First Impressions of Ekko
I realize there will probably be a LOT of these over the next couple of days/week but I thought I would get one started of my own. I will put a TL:DR
at the bottom but please, don't just read that and say I am just complaining about a brand new champion, I do want to discuss my thoughts and am not trying to run around complaining about champion balance (yet).
Well to start off, I gotta say I love the champion. I don't know the lore yet, but personality wise he seems as multidimensional as Braum is.
I also REALLY like his kit overall, its unique and gives a lot of flexibility on both sides of play. In addition, it seems he will have many viable build paths, making him an interesting pick.
I do however, have a couple of concerns. And no, I haven't played him yet, and yes, it takes time to adapt to to a new champion, but the theory crafting and comments ahead are purely because I wish to discuss my thoughts with other people. I fully recognize that he is only on the PBE and he could be changed before going live.
That being said, I don't usually see balance changes on a champion's release (they usually let the champion go for a little while before they do anything). While I don't necessarily have a problem with Riot's method, I would like to explain what I would see as imbalances. Again, I realize I'm in a sort of cart before the horse situation here, and want to stress that fact that I want to discuss my initial impressions. My impressions/ concerns are all linked:
First, his base stats seem a tad high for a champion that is suppose to be a squishy assassin.
This thought rolls right into my second concern about him: ALL of his ratios seem incredibly high.
A .7 ratio on a passive is insanely high, and it gets applied via abilities and auto attacks, not to mention applies CC.
His Q I actually don't have a problem with; it gives ample time to avoid and counterplay (If he could pull it back whenever, this might be a different story).
His W shield has very high base health and a VERY high ratio. However, because of the setup required for the shield, I think it is justified. His passive W, on the other hand, I am a little apprehensive about. At 200 AP this becomes approximately 10% missing health below 30%. That damage is starting to scale up pretty aggressively; at 500 AP this is 18% missing health every auto attack. To put this into perspective, fizz can deal 8% missing health as a max. Kha'zix during his claim to fame was doing at most 12% missing health, and Jinx ultimate does at most 35% missing health. I realize im pulling these things out of their respective kits (something I usually abhor), and I didn't forget that this only triggers for Ekko on targets below 30%, but putting this kind of damage on an auto attack cool down does have me a bit worried.
I actually have zero concerns about his E (I know, you're shocked, aren't you?)
There are two problems I have with his ultimate. First, I have to question why an ability with such great utility also has such great damage. 500 +130% AP is a LOT. In addition to the damage it does, it can be used to return to lane, or, more importantly in my opinion, execute successful tower dives (at the very least, tower drops aggro from Ekko). It also allows for powerful jukes and sustain. Why does it also get to be one of the highest damaging AOE ultimates as well? To me it feels like it does too much. And then, in addition to doing too much, the ability doesn't have a mana cost. I, for the life of me, can't give a reason why this is the case.
The ultimate is the only one I will actually propose a fix for, because it stands out to me as way too over the top: Take the damage off the ability completely and leave the ability as is. By doing this, I think you have an ability that defines Ekko much better and actually looks and feels like the champion from the video. Heck, I would even say lower the amount healed and let him use it more often! (Okay, if they did this, they might wanna get rid of the blink back to tower after buying bit).
The reason I have these concerns is because I see the potential for a very threatening bruiser build, especially if the abyssal scepter changes go through. Because of his incredibly high ratios, I don't really see a need to build this guy glass cannon; build tanky CDR and abuse his mobility and plethora of CC.
An example build would be ROA, Boots (idc what kind), Nashor's, Abyssal (I mean the one on PBE, not the live one), Sunfire, Essence Reaver. He is now sitting on 250+450+650= 1350 bonus health, at least 30% CDR, has some sustain (both mana and health) and has tankiness. Yes, he only has 170 AP with a build like this; and you could certainly switch something out, but I hope my point is clear; I think a build like this would be utterly devestating, but in a way that is taking completely advantage of very high ratios.
Anyways, these are the majority of my concerns. I look forward to other people's insight.
TL:DR Ekko's base stats and ratios seem very high which could lead to abuse with bruiser builds. His ultimate seems like it does far too much at too little a cost.

Ekko would sit on 250 AP. This would make his burst rotation equal to 1176 +750 + 11% missing health or 1926+11% missing health (don't forget that the 11% missing health occurs every auto attack, which would really make his burst even higher). This damage doesn't account for nashor's tooth ratio/damage, nor does it count the abyssal or sunfire cape damage. Bottom line; with a tanky build, Ekko is capable of 100-0 on a squishy. He can function as an assassin with a bruiser build, and then have CC up to provide utility as well.
