Does anyone else think BotRK suffers due to its lack of focus?

Or put another way, it's an item that's being pulled in two directions. One as a movespeed stealing kiting/chasing item, the other as an OnHit/lifesteal item. If it were split into two items focused on respective tasks (item 1043 item 3134 item 1053 vs item 3044 item 3144) then the result would be two distinctive items that each excel at on particular aspect without the danger of watering the other down.

Or do you guys prefer BotRK as a single all-in-one package?

I like this idea.

Say, what is Blade's purpose anyways ? I thought it was to counter tanks until I noticed it does current %HP damage. Max %HP damage like Bloodrazor is better as an anti-tank item. I really don't know what problem this item is meant to solve. I just build it for the attack speed and lifesteal. It gives you a nice chunk of onhit damage too.

I don't think BOTRK needs to be split in two. It's designed for survivability against melee tanks, juggernauts, and to a lesser extent melee dps champions. Kiting and lifesteal are key and midgame requires a combination of both that cannot be obtained via splitting into two entirely separate items that do this job better because it's not feasible to have both AND decent damage by that time in the game. Lifesteal forces a tradeoff for damage; as does anything that slows.

Some items are designed with midgame in mind, not full build.

But wouldn't spliting it into two items explicitly make BotRK easier to balance around being a mid-game focused kiting item? Phage+Cut would be a solid combination if you're looking for an item to help you kite more effectively without sacrificing nearly as much damage as Mallet demands.

It's just a really awkward combination of stats all pulling in different directions. Is it supposed to be an anti-HP stacking item? An attractive OnHit item? A lifesteal item? A kite/chase item? Splitting it apart and narrowing its focus would help the components pull off their intended purpose more effectively.

But Riot pitched BotRK as THE core OnHit/IAS big ticket item along side Reaver and Infinity Edge back during the Marksmen update. It really isn't pulling its weight compared to the competition. And that's largely because it can't get a straight buff due to the fact that it is already overloaded.

Purchasing two items that specialize in kite and lifesteal respectively means more gold and less damage during midgame. More gold to be able to afford two items and less damage because you can't purchase a third damaging item as well, whereas you could have a kite/lifesteal hybrid AND an actual damaging item and be more effective in teamfights. Not to mention the fact that we already have a dedicated lifesteal item as it is - bloodthirster.

What is the point in survivability as an ADC if you're totally useless until lategame because all your items are designed to do is keep you alive and not actually deal damage?

Maybe some specific examples would help, then.

Blade of the Ruined King Builds from: item 1018 +item 3144 +item 1038 Grants: Crit, AD, Lifesteal, AND UNIQUE active: Steals HP and movespeed And one of the following unique passives: Your critical strikes heal you for (percentage) of your bonus attack damage OR Your critical strikes grant you (percentage) movespeed for two seconds

Kitae's Bloodrazor Builds from: item 1043 +item 3134 item 1053 Grants: Attack speed, AD, Lifesteal, ArPen, AND UNIQUE passive: Your basic attacks deal (percentage) of the target's max HP in physical damage OnHit UNIQUE passive: You heal for (percentage) of the OnHit damage you deal

There we go. One offensive item for lifesteal and kiting, one offensive item for lifesteal and OnHit. Straight forward enough?

bork USED to be the tank killing item. but its been nerfed a few times and doesnt do so well anymore. that and its a pretty inefficient item gold wise

it would be pretty nice to have it split so that it could be rebalanced
