don't she's still nerfed into the ground
You chose a relatively bad time to start playing nidalee. In her main role, she's at one of the lowest winrates of any champion in any role.

She's also about to get buffed again.
Each of your damaging human abilities lower the CD of your Cougar form Pounce (Her W).
Space them out and get used to timing your Pounce after you lead a jungle monster into them
You use her heal before you start a camp if you're missing HP because it raises your attackspeed and you will want it to be off cd as quickly as possible either leaving the camp or going into the next one.
Other than that just don't miss spear too often when you try to gank. Abuse the heck out of red buff slow when you have it to make hitting spears easier. You do not always have to lead with a spear
Edit: Another couple quick tips I can think of is when you use your entire rotation and the enemy flashes away, immediately switch to human form for the increased auto range if you can't continue chasing because of a tower or something. The second tip is you can cancel your cougar form q animation with a well timed Pounce. That may need some practice but it is a mechanic you can use.
I have gotten to where I an doing exactly as you said. When clearing a camp I try to kite around a bit in human form then q, r, unleash cougar combo, then back to kiting if its not dead already.
as for ganks the problem im having is if i miss a spear i feel like i just wasted my time going to whichever lane im at.

Just practicing it is all you can do. It's missile speed is really slow and that CAN mess people up when they're trying to dodge.
I actually wish they would speed it up just a small small amount. Or raise the minimum damage. I think if the missile speed or minimum damage was adjusted she would come back into the spot light.

Well, the current Nidalee buffs are: Base health increased to 540 from 511.2 Bushwhack (W): Traps are now invisible - can be found and destroyed. Traps have six health, with melee hits doing three damage and ranged hits doing two. Destroying traps grants 10 gold. Now only 4/6/8/10 (at levels 1/6/11/16) traps may be active at once. Primal Surge (Human E): Base heal value increased to 35/55/75/95/115 from 25/45/65/85/105
will the traps act as wards now? I heard they might but wasnt sure if it was confirmed.

I'll have to get back to you on that. I have a PBE account but haven't tested it because... Ew, league of legends 2k17 LUL
Eh. I prefer to play who I enjoy playing. I dont really worry too much about meta. I mean I can still delete people with her if im not lagging and can land spears. I agree though she is pretty weak atm.
The way I see it if I can master Nidalee while she is at a low point then I will be that much better with her when she gets a buff or rework.

I hope any of those helped.
Around this new meta, she does decent enough damage, but she is just so squish. You will need to kind of float away from everyone and try to avoid the enemy jungler while sneaking camps. Trackers knife is better for her than stalker's. If you miss a Q for a gank, get in another position(ie. Jump the wall to tri-bush) and toss another. If you have no luck, then leave. She is at the point where anything that looks at her bad can kill her stat. Go away and gank another lane, then another, then get blue again and repeat.
Always have blue. That means try and steal the enemy blue as well.
You can solo drag at around lvl 10
Her spear cuts down her leap cd, so try and take advantage of that while being chased.
Instead of thunder lord, you may want to go Stormraider because of the added chase potential and also kite on squishies.
In team fights go behind walls instead of with the team as you are squish and the spears are harder to see.
When clearing, heal, throw spear, place trap underneath, quickly leap and couger combo, aa, then leap again(as the trap's delay resets the extra leap damage), turn back, heal, q, and repeat. This is the best method I know for a clear.
Where you would have gone Rylai, now it is better to go Lichbane mid game to allow more turret pressure.
Always try to throw the spears diagonal instead of directly at them(besides when they are unaware).
Never couger combo unless you know you will win.
