How about giving turrets an aggro system?

It's relatively simple, instead of towers attacking the first enemy it sights, instead you can make towers smarter. As it stands right now, if you play something like Swain top lane, and you're up against Akali, let's say you're back at your tower, and the enemy jungler Sejuani comes to gank you. That jungler just has to hit you 1 time under turret to make it tunnel vision on them, and the squisher and much more threatening Akali can then start chunking you down like the turret was never there to begin with. I propose that turrets should get smarter, so depending on the actions the enemies take the turret will determine who's the best target to focus. This also adds a new way to play around them, instead of just doing the "you hit him first and then I go in after" strategy.

Every point of damage and CC you deliver to an enemy champion puts aggro on you, the enemy champion that holds the most aggro will be attacked by the tower. Leaving tower range and reentering will set your aggro to 0, but immediately pumps back up to your previous amount if you damage an enemy champion. All aggro is reset when the turret hasn't been in combat with champions for a short time.

So this way Swain would be given more time to react, as Sejuani would have to deliver a full rotation before it's safe for Akali to do her combo, or she'll be focused down by the turret and Swain. It requires better plays as a tank to take up the aggro as well for your teammates.

Think theres a significant clarity loss there for when the tower is going to attack who, and doubly so if theres multiple champs under attack within tower range.

Aggro juggling under the current system is a skill that I think is probably fine. Towers themselves maybe need an upgrade so the juggling is more important and/or the towers don't straight up fall, but the aggro system as is seems fair enough.

Towers will focus minions and then champions; when they begin to target champions they will target the closest champion to them, and then 'work their way' through them as they die / leave tower range.

Towers will switch targets to the first enemy champion to take offensive action against a friendly champion within / just outside of their range, and will remain on this target until it cannot be hit anymore (untargetable, leave range, die). At which point they will revert to their minions > closest champion cycle, until another champion takes offensive action against a friendly champion.

Towers will never de-select a currently targeted champion until it becomes a non-viable target (death, leave range, untargetable).

It's honestly quite simple, not sure where the "clarity loss" is.

That's the current system you described.

OP Wants to add an additional aggro factor, so the tower would switch focus based on damage/cc done, so it would deselect the tank and switch to the carry under some circumstances.

Or... you could just learn to play

There's nothing you have to learn about these towers. This is an alternative to increase the strength of towers without increasing potency.

Learn when to make the call to give up a tower and/or give up your position and avoid the dive.

You cannot be serious? You gotta deep ward to see a dive coming in the early game.

You should know how vulnerable you are. You should ask, if the jungler comes, can they kill me? Ok, where is the jungler right now? Where was the jungler last seen?

This is why tower diving is potent. To make you think about those things.
