Remake Essence Reaver? Remake Essence Reaver.

What this item is supposed to do: Provides offense and HP/MP sustain to AD castery champions

Why this item fails at what it's supposed to do: No mana sustain until it is completed, requires BF sword making it rush or nothing if you want that mana sustain when it is relevant, only sustains off basic attacks, directly competes with other (better) lifesteal items for use, directly competes with Muramana in the mana department and totally loses on both the mana and offense front.

So to that end, I'll suggest here two potential remakes for the item that I suspect would provide it a unique and compelling niche that sets it apart as an option from Muramana and Bloodthirster.

Reaver the First item 3114 item 1037 item 1053 Provides AD, CDR, MP/5 and: UNIQUE PASSIVE: You recover 10% of the damage you deal as HP and MP, 1/3rd effectiveness on AoE skills

Reaver the Second item 1053 item 3134 item 3010 Provides AD, CDR, Mana, Armor pen, HP, Valor's Reward, and: UNIQUE PASSIVE: You recover 10% of the damage you deal as HP and MP, 1/3rd effectiveness on AoE skills

Both options (in slightly different ways) provide a champion with an early source of mana regenerations (Valor's Reward and Idol's MP/5, respectively). The first version could be completed a lot earlier than the second, though the second is clearly more slot efficient and has a beefier early game with Catalyst. Most importantly, both new Reavers now offer something that no other item does, Spellvamp for AD champions, something the game has been sorely lacking for quite some time.

So what says you, GP&B? Which version looks more attractive to you? Or do you favor the gross old Reaver with its completely counter-intuitive build path and CDR outta nowhere?

Spellvamp for AD is something Riot did try a while back. It didn't go well.

They tried it exclusively on Twisted Treeline when Bruisers ruled the roost on an item that was basically a super-powerful Brutalizer.

Of course it didn't go well.

The Red Elixirs have shown pretty handily that AD spellvamp works just fine provided the value isn't absurd.

I don't know about you, but both of your items seem plenty bruiser-friendly to me.

I know right?

Riven and Renekton would just love all this mana sustain.

Wow, two specific champions that don't use mana wouldn't want an item devoted significantly to mana regen?

There are other bruisers. Many of them use mana. Many of them would love some mana regen, spellvamp, ad, packaged with some health+mana+ArPen/CDR

Reaver the first is an idea alot of (us) have been throwing around since release. It is, in fact, a good idea, I'm glad it saw the light of day again.

I think they tried reaver the first on pbe. Problem is it was to good for the champs that are mana gated early game like poppy, talon, jayce, and pantheon.

I build ER instead of Tear on Ezreal because I hate building Tear and sabotaging my own laning phase. The point of the item isn't supposed to be that you suddenly have tons of mana sustain in the laning phase; the champs that would want it are supposed to be mana gated during laning. What it does is take the clamps off of mana gating during the mid and late game without requiring you to neuter yourself by buying a tear.
