Almost all adcs scale off attack speed

So won't reducing their base attack speed to a reasonable number make their DPS reasonable after scaling with items into lategame? For example an adc base AS is 0.65, then with 200% bonus attack speed would be 1.95. If they hit 500 per auto average, then their dps would be 975. Now if we just adjust the base AS of most adc down to 0.6, then with 200% bonus would be 1.8. With 500 damage per hit, their new dps would be 900. That is effectively an 8% reduction in AA damage which also reduces the amount they are able to self-sustain allowing more opportunity to counterplay.

Rather than playing around with multiple variables from items and other classes, wouldn't it be easier to adjust a single variable until balance is reached?

This isnt a easy to measure thing. If you nerf base atkspeed of champions their mobility is directly affected. Adcs are already incredibly hard to position on in higher elo. Make them less mobile and they will become worthless. And even if they aren't worthless, nobody will want to play them. Theyll be clunky and boring.

They nerfed caits base atkspeed and her winrate dropped 10-20%

Playing devil's advocate here, that would make adc's feel awful to play in the early game. Lower attack speed = harder farming and less ability to move between autos making them more prone to skill shot harass.

But ad carries are supposed to be a lategame investment that is weak early. Would you give max q Nasus a strong laning? No! Then why should adc's have good earlygames?

There is a difference between a good early game and a bearable early game. If you want adc's to be weaker early I would gut warlords/dorans as it works as sustain to take away their main weakness early to mid game.

Infinite scaling like veiger and nasus are not the same thing as adcs. I agree that not all adcs should have strong early games, Vayne has a weak early, strong mid and very strong late, that's okay, mf has a very strong early and starts falling off, xayah has a decent early and a trash mid, that's okay. Twitch as a average early and just keeps getting better as the game goes on, that's not okay. These things don't justify the stupid amount of damage Vayne and a few others do late game, but an adc should have some phase of weakness, they shouldn't all have trash early games imo

Shit that almost sounds like counterplay for adcs

If ADC's as a whole are the problem, wouldn't the easier solution be just to target their itemization?

Building pure attack speed on adc's is not as efficient in terms of damage for certain adc's that is.

Example: Draven Ezreal Jinx Lucian Sivir Varus Xayah <these champions right here heavily rely on AD believe it or not.
