICALLY GLUEING PAPER OVER THE CRACKS. YOU ARE ONLY FIXING THE SYMPTOMS AND NOT THE ROOT CAUSE.
Now going back to the Azir change, Here are my predictions:
-
Azir can be very broken and overpowered since this change will almost definitely change its playstyle to one of those burst mages playstyle e.g Viktor and Syndra, but personally, I can't be bothered to play him because I solely played him as an AP carry.
-
Azir becomes too clunky for the players to play since I have no idea how the change can work out, wasn't the soldiers made to do AOE damage? What's the point of changing it to single target then?
-
A forgotten champion: Azir loses its originality and becomes a not-as-good version of another champion.
Sorry for maybe reacting badly to this change because I really love this champion and I don't want to lose him. I think it's about time to do a complete change to every champion in the league instead of nerfing single champions which creates metas. League of Legends shouldn't have metas which limits the fun of this game. Every champion should be equally powerful so all of them are viable in the game. When this game was first created there was only about 10 champions, and people always play those 10 champions because they are all on the same power level. This should be the same concept when there's 140. I know it's difficult but it's the only way to bring back the players that we've lost in the recent months. Have a good day.
