Is Yasuo considered a "skillful" champ?

JustSir··3 votes·1,607 views

I dont see it. People on boards and other places swear Yasuo has alot of skill involved with him, But all i see is a dash, a q, another dash, a q and auto attack and tornado...so i played as yasuo and moped the floor the entire game. I don't see where the "skill," people are saying he needs, comes into play. Yes, if you are a tank you build Ransoin's Omen, but what about your adc? Also, he is one slippery bastard. Without boots and only a shiv, he can out run most skill shots and ganks. yes he get movement speed from shiv, but it shouldn't be enough to where he doesn't need boots until his 3rd item. I am tired of literally seeing him in every game...him and trynd...yes the nerf to Warlords helped but god dammit if there aren't just as many people playing him.

Thanks everyone for your insights! i was just curious if i was the only one seeing or feeling this! your comments have been very helpful, and thanks for the tips on how to help myself and other begin to outplay Yasuo!

He's extremely skillful.

Downvote all you want, but it isn't just "dash, dash, Q, R".

Perhaps in bronze, silver and gold, he's winning on autopilot. To win with him in high elos is something else.

Not down-voting because i honestly want to know where the skill comes into play...If people say he needs it, then it must come from somewhere

Like another person said, it depends on the ELO. I personally am in Silver (you may say my opinion is useless but I know it isn't). When I play Yasuo in my ELO, laning is very easy once I get a lead, either a solo kill or a jg gank. However, I have witnessed, as I watch many pro player streams, that people in higher ELO actually play against him by expecting/predicting his moves.

In Low ELO, I can E around minions against a skillshot mage and poke them then E back out towards my tower and they would stop and complain. Meanwhile in higher ELO, suppose a Yasuo is facing an Ahri, this Ahri would expect him to come forward to poke like that and save his charm for him. This is an example of a counter play which is not so prevalent in low ELO. If I face an Ahri in my ELO, I wait for this Ahri to blow her charm, and then its easy pressure for 5-7 seconds.

Hence, the skill plays an integral role in higher ELO, where there are players who know HOW to play against a Yasuo and, consequently, this said Yasuo needs to use his skills to outplay the fact that his opponent knows his play. It's kind of back and forth. For example, Malzahar is a single dimensional champion, where he has one combo, usually witnessed heavily in lower ELO. On the other hand, you have a Yasuo, who is very versatile, and can choose how to play against his opponents. I'm not bashing on Malzahar, I'm trying to display the subtle difference. Versatility vs Non-versatility(?). Zed, Yasuo, Ahri (With her ult), etc. all very versatile champions, vs Malzahar, Annie, Katarina.

I feel like this should give you some insight as to why people (and me) think Yasuo requires high skill cap (which I want to master badly).

...so long story short...i need to get out of this elo. ..my complaint isnt me playing against a yas, because ive shut yas down many times with fiora and vel'koz (low elo yas tend to not know how to react to vel's q) its my teamates feeding the yas to a point where i cant out play him. I guess my point would be, he is too easy for new players to own lane against other new players with yas. I would argue that a new yasuo player would have a very easy time against any other "new" player in lane, just because of how his kit works.

I have only played Yasuo once or twice (Prepatch of course) And i have fought him more times that i would like this season... And his kit is super easy to use, so there is no skill involved... HOWEVER, if you find yourself fighting a skilled player (Someone who mains yasuo or has experience fighting him) then there is SKILL needed to win, because even tho its easy to use, its also easy to dodge. Hes easy to fight with many champs, but the patch changes made him in some sense "OP" because getting 100 % Crit with only 3000 gold(more or less) is just too dam anoying, especially since a raduins omen takes 600 more gold to get. So when people use squichi champions, they feed him hard, and then its over. All you can do right now in low elo is ban him. Or you could just play like me, take someone who would bully him out of lane so hard hes forced to leave the lane or submit. my sugestions are Malphite or Yorick (need super great mana control with both) They can tank his Q/R, and deny him kills early, maybe even farm, making his late game severyly weakened. Also, dont shoot anything from the front of his Windwall... like really, i have seen so many players waste their whole kit instead of waiting for it to come down or just sidestepping it...

JustSir1 votes

If they gave him energy instead of just cd, i think it would make it a bit more balanced. he is supposed to dash so increasing the cd on his e wouldnt work, and i really like his kit and he is fun to play...he just doesnt seem to have a...for lack of a better word, hindrance, that other ad assassins like zed have with am energy bar

or instead of energy, he uses his win bar as ability fuel....that would be pretty cool. you would have to choose between your wind shield or you abilities

Betoldia Prime1 votes

Obviously not... his combo is Q,Q, Dash, dash Q, R... his combo wont work if you dont stack the wind first brahhh

You see , it all depends on ELO you play him in. In low Elo like Silver, Bronze and maybe even Gold, you dont need alot of skill to stomp with any champion. Most of the time low elo players have fear from Yasuo deeply embodied into them, so its easy to stomp them. What better way to beat someone, but to make him scared to do anything against u, cause he has fear from your champion. But if you play against someone who knows Yasuo thats where you need huge skill, to outplay them. No champion requires skill in low ELO to stomp with. But in higher level of plays they do.

