RIP Thunderlord's Thresh? All hail our new glorious overlord CoTC Thresh?

So Thresh is the next Support on my radar I am trying to get good with. Most guides recommend a healthy dose of AD in runes as well as Thunderlord's. However, I've been trying out CoTC with him recently and it seems to perform better at all stages of the game - with the added benefit of not as often taking a kill from my ADC early-game (which happened A LOT with his E + Thunderlord's).

Any Thresh mains/good players care to chime on on this?

I'm not a Thresh expert by any means but I have played a decent amount of him. CotC is really good on him IF you're in range to proc the extra shielding from multiple champions when you hit a hook or a flay. Thunderlord's is still decent on him in any situation, though.

I have over 850k mastery on him and i use CoC.

Check my Runes and Masteries on lolking if you want. The pages are called - Doomweaver

Thresh is not that strong anymore and many AP Supports dumpster him

He also gets blown up by adc even if you have a lot of armor because they have LW most of the time and thresh has very low base armor and does not scale by levels

My peak division was Diamond 4 and am plat 1 atm.

Thresh is one of my Top 3, so I will offer this for you.

There are two different, highly useful, Support Thresh builds that I've seen. CDR + Thunderlords or straight Tanky + CoTC.

For CDR, you start with Coin, aiming for 45% CDR and Hook Spamming as soon as Threshly possible. For Tanky, you start with Targons, aiming at being a standard Threshy beast.

Both are highly effective.

Thresh main, 1.2 million mastery points here

Do not go AD runes if you are going to be building Ancient Coin. The AD runes are for securing relic procs because it is incredibly hard with Thresh to last hit because Relic is melee only and thresh is considered ranged. I would run flat armor reds, scaling hp yellows, 6 flat CDR glyphs, 3 flat MR glyphs, and for quints, go 2 flat armor and one 2.5% CDR

So in total you have like 13 armor, 216 HP at level 18, 10% CDR, and 4.5 MR I think

You want the flat armor because his base armor is super low due to his passive, and your first item should be Frozen Heart to get the 20% CDR, but it offers no health, so scaling HP runes are really good on him. Obviously, the CDR is self-explanatory, and the MR helps with early trades against poke mages until you can build Locket.

Honestly if you want pure lane dominance and you find yourself in a easy match up, thunder lords is still good, but the thing is about COC, is that it's so easy to proc on thresh, and it makes his initation picks SOOO much safer.

A big problem thresh had in recent metas, is that he would go QQ and near die instantly just because he is, despite popular belief, NOT a tanky champion naturally. So COC really helps solve that weakness, allowing him to be the big initiator his team needs.

CoTC is must on him.

Pre CoTC all keystones sucked on thresh. Thunderlord wasnt even a keystone which sucked the least. There was Grasp but only experieced thresh players knew it was better

You wont proc thundelord more then 5 games per game thats how bad it is on him

Its CoTC>Grasp>Thunderlord And even if you halve the value of CoTC twice even then thresh players will still value it more
