Malzahar Mains TRY THIS!

So I'm on a crusade to get malz his kill pressure/viability back as a ap carry, and have found these two options. I've tried and tested the first one, and will be trying the second one tonight (though in practice test is seems to work!)

The items for both are: Roa Rylais Liandries Serephs Deathcap/Voidstaff for damage or Warmogs if you want the cheese

**First option: Tanky malz! ** So this is weird but hear me out. The idea behind this was you farm a lot on malz, and we've all left our voidlings to farm while we ran away and still got xp and gold, so I thought "i wonder if it works with overgrowth." Answer: Yes it does! With this build I managed 4.2k hp, 450ap (Before DC) in 34 minutes. I was support.

**Inspiration ** Unsealed spellbook Magical footwear Minion Dematerializer Approach Velocity (For those that don't know this works with Rylais making it even easier to refresh Malefic Visions!)

**Resolve ** Font of Life (Also Works with Rylais)/Chrystalis Overgrowth

**Second Option: Kill Pressure Malz! ** Yes there is a way to have kill pressure again!!! Gasp! Again it's weird but going by the numbers should work and also gives the benefit of a pretty decent healthpool! In practice at level 6 with a blasting wand and dorans ring I did 1.1k damage to the target dummy at level 6 with my ult combo (e, w, r) by the time my ult had ended (so the voidling damage after this point, or any q to finish could give higher results). In theory the hp pool shouldn't really be much different from the 1st option, just watch for when your jg is doing raptors and stand the other side of the wall :P.

**Domination ** Electrocute Anything you fancy Eyeball Collection (For the test it was still at 0) or anything else Doesn't Really matter

**Resolve ** Font of Life (Still Works with Rylais)/Chrystalis Overgrowth

As I said I'm going to try the second one tonight, but for once electrocute being difficult to proc on him makes it more likely to be up when your ult is. Try them out and let me know your experience!!!

OK so I've tried the second one and it works. I also tried sorcery and inspiration secondry and found reasonable success with both. Has anyone else tried it out?

CDR is too essential for Malzahar for this build to consistently perform well.

He can perform well in lane 1v1 with just about any build, but in order to carry lacking teammates you have to ramp up your DPS as quickly as possible. Mainly because Malzahar takes FOREVER to scale in bad OR even match ups. To deal as much damage as possible, you need raw AP and CDR as quickly as possible.

Even if you can count on your team to do well every time, you still need CDR. However, you can relax with the raw AP and build some of the items that you are suggesting. Or even an Abyssal Mask/Banshee's Veil. 95% of the time in solo, you will want Lost Chapter as a first item because it gives you everything you DESPERATELY need. 80% of the time it is best to just go ahead and rush into Luden's for the extra CDR while the extra wave clear is just a small bonus. You can occasionally build other items after Lost Chapter though.

With Luden's, Transcendence rune, and CDR boots, you will have 40% CDR and you can build whatever you feel like afterward.

I agree but with serephs and lucy boots you have 30% anyway, though I am partial to transcendence I find my jungler is often willing to give their blue buff to me anyway. Also note than CDR is a massive thing on malz for having the ult up as much as possible, and q being able to refresh e continuously. 10% gives you the latter anyway, and an e, w, q still does some nice burst with electrocute

The build gives early damage/kill pressure anyway while going into roa, then lucy boots and a tear, then rylais. Most people will have two items about the same mine as me whereas I also have boots and a tear completed so seems to give a nice start and again it maintains the kill pressure. Plus going into liandry's third continues to give that kill pressure while improving your tankiness yet again. I tend to find that I don't really miss the CDR until this point, where I grab a lost chapter and finish my now fully stacked archmages for a powerspike that it wouldn't give had I built it earlier.

Again I have found I didn't massively miss the CDR when compare to the kill pressure and scaling of roa. Both roa and rylais are very cheep and give good stats. Yes CDR is important on malz (I'd laugh at anyone who said otherwise) but having these two items finished so quickly really give a massive AP boost while giving you nice utility and tankiness.

I avoid ludens on malz tbh. Serephs is such a better item for him, both for the sheer amount of AP he can gain from it (150ap in this build) and the mana sustain which also works alongside his malefic visions ping.

I went for full cdr as fast as possible on malz many times but that is far more the attitude of the midlane malz support that I'm trying to escape from. Even before the ap item reworks some people built lost chapter, then boots, the rylais, then liandry's then finished morrelos. It was never done as a first item for the cdr (though that was a nice addition), it was for the mana sustain which I've found I can get through catalyst/roa and a tear.

Note the main part of the build is going into electrocute for kill pressure. I've played around with my secondary's and domination runes separately, it's the electrocute proc that makes the whole thing work.

Unless Riot improves Malz's scaling ratio's it does not matter. Too many champs outscale him.

Tbh I don't think it's the ratios that are the problem, it's his kit which requires a rework/revert, the purpose of this thread is to give malz mains a couple of builds that I've found to be his strongest in the current status quo.

So I've tried the electrocute build with transcendence/gathering storm secondary, with lost chapter rush into lucy boots, liandry's, rylais and ludens/serephs and it works just as well. Your health-pool is no longer stupidly big, but it you want to be the main carry for your team this will definitely give you the chance. Just remember lost chapter rush is going to be difficult after the next patch as it is going up to 1400 gold.
