Remove mages from the bottom lane

QuickenedBlade··6 votes·1,490 views

Do something about it.

  • Up the gold cost of components for AP items, total cost unaffected
  • Lower base damages/early scalings
  • Increase early mana costs and give MANA POTS BACK
  • Even a drastic change like making minions give mana back on-kill and upping mana costs across the board, cept for supports

There are 4 VIABLE suggestions I pulled out of my ass while in champion select after having some cancer duo bot play Lux/Ezreal pressing Q R R for kill.

No, and here's why.

Even though its not really a "nerf" to the full item, the changes you suggest to the components of AP items would affect ALL AP champions, wether that's jungle, top, mid, or what have you. That's a lot of players to impact because you don't like mages bot lane.

As for the lower base damages / early scalings, again, this will affect all mages, so unless you want to usher in an era of NO MAGES ANYWHERE because all their early game got taken away from them, then this is a bad idea.

Many mages already have fairly high mana costs, especially sustain mages like Nami and Sona. You want mages out of bot lane but you want to bring mana pots back? This seems silly to me.

What is a support? Not all supports are mages, if I wanted to play Garen support there is nothing stopping me from doing so, changing a major mechanic like this would badly limit the number of champions one could use as support. Keep in mind certain mages like Morgana were made with mid lane in mind, but ended up being used mostly in the support role due to the utility in their kit, that's why we're seeing more veigar and Malzahar support now, among other reasons.

As for your general struggle vs mages in the bot lane, my suggestion is to pick a safe champ / play safe if you feel you will be disadvantaged, and (quite important especially in team play) have your support aim to counter pick their support, this is more important than the adc pick as the support will more or less control the entire lane phase. They have a Lux? Get your sup to go Morgana, or Nami etc.

Blitzcrank counters mage supports across the board. It's not hard. Any tank sup is a good match for a mage. Nautilus Braum Leona

The bottom line is mage supports lack sustain, durability, and peel in exchange for a little damage. You trade them, they can't get back the health, they keep having to back, easy lane.

MrHaZeYo3 votes

What?

Naut, Braum, and Leo have been pushed out of bot lane because of the likes of Malz, Brand, and Zyra.

Tank Supps can't handle the consent range damage, they fall behind, the mage supports get ahead and the damage becomes more and more.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

not exactly...

hard engage supports like blitz, leona and naut still work cuz most of the time the mage support as brand or mal dont have the cc or tankyness to stop their engage...

you legit just go ham and make them piss themselves

MrHaZeYo1 votes

If you play it right, sure.

But Malz and Brand both specialize at destroying melee supps. early game even as Leo or Naut you will prolly be either missing to much HP to go in or behind cause you had to back.

But yes I do agree, if you can get on the mage without being really far behind or almost dead you will prolly kill them.

Blitz is different, as he brings them to him and doesn't go into them. Still you need to hit the hook.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

i play naut and leona into zyra, brand, malz

taric and tahm are counters to mal and picked in pro play to counter him

and when i play naut/leo etc type of support i run a page that has 21 armor , scaling hp for +216 hp lvl 18, 8 flat mr an +9 mr at lvl 18

and with getting relic shield and running 0-12-18 with the regen masteries you can sustain their poke and with the swiftness mastery you reduce the amount of cc they have on you...

Yeh and then top Lane teleports down and beats you ass

CancerBasedGod1 votes

When a mage support wins lane top lane teleports down and beats your ass. Except no, and that's besides the point.

. . . And stop losing to their top lane as sup?

Death by Glamour1 votes

Tank supports have to engage to win Lane thus putting themselves at risk, making teleports plays pretty easy.

Brand vel ect can just sit back and poke which makes teleport gangs fairly difficult to pull off.

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

and when the top laner tps down your jungler and mid roam bot and you have a 4 vs 3 you get 3 kills and 1st turret and drag

if you wanna play the what ifs then sure anything could happen

You cant say Zyra and Karma lack peel and Karma is durable with that huge shield.

Karma is somewhat of a support, and is also weak now.

Blitz does not counter zyra. Its the easiest thing in the world to block his hook. Tank still work but people do not know how to use them. The trick is to not take any damage until youre ready to go ham. Leo counters most mage supports, even malz if your adc can pop his shield, you just have to pick your battles.

Your first sentence was just autistic

your second sentence is also autistic

upping mana costs and adding mana pots is trading gold for mana that they would have already had for free.

This is the issue. If you're telling me to choose a champ that specifically counters that one mage then that is quite the issue since i only own 20 odd champs nor am i faker who has mastered all champs. Actually it is recommended that you rather main 3-4 champs and be good with them than be mediocre with 10 odd champs. Although it is also recommended to play different champs to get to know their weaknesses and strengths so you have a good idea what to do when facing against them.