I'd still say that Gangplank and Illaoi are more skill-based than Yasuo is simply because they have an incredible dependency on mechanics that can either be countered by destroying them or them legitimately fucking up. Nothing is funnier than to see people call Plank overpowered when his Barrels got gutted to 30% armor penetration, down from 60%, and they refuse to destroy them in lane which lets me get off the 600 damage crits on them with a chain.

Same could be said about Illaoi and her tentacles although to be fair, the duration on her E is way too fucking long if she makes you a vessel.

I think thats what i have more of a problem with. Yas doesnt really have anything to play with or against other than, dashing in and out and dodging.

Not by anyone with a shred of capability for critical analysis.

If you can use your unlimited mobility to dodge whatever skillshots your windwall hasn't already automatically blocked anyway, you've outplayed them (or so Yasuo players say).

Stars Shaper1 votes

You mean any skillshot that your enemy hasn't automatically shot at your wall because he wants to brake it.

I have never had a problem against yasuo. I'm gold and very few players in gold have mastered yasuo.'I just went against one the other night who had 360+ ranked games as yas, and I still stomped him. I'm seriously lost how so many people on here complain about him? Like sure he has a good skill set but don't be stupid when laning against him and give him a chance to harass you and get away. I think yasuo is an absurdly high skill champion... I wish I was half decent on him cause He looks insanely fun if your decent with him. But he's really not op

JustSir1 votes

ive had really good luck with fiora to. He would dash and try to force me out of lane, and i would dash to him and hit a vital and we would trade and go back to laning....also i can riposte his tornadoes lol

Stars Shaper1 votes

The first time you get to play a champion you end up with really weak opponents. No wonders you roflstomped.

Once you start playing against ppl who know what to do you'll find yourself in harsher situations where you'll have to carefully decide each of your actions and when using WInd Wall is not a waste. Also you won't have ane asy time landing tornados, plus you can't always ultimate on every knockup because ppl might melt you on landing.

And that's why people hate Yasuo

Ekko played that about as perfectly as you could and still died.

Not skillful, per say. But the difference between a low ELO Yasuo and a high ELO Yasuo is just... frightening.

That said, my personal favorite match-up is Pantheon vs Yasuo. My personal build there involves MS quints and Boots of Swiftness. So it's rarely an issue of keeping up with the bastard.

JustSir1 votes

...you should try fiora too...she can trade with yas all day, perry his tornado, and push him out of lane...quickly

KICK OUT AT 21 votes

He used to, back when he wasn't broken from this season's changes. You had to play really tactfully in order to not get your shit kicked in during lane phase. Now any idiot with a keyboard can do decent.

DrCyanide1 votes

Jury's out for me.

I strongly disagree with his wind wall being able to block anything from any direction and spawning on top of Yasuo. I do my part to aim my skillshot such that it will hit him, he doesn't aim his skillshot correctly and he still blocks it? That doesn't sound like skill to me.

I can appreciate that there's some decision making in what minions you dash to so you can get in, attack, and get out, but I wonder how much of that is skill with Yasuo vs experience with targeted dashes in general.

In general I play Ranged AP Mages, so a Melee AD Fighter/Assassin isn't a play style I know very well. I expect my own performance to be lack luster on Yasuo, just as I'd expect it to be lack luster on any melee champion I've picked up, thus my personal experience with him means very little.

Lajneen1 votes

You're Silver 5, you wouldn't know what skill is even if your life depended on it.

JustSir2 votes

i came here and asked a question to get help, not belittlement. Nobody can start playing league and be good, and i have just started really trying to get into the higher tiers of play. If you have nothing constructive to say, please go back to playing cod and camp. Thanks! :)

Yasuo isn't a problem for anyone that has reasonable experience playing him and/or playing against him.

Play Lissandra

Profit

All you do is stand by minions and throw your q whenever your passive is up. If he tries to dash around and be all "good" you just w q with an e and ult to follow up if you decide you can kill him. Lissandra is a pretty good bully to melee mid laners.

Restless Slumber1 votes

He used the require skill. Now anyone can pick him up with half a brain and stomp.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

If your lane opponent is inexperienced against Yasuo or afraid of you, then not really. Beating noobs with Yasuo is really easy. Beating people who really understand Yasuo is much more difficult. Teamfighting against teams smart enough to save things for you is also quite difficult unless you have a great knockup on your team than can get you in. But in general, yes, Yasuo is a very skillful champ in the sense that you can very easily tell the difference between a good and bad one. The good ones will go in 1v3, block off big CC from 2 enemies while killing the other, and then dance around minions in order to kill the other 2. A bad Yasuo will lose 1v1s to champions he really should be beating.
