If Taunts/?/Mastery spam is allowed then why not insults?
It's just words, only someone mentally weak would give them power and you can always mute the player, psychological warfare is also important in obtaining victory.

Why emote spam or insult someone? Only children do that sort of thing.
Two can play at the baseless assumption game.

Emotes and Insults tend to upset people and not just children/Immature people just use it, you have grown men who do it for fun as banter or use it as an edge to tilt someone or throw them off, that alone can bring a huge success if the person is insecure about themselves or mentally weak.
The goal is to put someone on tilt, yes? That goal is to emotionally compromise someone by using words. If what you said was true and only the weak willed are effected by it then either League has an exceptionally large number of weak willed players or very few people have a strong enough will to remain uneffected by simple words.
How much power words have varies depending on how they are used, who they are being used on, and the particular day the target has been having. It's not a matter of willpower.
That said emotes and taunts are not at all like insults. Insulting another person is just showing your lack of respect for not only for your opponents but for the spirit of competition as a whole. It may be done by grown men, but adults can act like immature children.
Don't be a child, act your age and respect the game. Keep your mind games about the information your opponent knows, don't rely on a crutch like insults to carry your games.

you do state some interesting points Emotes and taunts are also fitted into the insult category because you don't care your opponent is feeling and want to tilt them, that alone is disrespect depending on how it's taken. what you said also is true but It does take willpower or desensitization to also not be affected by words. It's not really a crutch, it's just taking advantage of the fact that you are being affected by someone who most likely lives very far away and told you "horrible" things.
The key here is the in game emotes and taunts do not have meaning outside of what we give them ourselves. The mastery emote only shows what mastery level you have, even though we can see it as BM or an "I'm so good" statement. You're putting a blank statement out there and letting your opponent fill it in.
A direct insult in chat already has meaning. Riot has said we are allowed to type things in chat that are meant to tilt our opponents, we simply have to remain respectful while doing so. Just type stuff that has little meaning on it's own, and let your opponents make it insulting.

like i said you can always mute the player, but why can't you tell someone they look like a wildebeest or play like a boosted loser?

Because when you do shit like that you're creating an enviroment that isnt what riot wants for healthy play. Jocular jeers are fine really, you wouldnt get banned for comparing someone to an animal, unless it became incessant.
The real issue is when you take the time to talk shit and engage in whatever you wanna call calling someone a bonobo, you're ultimately playing the game less.