I agree with literally everything you said but i have to disagree with the notion that you must choose a counter pick to win especially if the counter pick is a champ you have never played with before. Therefore i do not think this advice actually helps someone but rather makes that person even more agitated as he now has to counter pick for different champs just to enjoy the game. This is why everyone wants a balanced game. Lux doesn't have to be countered by morgana although it is an effective strategy. If i go soraka and let he use her mana and get michael's to negate her snare than i can very well win the lane eventhough burst (such as lux's combo) directly counters soraka.

Last but not least, sometimes you pick your champ before the enemy supp so you literally have no way of countering that supp. My advice to OP would be to is if he is a supp main then he needs to be good with 2-3 supp that work well with different adc's. Thus you can compliment your adc whenever possible or you can play safe or aggressive depending on the matchup if you have mained that champ to the point that you can effectively use it for different purposes.

Agreed, counter picking is not and should not be the only solution, it was simply a suggestion for OP to try. Ideally you would (as you said) learn a handful of champions very well, so that even if you are at a disadvantage you know how to play that lane matchup.

Mage supports aren't even good, they're just easy.

Calec2 votes

actually they are extremely stong this season because they balance out a team that would otherwise be AD based. With AD mids becoming more common and most junglers, top, and adc bots being AD, mage supports balance the team so the enemy team cant just stack armor for a win

CancerBasedGod1 votes

They are extremely strong because people misplay and let them win when they shouldn't.

Calec2 votes

You being one of them I guess

CancerBasedGod1 votes

I don't even understand how you could think that make sense. I don't think they're op, so I must be losing to them. Think before you talk shit, dumbass.

they have cc and damage, what else do you need?

CancerBasedGod2 votes

Yes because the only things in this game are CC and damage. Hp? Armor? doesn't exist. Sustain, not a thing. Also a lux Q is the same as a blitz Q because it's CC. . . Except no at every point.

do do doo im fucking lux if i land q they are dead automatically

Wasn't aware Blitz also had an ult that does 900 damage from across the map.

CancerBasedGod1 votes

He has one that deals large damage, silences, and is on a 20 second CD. . .

Mig891 votes

Blitz is a feast or famine champ and so is lux. In my experience, Lux's E is worse as a support to deal with than her q. The Q is easy to dodge. the E is free poke

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

you know the best way to stop a mage bottom? buy mana items and magic resist items.item 3504 item 3174 item 3105 item 3060 item 3102 item 3028 item 3114 item 3026 item 3109 item 3190 item 3222 item 3107 item 3512 item 3050 item 3301 item 3302 item 3303

they're cheaper and they negate the point of of your opponent.

Nerfing Mid Lane Mages who go support won't help, something else will raise up and become the problem.

I wouldn't mid seeing Malz and Brand changed in some way to get them back Mid but chances are those changes will destroy them for the next two years.

Zyra as mentioned during the Mid season Mage update last year was being calibrated for bot lane, although they wouldn't mind if she showed up mid as well.

As a support main, here's my two cents,

While annoying, mage supports have practical uses.

Just like CC tanks have practical uses.

Worst solutions ever. You didn't give a shit of how these changes impact outside the Support role.

name a solution to any problem with any role without affecting other roles.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

#In your case:

Up the gold cost of components for AP items, total cost unaffected

Also affected mid lane builds for other mages.

Lower base damages/early scalings

Also unintendedly nerfed their mid lane power.

Increase early mana costs and give MANA POTS BACK

Also affects mid laners, plus there's already a lot of balancing between the mana bar/regen & the mana being inserted into the items. Making mana pot back again will cause a serious lane sustain issue.

Even a drastic change like making minions give mana back on-kill and upping mana costs across the board, cept for supports

So fucked up, please take a moment & think about it.

#In my case?

Reverting Malzahar's rework is the best solution for me. There's nothing healthy about his new gameplay style. Other support mages like Lux & Morgana isn't really a big issue.

QuickenedBlade1 votes

{quoted}

Also unintendedly nerfed their mid lane power.

When was the last time Brand/Malz/Karma/Zyra/(other cancer mages) played mid? Like 2 years ago. Nobody fucking plays them mid. EVEN AT THAT they don't NEED early game retard scaling when their late game is already good. This would make games longer as a biproduct, which is what people have been asking for. Removes cancer from bot lane, makes game length longer, ++ with no -.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

No, YOU think these champions weren't played mid at all. There are still a percentage of people who still plays them as Mid laners. And not just the ones you mentioned, Liss/Ori/Ap Ez/Swain/Zilean are also affected by the changes despite the fact that they aren't Bot lane material. Of course, only the time when LCS plays Brand, Malz or w/e champions at mid lane, everyone is bound to become a sheep & copycats it anyway.

Do be reminded that you made these changes not because it's for the balance for league, it's just that you got butthurt for being defeated by them & proposed some ridiculous instant changes.

While most of these solutions are crap, the Mana Pots one may be decent.
