Who is the all-around strongest assassin at the moment, and why is it Talon?

I would like your thoughts on this matter. What, in your opinion, makes him so strong in the current patch? Is it the state of other assassins at the moment? Or is it the current meta/Items? I'm trying to pinpoint all the variables leading up to his current state.

Is this a rhetorical question? lol

Definitely Talon. The way his kit works and just how hard he hits + his CC makes him very reliable in team fights and 1 v 1s. Plus he has a bleed if i'm not mistaken. He's really everything you'd want in an assassin.

I'd also like to add that Zed is good but nowhere near as reliable in teamfights as Talon.

But why now? He wasn't this strong until recently it would seem.

Tbh he's been effective for quite some time now, he just isn't picked very much at all elos for some reason. Check his win rate and pick rate. All around his pick rate is remarkably low.

Probably either

  1. People don't find him "fun" to play.

  2. People still think he's weak and "zed is op"

It's really sad that people still hold those generalizations. There's many champions in the game for a reason haha

"it would seem" Talon, even after getting his silence removed has kept an extremely high winrate for assassins. Its for many reasons but ill name a few..

  1. He's simple, being simple means less room for error.
  2. Lots of burst, similar to rengar. He provides a lot of burst up front.
  3. Your team knows what you are doing, Hes not like Zed who can bait his team into unfavorable positions while trying to out-play with fansy moves.
  4. Short CDs, his ult is on a really short CD which means his roaming and killing potential is extremely high.
  5. Hes underrated, People are so focused on other popular assassins that out play them with mobility that Talon can stay under the radar.

I'm sure there are more reasons, but these are the ones that stand out the most to me.

I think reason 1. could be one of the keys to his strength as a champion. Most of the champions that are over-performing at higher elo's seem to be the simpler ones. Such as Malphite Rammus Soraka TahmKench bu mostly as a case of cause-and-effect. They are not inherently strong. It's the variables changing around them that shift their power. Most of the time I find them highly annoying.

Being simple as an assassin is huge.. I mean, think about how low the winrates are on champions like Lee Sin, Yasuo, and Nidalee for example.. All are strong and SUPER fun champions to play, but they are by no means "simple"

He is not popular because he has low mobility and a mediocre laning phase, while Zed has the 2nd highest mobility in the game next to LeBlanc and an amazing laning phase.

However he has the numbers to carry games and other assassins except Rengar and Zed just don't have the same numbers.

Irelia is the best for me. The only champion aside from Vi that can build tanky and still burst you to nothing in a couple seconds.

Zed is stronger if you understand his mechanics. Talon only seems strong because he's less popular so people have less experience playing against him.

Stronger in what way?

Stronger in what way?

He has more mobility, his kit is more flexible, his abilities are safer to use and outrange talon's. He has the ability to dodge targeted or aoe damage/cc with his ult. His damage is also not strictly ad, especially if he builds botrk so he benefits more from the dual pen mastery and is harder to itemize against. His damage is slower but not significantly, because thunderlords makes it much easier for him to one-shot squishies without even popping ult, which means he's less reliant on his ultimate cooldown. He also has one of the strongest laning phases in the game whereas talon's is one of the weakest. Its not like this is news to anyone, he received numerous buffs in response to lw and q nerf, that put him over the top in the hands of a skilled player. Talon's burst may be stronger raw numbers wise (honestly not really sure if that's true or not), but its irrelevant because overkill is sometimes a bad thing. Talon is sacrificing utility for more damage that just isn't necessary with thunderlords being so strong atm.

Doesn't a targeted point and click stun work on just about everyone?

Yes, but if Talon is ulting he's invisible. Therefore, you'll need the pink to give the vision. After that, the bopping may commence.

Talon is a great champion in his own right, he has his glaring weaknesses and strengths. He can burst you down without a second thought. But on the other side of that coin he is made of paper and has to ult to escape if he gets converged on. He can poke you for alot of you get in his range, but at the same time his rake is mana hungry in his already shallow mana pool.
