@Riot How to fix Supports so they're played for fun

I know you guys are copying stuff from Heroes of the Storm, and now Dota 2. The Hextech crafting is something straight from Dota 2. So take another leaf out of Heroes of the Storm's book, and buff your supports to be naturally tanky or give them high base values so they have good early game power and decent mid to late. A perfect example of a tanky support is Uther, go look at him.

The reason people dislike playing support in LoL is they don't feel impact-ful. Support feels like neutered class, so when you grab a non support champion like Brand, he wipes the floor with them because he is meant to do a lot of damage. "But you have to protect the ADC!", that is not the point. People would rather have support not exist but because of the meta, it is still around because ADCs apparently need them. Unless the support is a CC bot like Thresh Leona Blitzcrank Nautilus, it feels like you're throwing feathers at your enemy, and in a 1v1 scenario you auto lose if you're playing a hardline support.

One option would be to buff gold income, so players could roll non-supports and not be crippled in the gold department because the income items would give as much as if you where last hitting the whole time. Supposedly this would unbalance them, but that indicates that supports need to be reworked, if giving them more gold would make them op.

Another option is like what I said at the start, they should buff base damage and stats so supports are some of the toughest early game champions, but fall off later on; Allowing them to establish a strong foothold in lane, and on the map. "they would be op!", again we'd lower scaling so they'd fall off but the idea is they are very scary early on so they pretty much are early game "hyper-carrys".

Where is my credibility? I play support all the time, and I'm pretty good at it. I only picked up support because I got tired of boozos who try support end up getting the enemy bot lane fed and ruining the game for everyone else. However, I hate having to support all the time! I'd like to mid, or top sometimes, but no everytime I do, our support reveals themselves to be a "baddie" and the enemy bot gets fed or the enemy gets fed off bot, and the game is over 90% of the time. There needs to be a change.

I horribly disagree. Playing a specific role and enjoying it is all subjective. I love the way supporting is right now. I feel like I make a large contribution through Sightstone and spoopy ghosts.

Bard/Sona/Nami have exceptional early game, but against CC chains they suck.

CC lanes lose to poke comps ( think Lulu in this case )

Sustain loses to burst supports ( Bard's Meep+AA+ Thunderlords = pretty big damage early game, forcing mana and sometimes health to restore " balance " to the lane.

As for " buff gold income, " It wouldn't work. Supports are designed to be behind in gold and exp. Mostly because you're feeding it into the ADC/other lanes. If they were buffed to earn JUST AS MUCH gold as ADCs etc, then there wouldn't be a support. It'd just be " anything with a CC is a support " bottom lane, which makes players like me, who specifically main support, annoyed.

Nothing annoys me when I'm playing Bard than a " lolPanthsupport cause CC lol "

or the infamous " lol im lux support cause she has cc and a shield without sightstone lol "

More like "lolPanthsupport because bored of the other champs and one time I did it, Panth was OP"

Wait till you see me Heimer in your game. That'll piss you off lol.

I think your comments just show a complete lack of understanding of the support role. Supports are not intended to go toe to toe with a mid laner (unless you're doing extremely well as a Zyra/Brand/VK support and their mid laner is behind on farm). What supports are designed to do are start engagements, peel enemies off your carries, catch squishies with stuns/skillshots. They do this very very well.

Supporting is fun though, people are just toxic lol

I think more people would like support if Riot offered some type of comprehensive ADC training course. Other than that, I personally have little issue with support except that it gets boring. But I am told and am learning that this is true for any role in the game after a while.

Off-meta supports are fun. Try Heimer out and watch everyone get mad.

I wrote a post about this a few weeks ago which if you want you can read here

Basically your post just confirms what the real problem is. It has nothing to do with the influence of supports. Any legitimate player worth their salt knows just how important and influential supports are in games. I am not going to type out my post again. You are welcome to go read it.

As a support main, supporting is fun as shit, it doesn't need any changes, the fact that you are offering changes would probably mean you don't know how to support, or you are just not good enough to support.

I'm bored of supporting all the time! I want to blow shit up for a change! Everytime I do, bot feeds someone and it is over in 10 minutes :(

Go Heimer mid. I just did. First official non-support lane and champ I play after a year of playing this game, and I enjoy it. Take him as supp for even more fun!

Actually, that's not true. I like to Teemo support and top as well. That makes for some interesting conversation in-game.

Main supp. Totally disagree. Dunno how to argue with you either. I think just the way you see and play supp is wrong, or not necessarily wrong, but at least different from mine? Or maybe because you are comparing to other games. I haven't played those games so idk. For me supp is fine rn. They should rework Taric maybe. And give 4 wards in SS.

I believe a Taric rework is actually on the table.

Yep, here it is

Actually, Taric rework is RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. He was designed to be released after the next champion after Jihn ( A.Sol ) and before the next champion releases.

SO SOON! =D

I understand your idea .. but how do you prevent abuse ... like ...

  1. put an support char to top/mid and totally distroy him so he does never reach end game (stat based push)
  2. prevent someone from mit/top also gets the gold bonus and prety much results in the sitation we allready have (gold based push)

I love support...I also main Poppy Brand support, cause they are actually fun to play and you serve a purpose after the fact.

If all of you love supporting, how come I never get matched with you when I go Mid or Top! #WTFRIOT

A lot of people love supporting. But I, too, notice that when I am not in the bot lane, bot lane gets lost almost always first (as opposed to usually last when I am supporting). Loving a role doesn't make one decent at it.

I realize this is a necro thread but i just posted a video to youtube describing exactly whats wrong with the role and how they can fix it. link is https://youtu.be/6-1SNXbrfog looking to gain momentum and get riots attention because i would love to play support champs but its just not a level playing field when you have to buy crap items and dont get any gold at all.
